Quantcast

wrigley field from right bleachersTonight’s game is a national Fox game, which is cool if you’re in the right region for it. If you’re not, even MLB.tv blacks you out from this one (hooray Pirates v. Reds for me! … though if the Cubs keep winning, then a Pirates/Reds match-up actually would be of considerable interest to me).

Speaking of the Cubs winning, they’re going for number six in a row this evening. That would be sweet, and they’ve got the right guy – Jeff Samardzija – on the mound to pull it off.

  • X the Cubs Fan

My almost completely outrageous prediction: SHARK will have a no-hitter while striking out 13.

    • X the Cubs Fan

I was going to add a homerun by SHARK but I think that’s stretching it

      • MaxM1908

Nah, he’ll just have an RBI double.

  • MaxM1908

MLB.tv doesn’t black it out if you’re viewing from the UK, does it? Tonight was actually a night I could sit at home with a beer at midnight and watch my Cubbies. I’ll be really disappointed if that doesn’t work out.

    • John O’Flynn

      No blockout in UK.

  • Joel McKinnon

En route to this game right now! Hoping for a Cubbies victory!

    • Njriv

Hey Joel, any chance you are related to Jeremy McKinnon? The lead singer of A Day to Remember?

  • Oswego Chris

Don’t get too excited about today’s game…it’s pouring here on planet Kamino again…

    • fromthemitten

It’s rained every day since memorial day here on my side of the lake… if I wanted to deal with this BS I’d move to florida

    • Dynastyin2017

Okay Chris. It just got to Wrigley. Is it still raining by you? We can time the delay!

      • Oswego Chris

        Still raining…still raining…

        Still raining…

    • DrReiCow

+1 for the Star Wars reference. :)

      Moo.

      • N8theGr8

Way to go, Dr. R. Cow. Raised your DAR (Droids Above Replacement) acknowledging StarWars ref., BAPIP (Bovine Appreciation Pinkfloyd In Play) with Atom Heart Mother cover, and MEP (Moos Ending Posts) with that one. Keep it up you might make it to the show! Can somebody crunch those numbers for me, please?

  • Headscratchin

They’re showing the Red Sux and the Yankees on our local Fox affiliate. Guess I’ll have to listen to it on MLB. Bums….

    • Dynastyin2017

I’m thinking just because of the rain delay, right?

  • Blank

It’s okay, FOX, no one outside Chicago didn’t want to watch the game.

  • Beardface

    Looks like maybe two tomorrow?

  • demz

if the game is delayed considerably, will the blackout get lifted?

  • Beardface

    Go Blackhawks!

  • Headscratchin

I don’t know – I live in the Dallas area and that’s what they are showing here.

  • Headscratchin

That was in reply to your questions Dynastyin2017. Too much of a rookie on here to know how to make it post as a reply to a specific comment and not just a new post!

    • Dynastyin2017

First, the reply button is on the line under your name, on the right side. Second, Fox is showing the Yanks/Sox as ‘Bonus Coverage’ during the rain delay in the Chicago market, not sure what they scheduled to show in Dallas. Third, welcome rookie. Stick around, it gets quite entertaining around here.

      • Headscratchin

        DOH!

Red Sux And Yankees were scheduled here all along since this is Rangers country.

  • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

The pictures from Wrigley right now look very dark and scary.

  • Josh

In Daytona….Baez 3-3, 2 2B, HR, 6 RBIs…..and better, no Ks, no errors (so far)

    • Dynastyin2017

Sorry Josh, I guess we commented at the same time.

    • Dynastyin2017

But someone will complain about no walks…..

  • Dynastyin2017

While we are waiting. Baez is 3 for 3, 2 doubles, 1 home run, with 6 ribbies. All in three innings.

  • TampaCubsPhan35

At the Daytona Cubs game, Baez is a beast 3-3, 2 doubles and 3 run homer, may have just tweaked a knee covering grounder up the middle, Daytona 12-1 in the 4th

  • Dustin S

Radar looks like maybe one small cell still incoming soon and then the weather should clear up there.

Funny that so many tracking Daytona. I doubt there is another mlb team with as much fan attention to their A ball team, although I’m not sure if that’s a good sign or a bad sign…

    • Josh

Well when your organizational numbers 2 & 3’happen to be on the same team…..

