gods-wrathThere will be more information available in the coming days, I’m sure, but, for now, the word is that David DeJesus’s injury is a sprained shoulder. He crashed hard into the wall at Citi Field earlier tonight trying to catch a ball, and was immediately removed from the game. It was obviously that he shoulder was jacked in some respect.

A shoulder sprain could come with a wide variety of recovery times and outcomes, so it’s tough to say at this point how serious of an injury we’re looking at. All we really know is that DeJesus is going to go on the disabled list for now. Hopefully he just needs some time to rest. I guess a “sprain” is better early word than a broken clavicle or broken shoulder blade or something. Probably. I’m not a doctor.

We’ll see who replaces DeJesus on the roster, but, if it’s an outfielder, I don’t think we’re going to see Brett Jackson back up – he needs to get regular starts at AAA right now. Ryan Sweeney and Julio Borbon are likely to pick up the majority of the center field starts in DeJesus’s absence.

Cubs would have to DFA someone off the 40 man roster to bring BB up.

Cubs need to call up an IF/OF Junior Lake?

  • cjdubbya

Would they go to an 8-man pen?

All these DeJesus options sound kinda yucky…

  • cubchymyst

Hopefully he is back a few weeks before the trade deadline.

  • macpete22

They will probably just activate Camp

    • Kenster

Oh please no. I want a young guy up here try something new. But that will prob happen… Sadly

  • JBlades

They have stuck with a 12 man pen 13 position players all year. I don’t see them changing that. They will probably call up a scrub and wait until they start trading the roster before bringing up some fresh meat, like Watkins, Lake, etc. semi fresh meat like Jackson, Vitters, etc.. That is the only thing to look forward to for this year. My optimism and crossed fingers at the beginning of the year for a good to decent team has been over for quite a while now and now the fresh faces will be all I have.

  • fromthemitten

Crappelt most likely if they call up a position player but I wouldn’t be surprised to see them activate Camp since they already have a surplus of OFs and they burned a lot of arms in that extra innings game.

Why isn’t anyone mentioning Lillibridge as a possibility? :-)

Off topic, I know, but did you all notice that Juan Paniagua actually pitched in a DSL game tonight?

    • BABIP (MichCubFan)

    • Tobias

Are you sure you didn’t see Jose Paniagua?

    • Tobias

I stand corrected. It was Juan Paniagua, but they do have a RF named Jose Paniagua.

  • Cheryl

It might be better if they bring back someone for the bullpen. if they bring up one of the guys like Lake he probably wouldn’t see much playing time and he needs playing time. But I wish they would bring up someone like Almora or Lake to give a young guy a taste of the big leagues.

As for DeJesus, I hope it isn’t as bad as it sounds. Isn’t a sprain sometimes worse than a break? I don’t know much about that area. Brett and Luke would know a lot more.

OF Darell McDonald was removed very early in the game for Iowa. I wonder if he got removed so he can head to NY to replace Dejesus.

Dejesus, plays BB like it should be played period!

  • Jason (Thundermug)

Darnell McDonald , made a booboo with my previous post by saying (Darell McDonald) sorry guys but like I said I think he maybe the one to replace Dejesus.

    • cms0101

It’s possible, but I’ve been thinking McDonald was going to get cut to make room for guys getting promoted from Tennessee. Sveum said after the game that they may need a bullpen arm immediately. Maybe Raley comes back quickly.

Dejesus plays baseball the way its supposed to be played? He is average!! If you like average then I guess dejesus is your guy.

If we had 7 other guys playing the game the way dejesus plays then we would be average to below average offensively.

    No thanks.

    • Carew

the cubs are average to below average offensively

    • fromthemitten

He’s an above-average offensive player who plays a premium defensive position. He’s one of their best regulars.

  • Voice of Reason

Its the worst cubs lineup 1-8 ever

I’m glad to see Schierholtz promoted to the 3 hole… He’s proved all year that his .297 average is no fluke. Even though he may have less pop in his bat than Rizzo, he’s putting the bat on the ball.
