Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 3, Brewers 9 – June 25, 2013

Edwin Jackson’s night, unfortunately, looked more like the April/May version of Jackson than the June version. Nate Schierholtz hit a three-run bomb, which was swell, but that pretty much sums up the positives from tonight’s blowout loss. Incidentally, it was the Cubs’ 9th straight loss at Miller Park.

Can’t blame this one on Carlos Marmol, though someone just clever enough to be dangerous will find a way.

At least the bullpen couldn’t blow this one…..

  2. ssckelley

I was excited to see Camp back pitching.

    1. kenster

I can’t tell if that was sarcasm… but I truly hope it was

  3. Rebuilding

So the Brewers have beaten us 19 of the last 21 at Miller Park. It’s hard to be that bad

    1. Dynastyin2017

      Apparently not THAT hard.

  4. Jeff

The team was so distraught over Marmol’s DFA that they didn’t show up to play tonight…..Damn Marmol.

    There you go Brett. :)

  5. dying cubs fan's last request

So i guess Edwin Jackson’s problem is only ‘bad luck’ huh.

    1. Kubphan82

No it’s our fault, for being too hard on him for expecting a top 3 starter who eats innings because that’s what he’s being paid. Shame on us fans for the way we talk about and treat the players who don the Cubs threads!!!!

    2. CubFan Paul

      BABIP BABIP BABIP.

  6. Rebuilding

I sincerely hope that when the Cubs finally win the World Series that Brett takes time from his blogging empire to do one last Enhanced Box Score and all of us fools that care so much about this bad team are still around. I’m sure Die Hard will have an interesting take on how it was Ed Lynch’s groundwork that made it possible

    1. X the Cubs fan

I wouldn’t miss one second of ths ensuing pandemonium. I would definitely go streaking!

      1. cubswin

I went streaking tonight after I heard the front office released marmol!!

        1. toot

Yikes! But I do understand. Narmol is washed up, But laughing as he is a millionaireeeee.

  7. Dynastyin2017

To Brett’s EBS comment, it does seem the Cubs do help slumping players turn it around. Didn’t Stanton’s first 3 homers come against the Cubs? Do we have advance scouts, or are we saving money there too?

  8. chuvk in des moines

    RISP:
    Cubs 1-10
    Brewers 4-9
    At least they’re consistent!

    1. Jeff

      RISP?????

That’s when a Cubs player hits a home run, right?????

  9. Matt D

I’m thinking we should hold on to Schierholtz for next season unless some team blows hoyer away with aan offer. the guy has been an unreal surprise.

  10. HackAttack

Soriano has ZERO trade value right now. No chance he’s traded this season. His stats at the plate have been aweful this past month and not much better for the season. Why not put him on the bench and let Borbon and Boguwhatits play for a while.

    1. hookersorcake

Yep I would assume Soris got about 36 days of playing time left. Maybe time to take another once or three off the ol bat.

      1. HackAttack

My apologies to Brian Bogusevic. I didn’t know how to spell his name even though it was in the column just to the right.

Soriano has been better against lefties. Maybe it’s just time to platoon him.

        1. Brian Bogusevic

No problem. Now can you pronounce it? I’d be glad to platoon with Soriano, good idea!

  11. willis

Szczur just doubled home Torreyes to win the game in the 14th for the Smokies, so there’s that.

    1. X the Cubs fan

      Triple A call up?

      1. Jp3

It’s about that time, we need to move someone though in Iowa 1st right?

        1. X the Cubs fan

We have two open spots with Stewart and Bogusevic off of the Iowa roster.

  12. Required

I’m loving this Edwin Jackson signing.

    1. Jeff

Hope I can get a nice contract over the winter, got my fastball up to 53-56 mph. Hope the front office will look past my obvious deficiencies and give me 4 to 5 yr contract, even if I won’t be relevant by the time this team needs a stud like me and my arm!

    2. 70'scub

Good reason why ERA, and winning % trump other stats when looking at starters. Jackson was 50% (W) on a team that had the best record last year and 50% (W) on a team that won the WS. the year before. ON the Cubs he is lucky to win 20% (W) he has only two pitches third time through, the opposing lineup lights him up. That is the Book on Jackson, nibbles, high pitch count, many base runners= giving up runs. These sab met stat guys say unlucky, I say look at his ERA and win % this pitcher has bullpen role in his future last two years of his Cub contract.

  13. hookersorcake

I see people mentioning the Brewers shopping Ramirez…. I know he had a real nice year last year but he’d have to get pretty hot over the next month to have any chance of someone picking up a 35 yr old due another 25 million He’s a liability in the field at this point. I would assume an AL team might take a chance on him but I can’t imagine anything other than some salary relief.

    1. Rebuilding

Sounds like a Yankee to me. Although they are supposedly trying to get under the luxury tax payroll of $189 million

      1. hansman1982

Is this the 4th or 5th offseason they were dedicated to getting under the luxury tax?

