citi field metsA relatively big change in tonight’s lineup for the Cubs, as Anthony Rizzo slides down to the five spot, with Nate Schierholtz batting third.

It’s a pair of touch luck pitchers squaring off, if you believe the advanced stats. Both Edwin Jackson’s and Shaun Marcum’s baseball cards would look ugly at this point, but there is reason to believe they’ve pitched much better than you might think.

  • DReese

Hey Brett in the intro you have Camp instead of Marcum

  • Josh

Holy signings batman…..the Angels have already signed 34 of their 39 picks AND are 362,000 under budget.

  • UCF

Why move these guys around in the order? Does it really matter at this point? Hell I would suggest batting Castro and Rizzo 1 and 2 in the lineup just so they get more at bats over the course of the rest of the season.

    • Voice of Reason

You are exactly right. And put barney up there, too.

  • Voice of Reason

Who would pay money to see this game?

I’m going to Kane county tonight to watch the future.

    The present is not watchable.

    • TWC

      “The present is not watchable.”

Well you sure do spend an inordinate amount of time bitching about something you’re not watching.

      • fromthemitten

that’s why I listen to them on the radio!

        • fromthemitten

actually, it’s probably more due to not getting CSN Chicago

          • TWC

            And your affinity for Moreland.

            • fromthemitten

I was really tempted to switch over to the Reds broadcast the last series

    • Patrick G

      Hey I’m at this game!!

  • Josh Kirby

Although, based on context, he wouldn’t be totally incorrect.

  • fromthemitten

huh, they dropped Rizzo in the lineup. Scheirholtz doesn’t really take enough walks to be a viable #3 guy. Hopefully this is short term just to take the pressure off a little bit like they did with Castro last week

    • http://vdcinc.biz 70’scub

Maybe he gets better pitches and or walks batting 3rd? I don’t think at this point in Castro and Rizzo young careers they have the experience to be solid 2-3 hitters yet.

  • Timothy Scarbrough

Sweet we’re facing a started named Shaun Camp, he can’t be good.

  • Austin

Does anyone have a problem watching Cubs games on CSN? (That live outside of chicago, Southwest Michigan if any)

    • BABIP

I get CSN, but they black out the Cubs games.

      • BABIP

        dirctv

  • Jp3

I live in Atlanta and it tells me it’s blacked out in my area. It’s stupid because I have CSN Chicago… I guess they don’t want you to get cubs games no matter what

    • David

I live just north of the city. How do you get csn Chicago I’ve tried for YEARS

    • Austin

I live in Niles, Michigan. 2 hours from Chicago but out of the MLB black out zone yet I can’t watch CSN games but on WGN I have no problem. I can also watch Bulls games which makes no sense. Supposedly it’s CSN, according to Dish which makes more sense considering you with At&t having the same. I don’t understand why CSN is restricting the amount of people that can watch.

      • BABIP

I used to live there…just a few minutes away from Saylors. Loved Saylors.

  • Jp3

It’s in a package AT&T uverse offers, it’s great for seeing all things Chicago sports shows but baseball is f’n blacked out bc of the braves I guess

  • cooter

Nate, upper deck and still runs out of the box. Youngsters take notes

    • Headscratchin

Svuem is a genius I tell you, a genius!

  • Chris Sanchez

    Nate Goes Deep !

  • Kramden

I’m at the Cub game at Citi Field and I gotta tell ya that the Mets look so much worse than the Cubs.

  • willis

I’m digging the way this lineup lays out against righties. And so far so good.

  • Dustin S

Holy smokes…that hurts to see. Not good for DeJesus.

    • Rebuilding

      Not watching…what happened?

      • Dustin S

He went hard into the CF wall on a ball. Unconfirmed, but looked like he dislocated his shoulder and was in a whole lot of pain. I think they popped it back in and he was looking better. But he came out of the game. Sweeney in.

    • Mark S

      OUCH

    • Dustin S

Smiling a bit, so looking better.

  • Drew7

Wonder what the hell Lagares thinks is so funny about that.

  • willis

Ouch that sucks. So goes your trade value…what are you doing crashing into walls!!??

That’s really too bad. I like me some Dejesus. Hopefully it isn’t too serious.

  • Serious Cubs Fan

Dejesus hurt…Well there goes another trade chip. What a Cubbie occurrence.

  • Malcolm

He crashed into the wall full speed. I’m guessing either a sprained AC joint (separated shoulder) or maybe a broken collarbone. Hopefully just a bruise though.

  • Kyle

Good. No reason to be trading a guy with a team-friendly 2014 option anyway.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Yeah! Because if he has value to the Cubs, that means the same cant possibly be true for other teams!

      • Kyle

If he has value to the Cubs, why should I care that he has value to other teams?

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

You’re relieved that a possible trade chip is injured because you think he has value to the Cubs and want the injury to preclude the Cubs from even exploring his trade value. Do you really need me to explain why that’s silly?

