Scott Feldman was absolutely dominant, and the Cubs won for the third straight game. It’s been a sneaky winning streak, and two of the wins have come over the Mets … but a streak is a streak.

And the Cubs sure did put a lot of people on base today …

  • DarthHater

How can you leave 35 runners on base, if you only have 20-21 guys get on base? ;-P

    • Chad

If there is one runner left on base and the next three guys get out they each left a man on base. One guy, but 3 LOB.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

That column totals individual LOB (so a runner on second, for example, could count as three LOB). Have to look down at the Team LOB.

    • mul21

That’s team LOB. If a guy makes an out with only one out and 2 on and the next guy makes an out as well, that counts as 4 team LOB. The actual number of guys LOB was 16.

    • DarthHater

      I was joking, guys. :-P

  • Tommy

More walks than strikeouts is nice. 35 LOB – how is that even possible. Wow!

  • Die hard

What does Castro weigh? 210-215… What’s he hitting .237… What I say month ago about sending him down to regroup so wouldn’t be here today? Cubs don’t care and neither should we… He needs an intervention fast or lost forever

    • Carew

“Lost forever”? Come on man. Do you read what you write

      • Die hard

        Patterson Pie Choi … Castro?

        • DarthHater

Excellent point, because the career trajectories of those players are all quite comparable to Castro’s.

          • Die hard

            Thank you

            • CC

Which one of Patterson, pie, or Choi had 200 hits in a season at 20 years old? Good players go through adjustment periods, can you find something else to talk about? (Preferably at a different site…)

      • AB

Blow Hard apparently misses Castro’s chiseled physique.

        • Die hard

If weighs 225 then even worse

    • King Jeff

      He weighs 190.

      • Die hard

Rookie year… See that beer belly

        • King Jeff

I don’t see a 35 pound weight increase. He looks almost exactly the same.

        • DarthHater

I know it’s utterly pointless to even bother pointing out empirical facts to you, but here are a couple photos of Castro from April 28 and May 1, 2013:

The only fat in evidence is the overwhelming abundance of it between your ears.

          • Die hard

He was a stick when came up.. Easily now 215

            • Carew

I think a professional athlete lifts weights

    • Can’t think of a cool name

Castro weighs 190. If he puts on 25 ibs of muscle, those balls to the warning track will be gone.

  • Chad

I don’t think Castro could handle leaving double digits left on base.

  • Dynastyin2017

Guys, look at the Team LOB…it’s highlighted.

  • EuroCub

It’s not like THIS Team LOB makes it look better compared to 35 individually.
But W stands and that’s what counts.

    Go Cubbies!

  • Tim

I think you guys aren’t looking at the 2 great things about this game!

    1. Cubs won
    2. Kevin “Lights Out” Gregg!

    • DarthHater

I refuse to say anything about #2, or I’ll jinx it.

      • Jason

haha, I was thinking the same thing. I hated this guy, and I’ve been very quiet lately.
I’m just hoping this post doesn’t jinx him now…

        • DarthHater

I’m sure we have jinxed him now. But then again, I’m a Cubs fan…

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Does Castro not own a pair of sunglasses ? He looked like he was struggling out there today. Barney as always had his on. Just another thing to bitch about with this kid, but when will he finally get it ?

    • caryatid62

Complaining about whether he wears sunglasses? Seriously?

      • DarthHater

If you’re gonna suck, you should at least look cool.

      • Drew7

Better that than about who the Cubs drafted in the 33rd round.

        • Jp3

Ha! Funny drew, I saw that earlier today where someone (I won’t name names) said that Castro can feel a 33rd rounder breathing down his neck? Wha!?!?

    • Hansman1982

Oh I dunno, probably around 25 years old…about the same time Barney (who comitted 25 errors as a 24 year old in the minors)

Awwwwww snap another piss n moaners little hissy fit destroyed by reason and logic

      • Rebuilding

Reason and logic don’t usually follow non-sequiturs. The guys on the radio mentioned several times how hard he was battling the sun on pop-ups

  • caryatid62

More runners on base, more chances to strand runners. Also more chances to score runs–5 runs is a very solid offensive game.

If the Cubs left 35 guys on base every game, but scored 5 runs per game, I don’t think anyone would care.

    • baldtaxguy

You are likely right. The complaining would shift to the next crisis issues, like the lack of sunglasses or added weight on the shortstop

      • HoustonTransplant

        Or general lack of bellyfire.

  • Kyle

Cubs would be a lot better if they didn’t have to ever play the Reds, Pirates or Cardinals.

    • CubFan Paul

The Cubs would be a lot better if they didn’t give up on the 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 seasons.

      • Hansman1982

To be fair, they didn’t give up on the 10 and 11 seasons.

        • YourResidentJag

So, they just gave up on ’12 and ’13. :)

    • Can’t think of a cool name

      Yes, true words Kyle.

  • Hansman1982

RISP doesn’t matter when you win.

  • Oswego chris

The Kevin Gregg thing is just absolutely unreal…guy could go from scrap heap, to valuable trade piece to nice little free agent deal….

  • CubsFanSaxMan

You people complain when the Cubs lose and complain some more when they win. Take the win and celebrate. Go have some ice cream! You will feel better.

I like “Lights Out” Gregg. Let’s use it!

