Quantcast

wrigley field from right bleachersOk, Jeff Samardzija. Your turn.

By which I mean your turn to drive in a few runs, because pitching well isn’t going to be enough to win the game. And it would be a very nice win, since the Cubs are quietly on the verge of being swept in a four-game set at home. It doesn’t matter how badly a team is play … that always sucks.

Starlin Castro is back in the two-hole because, well, why not at this point?

  • Cubbie Tim

Geez I hate this line up. We Stinks!!! Can we please fast forward to 2015. This is pathetic.

  • Cubbie Tim

Looks like we are gonna have a top 5 draft pick next June.

    • Jp3

Who’s next year’s studs? We knew going into this year that somewhere In the top 10 picks would be Appel, Meadows, and Frazier at least. Stanek and Manaea kind of bombed out a little bit.

  • cubmig

    “Ok, Jeff Samardzija. Your turn.

By which I mean your turn to drive in a few runs, because pitching well isn’t going to be enough to win the game. ”

I’m thinking…….Doesn’t this qualify Samardzija being paid his salary PLUS the salary (of the day) of those players whose job he is also doing?

    • Peter

      that asshole gets paid enough

      • hansman1982

        Is this Peter Griffin?

      • TWC

Lulz. Let’s just hate everybody. Cause, why not?

  • willis

    Matt Latos Vs. the Cubs=laughter.

Shark better throw a perfecto to get this thing into extras.

    • Jp3

Ha! That’s awesome! What’s sharks pitch count today 145-160?

  • RY

Good god samardzija, focus already, shit, get one give two back, its the freakin cubs way

  • Peter

hopefully we will be 20 games under by the half, and then once we salvage what we can et for feldman, garza, and whoever else is on the trading block we will at least be the second worst team in the game again. Unfortunately nobody is going to be worse than the marlins, but if we can get that number 2 pick again, that would be sweet.

    • RY

well 14 under after today, so i would say your 20 games under is almost a guarantee.

    • hansman1982

“Unfortunately nobody is going to be worse than the marlins”

The Astros are very upset you are not paying attention to their tanking season.

      • Peter

shit thats right, don’t know how I forgot about them. Shit, then 3rd pick ain’t bad.

      • JulioZuleta

I kinda feel like the Marlins might not take a top 1 or 2 draft talent because of the bonus. Even if we were #3, my guess is that one of the top two talents would still be there. I can’t imagine them spending $7M+ on a kid when their entire payroll is like, $20M. I know the Stros are doing exactly that his year, but they are cheap because they know they suck and there’s no reason to spend on the big league roster yet. The Marlins are cheap because Loria is at least a cousin of Satan.

  • willis

Nothing like the four game home sweep to the Reds. Good feeling.

How many is that in a row to them at home? 13 or 14? Yuck. This team is off the rails.

  • fromthemitten

Anthony Slamma released by the Twins today… had an ERA below 2.00 in the minors could be a decent pickup for the Cubs the Twins really didn’t give him much of a chance

    • Edwin

He’s 29, with only 7 MLB IP in his career. That’s usually a good indicator that a player probably isn’t worth the effort.

  • John

Dale Sveum is giving Samardzija the Dusty Baker treatment 115 pitches already.

  • Rizzo44

Great at bat Castro… day off please?

  • willis

Boy, Castro just looks completely awful up there. His head is God knows where. He’s just lost all his confidence it seems.

  • fortyonenorth

Castro has a single, two well-struck outs and a K. Other than getting fooled on that third strike, he’s actually looked OK.

    • cubbie blue thru n thru

And the first 2 strikes he took during the strikeout weren’t even strikes the ump is all over the place. All in all 4 well struck balls today

  • MNeuman

Is anyone else tired of Barney? Yea great glove….absolutely horrid at the plate. Is there a statistic that can show if his glove wins more games than his bat loses? I would love to see the Cubs try Valbuena at 2nd and leave Ransom at third. At least Valbuena has an idea what a hit is and his glove may not be as good but it is definitely better than average. Anything to get off this Barney love train please!!

    • Rizzo44

Hahahaa right after you say that, Barney makes a great play..

