henry rodriguez nationalsThe gap of time between when the Cubs acquired Henry Rodriguez and DL’d Zach Putnam, and when Rodriguez could be ready to pitch for the Cubs has come and gone. Ably filling that gap was lefty Brooks Raley, who didn’t even have to pick up a baseball.

Raley, who was called up because he was already on the 40-man roster and could be freely shuffled up and down from AAA, was shuffled back down to AAA today as the Cubs officially added big-armed Henry Rodriguez to the bullpen.

Rodriguez, 26, was acquired from the Nationals earlier in the week in a minor trade. You can read more about the acquisition here. The short version? Be ready for a huge fastball, and huge inconsistency.

Very interested to see if this guy can harness his stuff.

  • TonyP

    Throw strikes dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dustin S
    • Jp3

OMG, this guy is going to fit in our bullpen like a glove!!! He’s going to be an absolute disaster!!! Losing 100 is back on track!😝

    • DarthHater

Awesome! If he’s gonna be as bad as Marmol, he might as well at least be more entertaining!

      • Jp3

Ha, I beat you to it Darth! This is going to be entertaining either way!

    • frank

We may not win any more games, but at least we’ll scare the Hell out of opposing batters!

      • Jackalope

Wonder what the reds batter said to him.

      • DB

        Hector Villanueva is still playing?

        • Jp3

Ha nice, does look like hector. I could make an argument he looks like a tubby(er) version of rod beck.

8 suspensions for fighting interestingly harsh… Assuming without pay

    • Kevin

There should have been more suspensions. Puig threw a punch and then ran like a thug, he needed to get a suspension. Its disappointing that MLB didn’t come down harder on these guys.

      • DarthHater

He needs to learn the rules of puig-ilism. :-P

      • Die hard

I don’t recall so many at once… Do they call up minor leaguers now assuming no appeal and how does that affect teams options? It’s potentially very costly to teams

        • Carew

I think it’d be more of an issue for the individual.

I believe Raley was warming up lsst night in 14th, so I guess he did pick up a baseball…

    • Spriggs

And the report back to the dugout by bullpen coach Les Strode must have been, “Nope, he still blows, Coach”

  • North Side Irish

    Maybe his eyelids are jammed…

    • Mike

…and/or his old man is here.

  • cjdubbya

    Oh. My. Goodness.

    That was outstanding.

“I’m going to throw this ball. It’s going to go faster than fark, but I have no farkin’ idea where it’s going to end up. I may hit YOU in the head with it. I may hit ME in the head with it. All I know is that you better not get too comfy in the batter’s box, because my 100 mile an hour heater’s comin’.”

    I love this guy already.

  • walterj

    this should be interesting .

  • Mysterious4th

“Be prepared for a huge fastball and inconsistency.”

So, in other words another Marmol? oh boy are the Cubs lucky to get him!

  • joe grippo

I don’t know if anyone has this stat but, How many Cub pitchers have come and gone so far this year (and, how many have gone because they were hurt)?

  • joe grippo

Thanks … and, how does this compare with other teams in the division?