    • Tim

I’m all in on Lights Out

  • Chris

I was at the game today. The only thing better than watching the Cubs win is listening to the Mets fans complain about their team.

  • daveyrosello

Starlin Castro, 1 for 6 with **NINE** men LOB. Woof.

  • Rebuilding

Gregg is pitching differently this year. There is a good Fangraphs article on it that I’m too lazy to look up

  • JoĆ£o Lucas
    • DarthHater

He decided to go back to school after discovering the fountain of youth…

      • Carew

        ha

    • Good Captain

I wonder if he failed the physical, otherwise its sounds a bit odd.

  • BRANT BROWN

RELAX with Castro guys. Hes four years in and this is his first major slump at the age of 23. Think about that for just a second. Can we also mention how his defense has improved. Lets be excited that feldman and Gregg looked good. They might even net us something good come July 31st. Back to the future thought we would win it in 2015 so instead of spending your time complaining about Castro someone should be leaning how to invent the hover board and make this thing happen.

    • Die hard

You may be right….. But ironically Brant Brown was another kid mishandled

      • DocPeterWimsey

One, that wouldn’t be irony, it would just be a coincidence. And, two, Brown was not mishandled at all. Brown whiffed at a ridiculous rate (over 25% of his PAs) without walking anywhere near enough (under 8%). “Handling” has nothing to do with those kinds of numbers. Moreover, Brown wasn’t a kid: he was in his mid-20’s by the time he got to MLB.

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Don’t worry this FO will hold on to Feldman & Gregg just long enough for both of their values to start heading south. Then they’ll say the right deal did not present itself before they both start sucking or get injured like Garza last year.

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

I’m sure there is a pitcher somewhere coming off TJ surgery that Theo and Jed have their collective eyes on.

    • baldtaxguy

      Are you Assman?

      • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

        Do you like Vizcaino ?

      • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

        I thought Kramer was assman.

        • YourResidentJag

          HA!

    • YourResidentJag

Yep. His name is Mike Pelfrey. ;)

  • kenster

Mooney said sveum said Sappelt would be first one to come up from 40 man roster… I DONT WANT CAMP OR SAPPELT GIVE US SOMEONE DIFFERENT AND BETTER!! Please and Thank you

  • Die hard

Couple days ago I talked about Herb Score …. Now Alex Cobb … Would think MLB would’ve figured how to better protect these pitchers.. hope fate is better for kid

    • Carew

How could they possibly protect them more? Shit happens, unfortunately

      • cubchymyst

I remember hearing about possible head protection for pitchers, either a liner under the hat or a different type of head gear all together.

        • Carew

          That would be nifty

      • Die hard

NASA would have solution … Bud give em a call

  • nosup4u

I like kevin “wild thing” gregg. Those glassed must be working out

  • Die hard

    Blackhawks showing super Bellyfire !!

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Baez 2 for 2 both doubles in A league all star game tonite.

    • Jp3

Interesting, did he compete in the HR derby do you have any idea?

      • King Jeff

Didn’t see it, but report says he lost in the finals.

        • Jp3

Thanks King Jeff, great to hear. Wonder if Sano was in it? Isn’t that the HR stud in high A everyone talks about?

          • King Jeff

He got promoted to Double A recently.

            • Jp3

Ahhhh, I found that report finally. Can’t believe the high A home run derby that ended minutes before the game wasn’t more celebratedšŸ˜€. Either way I was glad to hear Baez is also 2-2 in the actual game tonight against high A Allstar pitching.

              • King Jeff

He got his hits off of Noah Syndergaard, I believe.

  • http://vdcinc.biz 70’scub

Castro two RBI to put the game away and a stolen base! Management wants him to pull the ball not chip singles.

  • Dynastyin2017

Die Hard. Your brilliance is undeniable, you have amazing stick-to-it-ness, and you will one day have a spot in the troll HOF, but please don’t jink the Blackhawks.

    Thank You,

    • Die hard

Bobby Hull was a client of my late father.. My family goes way back with them … Tread lightly son

  • 5412

    Hi,

18 chances with men in scoring position and the game goes down to the wire.

What a difference a consistent clutch hitter would make.

    Regards,

    5412

    • Drew7

      Isn’t that a bit of a conundrum?

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Almora with two more hits , Alcantara with two doubles today for Smokies, we do have some quality position players in our system. Maples at Kane County with another poor outing though. Where are the pitchers ?

    • Jp3

Yeah maples struggled again throwing strikes, he walked 4 in .2 innings and I think 7 BB last outing. Something must be up

      • AB

        “Something must be up”

Probably the fact he has pretty poor control.

        • Jp3

I’m really hoping this has something to do with him not throwing much at all last year and not that he just sucks at pitching.

          • jj

Maples couldn’t locate his fastball – not even close. Then on 2-0, 3-1, hitters tee off if he actually got it over the plate. An error by Amaya didn’t help. I’m hoping its rust, but he had all the earmarks of something more.

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Luke

This has the earmarks of being mechanical. We’ll see.

      • cjdubbya

        His pitches?

    • Rcleven

      “Where are the pitchers ?”

Still throwing it against the wall.
      Eventually some will stick.
Hendricks is having a nice season in Tenn.

  • Carmelo

Does anyone know why Soler was in the starting line-up for the FSL All Star game and was removed without batting?

    • Jp3

What? Why the hell would they do that?
