Matt Garza takes the mound today in round two of Trade Showcasing in Milwaukee (I kid, kind of), and he gets Dioner Navarro behind the plate. He also gets Brian Bogusevic in left field again today, with Alfonso Soriano on the bench. Two games in a row? Is that just rest, or is something wrong? Soriano is expected to be the primary DH for the six-game AL swing starting tomorrow, so we’ll see what happens.

Im lookin for a couple more hits from castro today. And 2 rizzobombs. If garza goes 7 innings and picks up a quality start i believe itll be his last start as a cub. I wish he was 3 years younger cause he is one of my favorite players.

  • mdavis

no soriano 2 days in a row?

    • Required

      You complaining?

  • jacob w

    Personal catcher conversation starts…

    • cubmig

no conversation needed. …..the proof is in the pudding.

    • X the Cubs Fan

Its not a personal catcher thing it’s just that he’s never worked Castillo and Navarros a veteran and knows how to set batters up better.

  • Jim

Sori is either hurt or about to be shopped…

    • Hookers or Cake

Maybe Bogusevic is a better match up.

  • mudge

    Digging the new blood.

  • RizzoCastro

I say Garza throws a complete game shutout with 11K’s and 1 BB. I think that sets up a trade early next week. I just have a feeling about today. Soriano to the O’s or Yankees.

    • cubmig

…..might even be that he is pulled at his high point and the “controlled” outing is windowed as a glittered showcase…..

  • David

Shopped, I hope. I’m sooo done with him. I understood the FO’s “kind” words earlier in the year for keeping him around. He was the only guy on the team to protect & bat behind Rizzo – that kinda made sense. I would take a “D” prospect if a team would pay $6 million towards next year.

  • David

Is it too much of a coincidence that Soriono is not playing in 2 straight games right after Brian B. got called up??? Is Today the day?????

  • willis

I really doubt there is a deal in the works. I just think they want to look at Bogusevic more than just one game then sit him for a few more. I think the plan is to play him in left all weekend anyway, so that gives them a 5 day look at what this dude can/can’t do.

I really hope this isn’t Garza’s last start as a Cub. But also hope he dominates the shit out of these guys.

  • ChicagoJoe

Probably just the front office excerising added precaution here. If Sori isn’t going to be in the field for the next 6 days, why take the extra risk for one game of Sori in the field when 6 days off is to follow. The way things have been going on the injury front, he would pull a hamstring in the field right before a slotted 6 days as the DH.

Additionally, Bogusevic probably has won some opportunity in the eyes of the front office for his production at Iowa.

  • Le Cubs

As Brett pointed out the Rangers are very in on Garza. What would be a reasonable and possible trade between the two? I have heard the Rangers have no top 50 prospects and Garza should easily fetch at least one.

    • Rebuilding

I’m just not a big fan of the Rangers system right now. Olt has huge question marks and strikes out too much. Perez is sort of blah to me. And Cody Buckel seems to be doing his best Rick Ankiel impersonation right now (28 walks and 9 SO). I would much rather deal with the Red Sox, Padres or Dodgers

      • Le Cubs

Since Profar is struggling a bit and is blocked by a solid major leaguer at every position, do you think the Rangers may have soured on him enough to do Profar, Perez and a low level guy for say Garza and Soriano with most of the money owed to him eaten by the Cubs.

        • bbmoney

          Not a chance.

          • Le Cubs

Why is that? Not to say I totally disagree I would just like to hear some reasoning.

            • Rebuilding

Profar is/was the top prospect in baseball. He’ll be their starting 2nd baseman next year. Is only 21 and is plus in almost every aspect of the game except for maybe power which should end up above average for a middle infielder. You aren’t getting him for half a season of Matt Garza

              • Le Cubs

That’s what I thought but it sounded like Texas was desperate and that’s all of think of that would be worthwhile from Texas. What return would you like to see for Garza?

    #Nats, #Dodgers, #Orioles, #BlueJays, #Phillies have scouts at #Cubs game. Matt Garza is starting

    • gcheezpuff

Interesting that the Phillies are scouting the Cubs… I expect them to be sellers if anything. No Padres or Giants in that list surprises me.

      • Rebuilding

Maybe the Cubs are trying to be buyers from the Phillies and they are scouting others. For example Cole Hamels – he’s a buy low candidate – but personally I wouldn’t want them to take on that contract

    • SenorGato

      Nats – No clue
      Dodgers – Lee
      Phillies – Biddle
      Blue Jays – Sanchez
      Orioles – No clue

Im viewing Garza’s trade value along the lines of Beltran in 2011.

  • Rudy

Ha. Sweeney ands Bogs doing real well so far.(I know SSS) Since this is the ‘showcase’ game. Can we get anything for them too? TRADE ALL THE OUTFIELDERS!!!

  • gcheezpuff

Maybe they are just getting Soriano plenty of rest before his showcase as a DH. Let the AL teams come calling. It would be nice to see the weather warm up as I wonder if this strange, cooler & wet start to the Chicago Summer is messing with Soriano’s bat. He usually heats up when the weather does. It would be nice to see him heat up before the deadline… although I’d imagine he could get through waivers pretty easily after the deadline too.

    • mudge

It’d be nice if he weren’t slowing down at 37 years old.

  • bbmoney

That guy the brewers have out in left isn’t much of a defender. Back to back plays last night, misplays a rizzo flyball into a double and another error today.

    Also Dioner!

  • willis

Navarro loves the long ball. Excellent offensive outburst so far.

  • Leo is reporting the Brave’s are saying they want Kevin Gregg from the Cubs. Just passing the info along.

  • Rudy

So far so good for all the trade bait.

  • another JP

Ol’ Wily Peralta isn’t so wiley, haha.

  • Serious Cubs Fan

Anyone know whose better: Appel or Carlos Rodon (next yrs project #1 pick)? Rodon’s stuff is off the charts. Saw saw some video and his stuff is absolutely nasty. I literally hope we finish with the worst record so we can get this guy. He’s a college pitcher out of NC State. A years a long ways away and a lot thing can change but there is no way (barring: health) that this kid won’t go top 3 in the draft next yr and is pretty clearly as of now the best player

    • Serious Cubs Fan

People are calling Carlos Rodon one of those clear superstar talents: Gerrit Cole and Bryce Harper types.

      • someday…2015?

I hate rooting to lose but iv watched enough video of Rodon to justify it. The guy is more then legit.

    • SenorGato

Im not even sure I like Rodon over the long haul than Tyler Beede. Beede needs to throw more strikes but the words “prototypical power pitcher” are going to be all over his scouting reports. Better mechanics than Rodon and less dependent on his offspeed.

  • mudge

Garza is 2 for 2! Watching out the window for flying pigs. Maybe he’ll throw a guy out at first today!

  • KidCubbie

Man, Garza is mowing the Brewers down today. So awesome.

  • David

Get him out of there before he pulls something!!! He’s proved his awesomeness today.

  • Timothy Scarbrough

I haven’t been able to watch the games the last couple of days, has Castro looked better, to go along with his 4 hits?