          • Kyle

Well, yeah, it sounds silly when you put it that way.

        • Kyle

(yes, I know the answer is “some team might offer us more than he’s worth to us,” but that’s literally true of every player under organizational control, and makes the entire concept of trade chip meaningless)

          • Josh

Wow….if DeJesus or his wife were to read this site they would think that he was a piece of horse flesh at a meat auction. I truly hope that the first thing that went through all yours minds is “boy, I hope he is ok” and not “oh man there goes trade bait”, because if not you are a bunch of sorry human beings….

            • Jp3

              Horse meat is good

            • Kyle

He gets paid a shit-ton of money to be a piece of meat entertaining us. It was a shoulder not anything life-threatening.

            • Jp3

Have you seen his wife? His recovery no matter the severity of this “serious” injury will go just fine. He’ll still wake up a millionaire next to the aforementioned wife you spoke of…

              • Josh

Right, right, right……I guess who cares then right……he gets his money that makes him a commodity and not a person then……he has an attractive wife, that makes up for the pain that he is in……I love speculating on trades and prospects and organizational maneuvering as much as the next guy, but the second we forget that these players are actually people too, well what does that say about us then……bunch of sociopaths

                • Kyle

You’ve set up a false choice here.

He’s a person. He’s a person whom I only care about in relation to his ability to perform at baseball. I’m not his friend, I’m not his family, and I don’t need to pretend to be. That does not make me a sociopath.

                  • DarthHater

Megalomania, constant obsession with The Joker… Yea, there are plenty of other things that make you a sociopath. :-P

                    • Jp3

Hey, Beetlejuice is in my pic too😀. Beetlejuice has probably many of the same problems The Joker but Beetle– oh I almost said it 3 times😜

                    • DarthHater

Well, I was referring to Kyle’s obsession with The Joker, but you can be a sociopath, too, if you like. ;-)

                    • Jp3

Ha, my avatar is a pic of the joker and beetle– is why I thought you were referring to me… And that you’re psychic;)

                    • DarthHater

I am one with The Force. Basically the same as being psychic.

                  • Josh

Got it…..ice cold logic……ice cold personality……I’ve cold heart…..forgot who i was messaging with….the avatar says it all

                    • DarthHater

Lt. Uhura: Why don’t you tell me I’m an attractive young lady or ask me if I’ve ever been in love? Tell me how planet Vulcan looks when the moon is full.

Mr. Spock: Vulcan has no moon, Miss Uhura.

Lt. Uhura: I’m not surprised, Mr. Spock.

                • Jp3

Stay calm, we all hope he’s ok. That’s 1st and foremost, by all indications he’s a great guy and teammate, but… Injuries happen and the fact is no matter the severity of these injuries it’s the nature of the sport. We can’t harp on ever hang nail or TJS that happens and hope they’re all recovering well and that they aren’t seriously injured. Hell even Theo refers to them as ASSETS. Hopefully he won’t say that in the post game news conference though😝

  • Rich H

I think Sveum is following Brett on Twitter. Yesterday during the game I sarcastically asked if he should bat in the 3 hole and today he is. LOL

  • Rebuilding

Too bad, but agree with Kyle if it means he’s a Cub in 2014 it’s a silver lining. With Garza pitching poorly our best trade chip might be…Kevin Gregg?

  • Dustin S

New rule, trade chips not allowed within 10 feet of walls or sharp objects.

  • Kenster

Who gets the call up if he hits the DL? I shivver just thinking about it being Sappelt… Hope DeJesus is alright tho

    • Dynastyin2017

      Clevenger?

      • Kenster

I was thinking the same that way we don’t have to have an extra OFer. But he’s on the 60 man DL so someone will have to get the boot off the 40 man roster

        • Dynastyin2017

Isn’t there a rule that limits how long he can be on a rehab assignment? I think the 40 man thing is going to happen either way.

  • Jp3

Brian bogusivic I guess on his way up? That could start a flurry of OF moves right?

  • Rebuilding

If its a serious injury I hope Sweeney gets a chance to show what he can do everyday

  • Malcolm

Good thing DeJesus and Sweeney are the same player….. My guess is they’ll try Sappelt again. We need another righty OF to even out our platoon.

    • Malcolm

Brett are we allowed to hope its Junior Lake?

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

CWS starts up finals at Omaho this w/e for all you fans wanting a big time catcher for the Cubs to pick up in next year’s draft keep your eyes on Indiana’s Kyle Schwarber. He has big power, high OBP, and hits left handed. Should be a top 50 pick in next years draft for sure. This kid is a former all state football linebacker from Ohio. Tough as it comes for a catcher.

    • Kygavin

It will take a lot of work for him to stay at C. Absolutely terrible behind the plate. Has an ok arm but doesnt move his feet and tries to glove balls in the dirt too much

  • Die hard

Darth … You reached your posting limit for the evening… 86 … ps— psychotic not psychic
