wrigley field from right bleachersInterleague play is back! Wait. The schedule says it’s the Astros. And it’s at Wrigley. This isn’t going to feel like interleague play at all, is it?

I guess who cares, as long as the Cubs play well after an ugly series in St. Louis.

Matt Garza gets another patsy lineup (nice), and he gets Dioner Navarro behind the plate. Hopefully he dominates.

The game is currently under a delay.

I dont see this game starting for a while.. skies look scary in Park Ridge, maybe 3:05? Go Cubs!

  • dumbledoresacubsfan

Is the reason Barney keeps leading off because he sees a lot of pitches or because they’re trying to get him a lot of at bats so they can shop him better?

    • EQ76

haha…. or is Sveum just saying “screw it”.. they’re all a bunch of terrible .230 and below hitters lets just let the first person to get dressed lead off today.

      • hansman1982

He does have a career .320 OBP and a 2013 .350 OBP against lefties. He’s not a terrible (just not particularly good) leadoff hitter with a LHP.

        • EQ76

Didn’t we have a really hot streak back in ’11 when Castro and Barney were 1-2 hole? I seem to remember that working and we’ve never seen it since.

  • James Bush

I looked at the Astros line-up and laughed. Then I looked at the Cubbie line-up and my head dropped in sorrow. At least I got some cool new BN t-shirts without paying shipping!

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Thompsonville, Il_Cubs

yes both lineups are laughers! Javy Baez and company can’t get here soon enough

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Always a winner!

  • Chad

I’m to the point where I want Garza to do well so there is trade value, but the cubs still lose so they get a better draft pick next year (so far they’re doing that pretty well). Carlos Rodon or bust. Haha.

  • kenster

I thought the 3 spot was for your best hitter lol… but other than schierholtz or valbuena idk if the Cubs have one of those right now

  • Josh K

    Buster Olney just tweeted:

Total speculation: Nate Schierholtz would be an excellent fit for the Royals.

  • OlderStyle

At the game and the beer is flowing like wine. Maybe we’ll have baseball in an hour or so.

And the women instinctively flocking like the salmon of Capistrano?

Watching this game from 2007 is a bit depressing. That team wasn’t uber-amazing and it’s still soooo far ahead of the current situation. I am so looking forward to having Cubs games that matter again in September.

  • Eva

    4:35 start, supposedly.

  • baseballet

Does the rain delay count as time off for Castro? Is he using this time to clear his head?

    • TWC

      ::rimshot::

    • Turn two

The point of that line of thinking is that he needs time to watch the game up close, not time to sleep.

  • MNeuman

I don’t want to jinx it but ever since I spoke badly about Barney he has gone on a tear. Now I can’t take all the credit but…….I think I deserve quite a bit!

  • MNeuman

And on this same note, how about a straight platoon at 2b with Watkins who hits righties quite well and Barney who it’s lefties very well? Both are good with the glove(ok Barney is great) and both could also act as the back up/utility infielder. Win/win in my book, get better results from 2b, and don’t have to waste a roster spot for simply a platoon (since they can also be utility infielders).

  • Rebuilding

We’ve flipped Brent Lillibridge for….a PNL or cash considerations from the Yankees

  • Drew7

    Well, I see Garza’s fielding skills haven’t changed :)

  • Serious Cubs Fan

    Brett/Luke,
Any word on Dayan Diaz’s minor league status? He was the interest 24 yr old the Cubs signed to a minor league deal a couple months back. I couldn’t find any stats for him for this year and it looks like he got a assigned to the Daytona Cubs, but could find anything else about him. Injury? Any word on him?

  • TommyK

Why doesn’t Dale bring in Marmol here? Idiot.

    • Carew

I know its a joke, but my heart still skipped a beat

  • TommyK

Garza, if you want to finish the game, try not walking the lead off man in the 9th with a two run lead.