      • Josh

        Or 1 and 2, or 1 and 3….depending on who you ask……

      • Dustin S

Oh I know, there are days I wish KC and Daytona had video. I’m really looking forward to some of these guys moving up to the Smokies since they’ll be on milb.tv then.

    • Dynastyin2017

Dustin, don’t you think the Twins fans are following their A level teams? Sano and Buxton are way more exciting than anything going on in Minnesota.

And it’s both a good AND bad sign….

      • nkniacc13

I know that Twins fans are very interested in their A teams. Molitor is going to Kernals games next weekend ( Im going Sat)

      • Dustin S

I don’t think I said other fans don’t follow their A teams. It looks like the point I was trying to make was missed.

    • Kyle

Nah, there’s a hardcore prospect-loving contingent of every fan base. It gets especially intense when the team hasn’t won in awhile.

  • Cjmayne

Baez with another hit and Soler with a two run shot. Daytona up 14-1 in fifth

  • mudge
  • nkniacc13

who is the one Cubs minor leaguer that you can see be included in a July deadline deal?

    • Kyle

      Brett Jackson

    • Rich H

If Vitters is healthy he could be gone as well. Just doesn’t seem to be in the plans for this team.

    • fromthemitten

      Casey Coleman

    • baldtaxguy

      Bogusevic

      • Timothy Scarbrough

        He doesn’t really count.

      • another JP

I think Bogie stays- will be a candidate for a call-up if any OF are dealt from the ML squad.

    • hansman1982

Baez…if the Cubs think they can get a super stud for him

      • YourResidentJag

I wonder what the Rangers think of Castro in the OF? Profar to us? Yep, it’s fantasy trade time again.

        • turn two

Really? Profar for outfield Castro? That would make him bad defensively and a poor hitting outfielder for one of the best prospects on the game?

          • YourResidentJag

So, you’re already thinking he’s a poor hitting player in general. At 23. Interesting.

            • turn two

Castros offensive potential compared to profar…yeah, you are just wrong there son..

              • YourResidentJag

Actually, I think you underrate Castro’s abilities. But I’ll agree he probably wouldn’t get you Profar alone.

        • Kyle

Not even the slightest chance. Just because we wasted Castro’s sweet pre-arb years doesn’t mean some team will give us a do-over.

  • Rich H

I know quite a few Cards fans that pay more attention to their minors at all levels than most Cubs fans (not necessarily the ones here).

I think it is becoming an organic thing for most of us. As teams started charging more and more for a lesser product on the field a lot of us started paying attention to the minors and giving our money there. So now the extension of that is we get to see all these kids that are the future becoming the stars that their talent says is a possibility.

  • baldtaxguy

    8:35pm first pitch

  • Cjmayne

    Baez another hit

    • another JP

5 for 5 with 11 total bases off a decent pitcher. woah

  • Die hard

Trouble With The Curve exposed the weaknesses of computer scouting — wonder if FO saw movie with draft upcoming

    • Timothy Scarbrough

Is it even based on a true story?

      • Die hard

A compilation of several I believe to show that scouts still needed- the new generation still can learn from old timers — Ian Stewart is an example

        • Timothy Scarbrough

That was even really tangential to the question….

      • hansman1982

Well, if you take 3 examples from the last 97 years of minor league scouting…then yes…

        • Die hard

Would be curious how often FO overrules scouts based on saber metrics

  • Cjmayne

Baez’s night a wash, just struckout

  • another JP

Shark seems to be throwing a lot of off speed pitches and is laboring– yesterday Garza threw almost all fastballs and was able to cruise through the Dback lineup. I’m wondering why the change in approach…

  • JOE

Is this game no longer being broadcast on Fox after the delay?

  • Kubphan82

How close do the Cubs get to .500? Are they closest now than they’ll be all season? Do they get within 3, get there, over? Being 13 games out right now in the division and 7 back in early wild-card standings, doesn’t bode well, even if they get to .500, they may still have to sell off.

Just wondering if anyone thinks we’ll get close to .500 before a sell-off… I say we get it and still have to sell… For the rest of the month of June including today the Cubs need to go 17-10 to get to .500… Against Dbacks/Angels/Pirates/Reds/Cards/Mets/Stros/Brewers/Mariners.