        1. hookersorcake

I would be pretty cool if the Yankees could have Arod – Youk – and Aram at 3B Thats around 50 million for 3B ahead of Houston and Miami and almost as as Tampa’s entire 57 mil payroll.

  14. Mr.Boring

Has Theo/Jed signed anybody that is good except Sheirholtz? Fellow Cub fans. This is a joke. I have not tuned in for about a month which is a first since before 1984.

    This team is bad.

If I’m Sveum, and he show’s up to Manage a bad team in his first gig looking like “Hobo Joe”. Break off a cigar and you got the part Dale. Dirty Engineer hat may help as well.

Your gone in my book because you do not look like a professional but expect from that, professional players at least shave.

At some point you need to clean up and come to work looking like you need respect. Did he go to his job interview looking that way?????

Seriously Mr. Rickett’s, please do not tell us this is who you hung your hat on.

Theo/Jed, not what to say at this point except I won’t be buying a ticket.

    1. 70'scub

      Are you wanting Ryno?

    2. hookersorcake

Rizzo, T. Wood, Feldman, Dejesus, Valbuena, Maholm/Vizciano Vilenueva, Navarro, Soler Sweeney, the pitcher in AA… bringing our farm system up 10 -15 slots… pretty horid.

    3. Falselife

Just because you don’t understand what is happening doesn’t mean it’s not happening. In two seasons our farm system has went from meh to top 5. A long term winning foundation is built on the farm. They are starting with that step.

Dale is what he is, a guy set up to fail. He’s doing work and knows his fate, as it has been predetermined. Don’t hate on the guy for managing a losing team to a losing record.

    4. JOE

I kept reading this comment, expecting some sort of surprise ending because I couldn’t believe you were actually using Sveum’s appearance as an excuse for this team’s struggles. This team was destined to struggle; didn’t matter if Sveum was in the dugout or not. Saying that the man is not professional is extremely ignorant. Whether you like the guy or not (I happen to like him, btw) if you’ve ever seen him in an interview, you should not question his professionalism. Very few managers in the game could handle the situation Dale has been put in better than he has handled it. Sure, he stumbles over words at times, but that’s because he’s genuine and non-scripted. Never has he handled himself or this team in a way that made me say, “Man, that’s really just unprofessional and he no longer deserves our respect.”

  15. 70'scub

CUB FANS: After this trade dead line is it ok to CUT Sori if the Cubs find no takers for his services and/or he declines a trade?

    1. DARRRRRR

      No that’s stupid

      1. 70'scub

I am stupid from the DARRRRRR!, You are the bright one, you like Sori’s outstanding defense, maybe his great arm or range! Why is that not enough hint he can barely play left field? Then you must like his great hitting with guys on second or third with one or two outs the American league teams can want that. No you like his swing at 56 foot bouncing breaking pitches that are normally off the plate to the catchers right. Maybe you like his OB %. Cut him after the all star break, the Cubs need to start giving playing time to the players that want to do it the Cubs way! Like Z was cut! Did you missed him?

        1. X the Cubs fan

What would be the point of cutting him? We get no money back out of it. I can honestly say we’d be better off keeping him.

  16. DARRRRRR

    Should’ve dfa’d Edwin Jackson

  17. Alb_daKID

I must say, I was catching the game here n there while at work on my S3 via Mlbtv and for some reason I thought it was the Cubs puttin a can oh whoop aassss on the brewers. I came back through the twilight zone and buuuuBAMM!! Cubs are losing 9-3!!! What the hell was i watching? Reefer madness I tell ya!!!

On the other hand, Castros stance was as closed as I’ve ever seen it. Told you that would help. Its odd, now that I think of it I haven’t bought a Cub hat or merchandise for a few years now. Not that I’ve purposely done so, but maybe subconsciously I am somewhat embarrassed to be a Cubbie. Don’t get me wrong if ppl ask I proudly represent, I guess theres really not much to be proud about. Sigh……

On a perfect day….I can stand by you… but can you stand the rain…….? hm..

  18. mudge

    oh god

  19. someday...2015?

    Jaun Paniagua tonight – 4 IP, 1H, 0 R, 0BB, 5K.

0.00 ERA for the DSL Cubs so far. That’s encouraging.

  20. X the Cubs fan

Let’s lose every game after the trade deadline. Then we can choose between Rondon and Beede.

  21. jmc

    when do the Bears start?

  22. therealPattyP

I’d take Marmol over the combo of Camp and Rondon. Was the FO trying to help give Carlos Marmol a fresh start?

  23. Dave

Jackson is on pace for 21.6 losses this year.

  24. Mike

Nice to see Ransom make a couple nice defensive plays. Hopefully Castro wasn’t in la-la-land when Ransom made those plays.
