Scott Feldman was absolutely dominant, and the Cubs won for the third straight game. It’s been a sneaky winning streak, and two of the wins have come over the Mets … but a streak is a streak.

And the Cubs sure did put a lot of people on base today …

Hopefully not an injury… Maybe just like a sprained ankle in the field and they pulled him just out of precaution.

    • King Jeff

The only things I can find say it was a defensive replacement.

      • Jp3

His D sucks so bad they had to replace him a bit early than I’d have anticipated.😀

  • Craig

Appel signs for well below slot, 1.5 million or so less. Good news for Cubs

  • Jp3

This is where it could be a problem to get full slot if you’re Bryant, the player above you signs for less than anyone expected with the same agent you have. Please tell me of the top 3 picks we’ll have the one that goes over slot for some reason that nobody will be able to explain

    • cubchymyst

This is when I wish the front office wouldn’t play it so close to the vest. I don’t think it would give any other team an advantage knowing what these draft pick are signing for. I am waiting for some hard numbers just to see satisfy my curiosity about how the money is being distributed.

      • Jp3

Boras will be an absolute magician If he talks the cubs into shelling out more$$$ for the number 2 pick than he did for the 1st. For Boras sake, he better not get overslot considering…

        • cubchymyst

The money has probably already been talked about. My guess is that it will be underslot since Appel was underslot and most boards had Bryant behind Appel. Even giving Bryant 6M gives the Cubs an extra 700K to play with to sign other picks. Maybe Boras is just going in order of draft picks for his clients.

          • Jp3

That makes sense for Boras to prioritize his clients that way. Whomever he makes the biggest commissions on he does it in that order.

      • Timothy Scarbrough

They should be playing it close to the vest on a matter of principle if nothing else. You don’t want to get in the habit of letting other teams know what is going on.

        • cubchymyst

I agree they should, I just want more information like we all do. Could of made that more clear.

  • Craig

Only difference is Bryant can go back to school so he has a little more leverage than Appel

    • Mysterious4th

No way he will go back. He wouldn’t top what he did this season and that means he’d probably drop in the draft and lose even more money. Boras will use Bryant’s awards to push the Cubs closer to slot.

      • King Jeff

That doesn’t mean that Boras won’t use the threat in negotiations.

  • caryatid62

We’ve been waiting too long on Soler, Almora and Baez–Those guys need to hurry up and get to the big leagues so people here can nitpick them to death, too. I’m sure some of you all are getting bored staring at Castro’s lack of sunglasses and waistline. I’m sure you need the next group of players that can be overanalyzed and overcriticized.

What did Harry Caray say once a long time ago after a Latin SS lost a pop up in the sun – ” How does a guy who grew up playing ball in Puerto Rico lose a ball in the sun ” ?

    • mjhurdle

      nit-picking and over-reacting.
two things that there seems to be way too much of right now.

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

I guess you are under the same assumption Harry was,, as its apparently OK with you that a professional player should go on the field without the proper equipment.

    • caryatid62

Yes, it is. That’s exactly what I was saying.

Good god, this is ridiculous. I love the Cubs. I hate Cubs fans.

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

What I am saying about Castro is that after 3 years in the majors you would think the small things would have been learned and applied by now I.e. sunglasses on a sunny day.
I coached both baseball and softball for more years than I can count and if my players went on the field unprepared, without sunglasses, they would be sitting the rest of that game.

Good news from the Boise Hawks tonite on the pitching front. They lost 1-0 but Paul Blackburn threw 5 innings of 1 hit ball with 0 BB and 8 K’s. great start for this young man.

  • Mike

Starlin Castro will be traded by July 31st, 2014.

    • Thompsonville, Il_Cubs

please tell me u are kidding

      • JOE

Thompsonville, IL, huh? You’re in my part of the country (Marion) so it’s natural that we’re both in agreement that the idea of Starlin being traded is ridiculous.

        • Jp3

You could be Mars and know that trade is ridiculous. If he doesn’t turn it around soon we wouldn’t be able to trade him for a wet bag of farts.

          • CubbiesOHCubbies

And why would we want a wet bag of farts??????

    • Lyle Ernst

Why wait to trade Castro until next year? Oh, I know why; because Starlin tells everyone he’s a .300 hitter. Hah!

      • 70’scub

Really smart, he is a 300 hitter and is under 24 years old.

  • morgan

Padres get to 500 and are 3 games out, maybe they stick in it and we can offer Garza and get into that nice farm system they have

  • mudge

like to see sweeney lead off for a couple weeks.

  • Kubphan82

Rizzo had three walks and zero left on base… Not sure what that says about those around him, but I have a feelin that his struggles this season have something to do with the talent around him… Give the man some help!!!

Soriano really needs to get hot, it’s his time of year… Then I could see Rizzo taking off.
