Trade candidates Scott Feldman and Yovani Gallardo squared off, with Feldman getting the better end of the deal. Although Feldman gave up three earned over six innings of work, I thought he looked pretty good. Hopefully the man, many scouts in attendance agreed.

Kevin Gregg remained perfect in save opportunities this year, although he did a little bit of the high-wire thing on the way there tonight (including a fly out up against the wall to end the game with the tying run on first).

Feldman’s pitch count was pretty low tonight. I wonder if the front office is telling Dale to keep a short leash on him and get him out of games early if he has a respectable line through six or so innings.

    • JulioZuleta

He just didn’t have very much tonight. I think they might have gotten him out just in time.

  • Oswego chris

    Gallardo…from 94-95 to 90-91….

  • CeeDeeVee

Whoah that was close….Trade Gregg NOW!!

  • Required

Valbuena flashing the leather! On base three times tonight! I’m a fan now. Gold Glove?

    • cub4life

still not a fan but I will give it to him….o and he got on a 4th time, by an error.

  • CT12

Nice play at 3rd Louie Louie

  • Oswego chris

Maybe the scouts there to watch Gregg pitch left early….

  • Oswego chris

    Wow…Castillo 7 LOBs! Too bad that’s not a fantasy category…

I also like the look of this team without Soriano. I think most times he’s just an automatic out and a liability on defense. No disrespect to him he’s been a great player in the past but, it’s time to let him go.

  • willis

That was a little too close. Gregg looking a tad hittable lately. Best to unload him as soon as possible if there are takers.

Great to see another good game from Valbuena, a couple knocks for Castro and Rizzo come through with a big hit. All around an enjoyable game to watch. Let’s put them down again tomorrow.

Watch Tim Lincecum’s entire body buckle at this Clayton Kershaw curveball http://t.co/EfYKEn0oCE (via @ChadMoriyama)

    This is just mean…

    • Austin

The curve was good but the batter being Lincecum and not really “buckeling” (is that a word) makes the Gif a disappointment and not very cool.

      • Cyranojoe

Agreed. Weak sauce, barely any buckling at all. (And yes, it’s a word — like when your bumper buckles from being struck by a Mack truck.)

    • Rcleven

Another reason for the DH in the National League.

      • ChicagoMike702

        There’s zero good reasons.

        • cub4life

          agreed…..no good reasons.

  • fromthemitten

Well no matter how badly Sveum screws up I don’t think he’ll ever do something as stupid as bunting before Yuniesky Betancourt with the game on the line. Fantastic play by Valbuena to get Weeks out though

    • hansman1982

Wow, and to PH with Yuniesky…

      Actually, sounds extremely Dalesque

      • fromthemitten

Actually, it was even dumber than a pinch hit appearance. Dumb ass manager sent him in on a double switch to play LEFT FIELD. He had 2 INNINGS of prior outfield experience.

  • fromthemitten

are you laughing at Gallardo’s “high” ERA?

  • 5412

Game should not have been close. 11 hits, 5 walks and 2 errors, and we get 5 runs?? 2-13 RISP is not going to win a lot of games.

  • Patrick G

Cant remember the last game Rizzo and Castro both had multi-hit games

  • Blake

Good to see Castro getting two hits.

    • Blake

It’s a shame you can’t edit your own comments.

  • mudge

No walks by the Cubs’ staff tonight. Feldman’s all right.

  • Alex S.

The Cubs totaled five walks and the opposing team drew zero…when was the last time the Cubs outwalked their opponent by such a margin?

    • Beardface

      What is Never, Alex?

    • CubFan Paul

      I took five shots.

  • Beardface

Bogusevic 2-4 and a walk. Nice.

  • KidCubbie

Not only can Sweeney hit but the man has some beautiful hair. I even heard Len and Jim marveling at the fact that he never gets hat hair.

Anyone remember Brian Sipe? Old Cleveland QB? He had great hair too. Straight outta the helmet, just marvelous!

        Cardiac Kids!

  • TonyE

    Hey Brett,

I heard the Braves picked up Marmol? Any truth to that?

  • Devin C

From what I saw, Castro had very good approaches at the plate last night; laying off balls out of the zone, swinging at ones he could do something with, working good counts and then being patient. Hopefully that’s a good sign of things to come.

    • Diggs

Good approach by the team as a whole, too. Made Gallardo throw a lot of pitches early.

  • TonyE

Thanks Goat. Heard it last night on MLB network but was half asleep.

    • MichiganGoat

      No worries

  • CubsFanSaxMan

The lights were just “dimmed” tonight, but “Lights Out” Gregg is still the man.
