Apropos of last night/this morning’s Ian Stewart Twitter flap, let me present the kinda-sorta resolution, as it played out on Twitter.

From Stewart:

From Dale Sveum (not on the Twitterz, mind you, but this is as close as it gets):

From a statement by Ian Stewart’s agent:

And from Theo Epstein, with the hammer:

On a suspension without pay, if there’s cause (everyone contract has a provision that you won’t disparage the organization, so this probably qualifies), a negotiated release where Stewart doesn’t get his full $2 million salary is a real possibility. Under other circumstances – i.e., without an unpaid suspension – the Player’s Association would never let that happen.

So, it’s possible that this ended up working out well for the Cubs. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

He can’t play for the cubs minor league teams. It would e detrimental like Luke says. Its too bad they can’t require some type of community service for the fulfillment of his contract.

  • Tom A.

Hopefully he is history like Milton Bradley — a selfish jerk !

Pedro Ciriaco, was just released..can play all over the diamond..hope Cubs take a look at him

  • Bilbo161

Really don’t think his opinion on his status could be grounds for suspension w/o pay indefinitely. Maybe contractually but not legally. Wouldn’t it more likely the Cubs are using this as a ploy to force a negotiation that they hope will save them some money on his contract. Seems a bit underhanded to me.

    • BT

Contractually IS legally. And it’s not just his opinion on his status. He was retweeting posts saying the Cubs had terrible leadership. I’d say that fits under a loyalty clause. Also, are you Ian Stewart?

    • Tom A.

Why say silly things like your post ? Are you just trying to be wrong ? If like Mr. Stewart I said any of the things about my company or bosses, my departure would be immediate.

  • Keith cole

Just let it ride. The guy’s obviously frustrated. Let him work his way back to the majors. The Lord knows the Cubs need all the help those pathetic losers can get-and that’s coming from a die-hard Cubs fan from Mississippi.

    • Tom A.

“pathetic losers” and “die-hard Cubs fan” — No you are not such !

  • HackAttack

Anyone know if they can sell his contract to a team in Japan/Korea/Tawain without needing his consent?

  • Die hard

Hope Vitters agent got future at third written into his contract .. May come in handy

  • Tom A.

I am curious, is he still posting ignorant comments on twitter or facebook ?

    • aCubsFan

It looks like Stewart deleted his Twitter account.

  • willis

He’s just pissed he can’t make the roster of the worst team in baseball.

Well that and he’s a fart face.

    • Jp3

Awesome Willis!!! That’s hilarious, can’t play 3rd on the worst team in baseball, the Astros I guess could still try and pick him up though😝

  • Jp3

Why delete his account now? Damage is already done dude… I’d like to have heard his agent begging, emploring him, please, please for the love of all that is holy shut your account down!!!😝

    • mudge

He’s probably got his hands full with his wife as well.

  • Ed