    A mixed bag of talent…

    • Kyle

Don’t forget the deadline isn’t until end of July.

If I had to guess? Cubs get closer to .500 but not quite there before the fire sale.

      • hansman1982

I’m gonna say they are there on July 1 and then the entire fanbase laments them selling off at the deadline…

        • Kyle

If they firesale a winning team, it’s going to make my wrath for the Ian Stewart debacle seem like a love letter.

          • hansman1982

I was waiting for that. I never did mention what happened in July. For me, it all depends where they sit GB in the division.

Then again, after the coup they have pulled this year with platoons, I am sure they know 100X more info about where the Reds, Cards, Pirates are at and how they project based on their future opponents. If we are .500 but 7+ games back from the division and they fire sale…so be it.

            • Kyle

Even if they are 10 games back and one game over, I’ll be annoyed at a firesale.

I can’t make a coherent case for it from a game theory point of view, but it just feels like it sends completely the wrong message to your organization.

              • hansman1982

If they are 1 game over but 10 back and behind 3 other teams, that puts us at a historic comeback away from the playoffs. Firesale away…I’m guessing the org will buy in…

                • Kyle

Just need to root for the Pirates to fall apart to make it moot. Not a strong bet, because they look way more legit than recent years, but still can hope.

If the Cubs can hold on to the win tonight, then they aren’t more than four back of anyone besides the Pirates/Reds in the WC standings.

                  • hansman1982

Part of it may hinge on them being able to get someone who will be a key piece for a few years. Stanton comes to mind.

                    • Kyle

It’d be cool if they do some faux-contending with their heads above .500, and it gives them an excuse to be “buyers” on someone awesome and long-term.

              • YourResidentJag

Problem is….is it really a firesale? Other teams (like the Jays and Royals) may have something to say about the ultimate value of Garza with firesales of their own. And if the Cubs replace Schierholtz with Sweeney in a RF platoon is their really a negative effect?

Think it will be more of a straight up mediocre season, which could be worse.

          • Rcleven

Still think the fir sale is necessary. Good teams have to be built to win 60% of their games. The way they are built right now they are built to win 51-53%. I’ll take loosing this season to build 16-18 more wins a season for the next five to seven seasons.

        • turn two

If every season is sacred yet you want to look to future, if e are at .500 on July 1st, i think you resign Garza and keep the starting staff, but sell offdejesus soriano, etc. You give yourself a chance by keeping your strength, but sell what you can forthe future.

          • hansman1982

If they can get a haul for Garza, do it…please. Especially if it gets us Smyly.

            • Bill

I’ll be very unhappy if they do a firesale, but trading Garza for a haul or a Smyley, I’ll all for making that type of trade.

            • turn two

You are all being unrealistic, a few months of Garza isn’t getting anyone a haul. You keep this staff and begin to breed confidence in this team. Obviously if you’re getting a haul for over of these pitchers or guaranteeing, what did someone on here just say-10-15 more wins a year for seven years, yeah obviously you do that. But lets think logically, your not taking in a ton for any one guy on this team, you can sell them all for some minor league depth and lottery tickets. I say if you have a chance, keep the staff together and giver the kids a chance to experience done success

            • YourResidentJag

Don’t think Smyly’s going anywhere. I think Tigers are content for the season with Porcello, too. Garza could be headed to SF or Anaheim, though.

              • Rcleven

Don’t count Texas out just yet. Olt sitting at AAA still.

                • YourResidentJag

Depends on how strongly they feel about their internal SP options, like Grimm and Tepesch. And if Harrison comes back strong this season. But yeah, Texas is still out there and possibly looking for SP. Thing that scares me though is that Olt is slumping badly at AAA, at least when I last looked, that is…

                • Dynastyin2017

Is Olt playing yet? Don’t think anyone is going to be knocking down the door for Olt at this point.

  • UCF

Question to anyone….(maybe I should post this in a message board…):

Any of you use Mlb.tv on Roku? Have you lost the option to listen to the radio version on Roku this year, or is just my Roku with the issue?

  • Mark S

Goldy looks absolutely fooled by Shark. Well done.

  • arta

Hoyer on game TV today said if they r in the hunt, they will not sell.
