Short Series Preview: Cubs v. Angels, June 4 – June 5, 2013

california angels logoHistorically, when the Cubs have had a two-game series, I do a (theoretically humorously) abbreviated version of the Series Preview. It’s a long trip out West for the Cubs to play just two games against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California, USA, Earth, Milky Way, but at least they got an off-day on either side of it.

We’re Going Streaking

The Cubs have lost two in a row after winning five in a row. It sucks.

But it could be far worse. The Angels have lost four in a row. ALL TO THE ASTROS.

Game Times and Broadcasts

  • Tuesday, June 4 at 9:05 CT on WGN.
  • Wednesday, June 5 at 6:05 CT on CSN.

Pitchers

Scott Feldman, Matt Garza. Jered Weaver, Jason Vargas.

Lineups

The Angels’ lineup is a touch better than the Cubs’, especially with the DH.

Hot?

Um. Scott Hairston? Ryan Sweeney? Definitely Jason Vargas, who went 0-3 with a 4.85 ERA in April, but 5-0 with a 2.30 ERA in May.

Not?

Most Cubs. But at least Albert Pujols is hitting .243/.315/.408 this year, and Josh Hamilton is even worse at .216/.280/.380.

Series She-View

It’s not really happening in a Short Series Preview (though you are welcomed to start one up over at the Message Board), so, instead, here’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt flapping his wings because remember that movie:

What? Looking at pictures of beautiful women is too much bother for a short series? Boooo!

You know how the internets works right?

Yeah, but it’s similar to how it’s more enjoyable to hear your favorite song come on the radio than when you play it on your own.

        1. DarthHater

Exactly. Plus, I can’t google chick pics at work. :-D

The Emperor put parental controls on the Death-Star wifi? Weak.

Speaking of which, I watched some of Return of the Jedi last night and forgot how bad Yoda actually looks compared to what they do now with CG.

When 900 years old you are, look so good you will not.

Muppet he is, high expectations have you for 1983, worse looking Rancor it is…

              3. MichiganGoat

See I prefer the muppet Yoda, at least Lucas fixed the horror that was Yoda in the phantom menace (man that movie really ruined that franchise).

Death Star’s just my night job. By day, all Sith Lords are attorneys. ;-)

Interesting, didn’t know you were a lawyer. Chicago?

I have a special practice defending actions of the Emperor against spurious legal claims trumped up by those rebel malcontents.

          2. Cubbie Blues

Let me help you out with that then, Darth.

Sorry, but the She-View should be limited to unmarried chicks.

The hell with it, representing the Cubs – Denise Milani:images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtUh2Tq27moC2so1t3HpdZaFKxdpAUV0ND5MmAtsScMWQ__zyl13by9PY

  2. Rice Cube

I like the old school Angels logo.

  3. Sarah

I was hoping there would be a reference to “Angels in the Outfield” in the series preview. Thank you for not disappointing.

  4. Jacob

FWIW, Mike Ferrin says there’s no reason to worry about Castro’s struggles..

  5. Jp3

If by Angels in the OF for Aneheim you mean dead players. You’re correct, I’m pretty sure he was referring to Josh Hamilton.

    1. Cubbie Blues

      I thought that was a fan …

  6. forlines

As far as the Cubs winning…. “It can happen; ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!!”

    1. Jp3

At best, 50% of the time

  7. MichiganGoat

Captioning the Pic: “Okay fans reach into your pockets take out all your money and drop them in the bucket, we need to sign another 100M+ player”

  8. X the Cubs Fan

Trade showcase with Garza and Feldman out there?

    1. Jono

If I were the rangers GM, I wouldn’t have much interest in Feldman. But I am REALLY hoping that some kind of combination with garza but without soler/baez/Almora would get back profar. Im really bad at judging fair trades, so beyond that, I have no clue

      1. Jono

Wait, wrong AL west team. Nevermind

  9. Jp3

Ok captioning the series photo…. “No kid, that’s not the type of bird we’re talking about giving Hamilton after his 4th K this game”

  10. willis

Castro dropped to 6th tonight, Valbuena hitting 2nd.

  11. willis

My bad, forgot about the DH, he’s actually batting 7th. Interesting.

    1. Jono

      Finally