    • Rizzo44

Hahaha again!!! Barney RBI single, 5-5!!! Good job man lol

  • http://mccarronlegal.com jmc

how bad these bums have to be before we stop paying attention to them? Theo says pay attention tothe minors but this is not Boise, Tennessee or Florida. This is one of the world’s major cities. Pity the poor guy with a wife and two kids who have to shell out a couple hundred bucks plus parking to watch this. This is Chicago go to Ravinia, Lincoln Park, Grant Park or to our great theater. We have great bars and neighborhoods.forget the Cubs until a ricketts family give this something we can enjoy. this is not a troll I’m a lifelong Cubs fan.

    • King Jeff

You can quit paying attention whenever you want. Most of us are going to keep watching, warts and all.

  • http://mccarronlegal.com jmc

sure I know and I still pay attention after all I’m here Bleacher nation but god its painful ain’t it?

  • http://mccarronlegal.com jmc

    doormats of the National League

  • RY

holy shit, barney comes thru again!!

  • http://mccarronlegal.com jmc

come on Brett. You bleed Cubbie blue a fellow lawyer weigh in

  • MNeuman

Well on that note…this whole team stinks, let’s cut them all and bring up the Daytona Cubs instead…think that will work too? (See above post in Barney)

  • http://vdcinc.biz 70’scub

I’d keep Castro-Rizzo the rest can and should be turned over in the next 18 months!

    • Jeff

I’d put Castro in a trade for David Price if I could, I think taking the gamble on Baez turning into a better SS would be worth it. IMHO

  • Peter

looking like Gregg will be our lone representative all star. Too bad he could not have been this effective in 2009, would have had a way better chance getting to the playoffs that year, and then the Cardinals got that penis head matt holliday from the A’s. I swear, that guy’s head gets bigger and balder every year from whatever he is taking.

  • Rizzo44

    Castro!!!!! Wow come on wind….

    • cooter

Good thing Soriano took Castro under his wing when he first came up because now he really knows how to watch the ball after a hit. Brenly impression, RUN RUN.

  • MichiganGoat

I just love how people show up when a team is failing to cry and moan about how bad the team is and how much they hate the team and who should get fired and who is a bum. Yet if they start winning these people just disappear. Fandom at its finest.

    • DarthHater

Isn’t when they are bad the best time to moan about how bad they are?
      #goatlogic
      :-P

    • Jeff

I just love when people on here make generalizations about other people who post on here. Like they somehow are the only original authentic super fan and everybody else is just a dumb idiot.

      • DarthHater

I just love when everybody gets all passive aggressive about everybody else…

        • DarthHater

          Really, I do. ;-)

    • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Are all these whiners sales managers ?

  • dumbledoresacubsfan

All the Cubs have to do to get the fire under their belly is watch and listen to this video right here.

    • dumbledoresacubsfan

Cool. It didn’t embed. Here’s the link. Greatest motivation ever.

      • DarthHater

I couldn’t get motivated to watch past the 2 minute mark. :-P

        • dumbledoresacubsfan

Tis a shame. You could have at least listened to it in another tab. hahaha :p It gets me motivated during long runs/rides.

          • DarthHater

I am motivated by the Dark Side of the Force.

            • calicubsfan007

              Are there cookies there? (;

              • DarthHater

                Yes, but dark chocolate only.

  • Mark S

When do we get to see Soriano pitch after we use up all the relievers?

    • Patrick W.

Soriano will go to 2nd, Barney will move to SS, Castro to 3rd and Ransom to the mound, T-Wood to the OF. .

      • Die hard

Abbott pitch and Costello catch? The 3 Stooges already employed as Mgr and coaches

      • Dynastyin2017

        Save ink…just put Wood @ 3rd.

        • Jp3

Ok, for those of us who can’t see it on the field, how do we look right now (other than one of the worst teams in baseball)?

      • Patrick W.

Didn’t see on the Box that Borbon was available!

        • Blublud

Well he was. Walk off style.

  • http://mccarronlegal.com jmc

wake me up when September ends

  • Die hard

Looks like that old no 6 is peeking around the corner in extra innings

  • Dynastyin2017

Walk off homer coming….who gets it?

  • terencemann

Could have sworn I just saw Brett in the stands behind the Cubs’ dugout.

  • Voice of Reason

Worst cubs line up ever 1-8. Thank god schierholtz is having a career year!

I can’t wait till we start seeing some young kids!

    • Voice of Reason

I can’t imagine what our record would be if we weren’t getting solid starting pitching.

We’d be right there with the marlins

      • King Jeff

This could go the other way too. They’d probably be fairly close to .500 if the bullpen had been performing up to par all season. Not to make excuses, because it has been ugly at times.
