safeco fieldThe Cubs and Mariners play again tonight at a much less ungodly hour. The lateness of yesterday’s game spared me the heartache of the late loss, though, so it wasn’t all bad.

Jeff Samardzija versus Aaron Harang tonight. I’ll … take Samardzija.

It’s a throw-back night, so the Cubs are going to be wearing jerseys from 1909, or Year One, as jerks like to call it.

Game Info

Chicago Cubs (33-45) at Seattle Mariners (35-45), 6:15 CT on FOX.

  • Timothy Scarbrough

I really love the old jerseys, I always make the Cubs play in the oldest jersey possible on baseball video games.

  • Die hard

Errol Flynn. Douglas Fairbanks Jr Benny Goodman Barry Goldwater Max Baer all born 1909 — a good year

  • Crockett

I think I’d flip Castro and Sweeney in these lineups.

  • Raaptor13

Why has Borbon not gotten a start with DeJesus out?

    • Tim

      Because Sweeney is

    • Jimmy james

      Probably b/c he can’t hit 😉

  • Die hard

    Sweeney would be decent leadoff

  • Die hard

Wonder if the King would accept trade to contender ? He could fetch a franchise of good minor leaguers and wipe out Seattle payroll issues

  • Crockett

I forgot the blackout! Damn it all to hell!

Cannot believe MLB thinks it’s a good decision to black out 6 games every Saturday from their Figure out which game is broadcast on Fox in each locale and then show the other 5 games (USING FOX COMMERCIALS) through

    Dumbass Selig.

  • Crockett

PS – I live in Denver and the Yankees/Baltimore are the game they pick for us. Cause those are geographically relevant. I can guarantee the Cubs/Mariners or Reds/Rangers or Tigers/Rays would get a better rating here in Denver. SO many Midwest transplants. I never meet anyone from the east coast.

    • scott

I agree. The cubs would probably get a better rating in Phoenix as well.

  • Josh t

I can not stand this Fox broadcast. Karros is solid but idk they aren’t too entertaining. Their no Len and JD

    • Rcleven

With ya. Best option 720 AM

    • HackAttack

Karros is aweful. Very glad he didn’t get the Cubs job that went to JD.

      • AD

Seriously, these guys are awful. Three straight Mariner hitters with averages around .200 get hits and suddenly they are the next great stars in baseball. Karros is extremely awful! Thank goodness for JD!

  • nkniacc13

Brett you called the homer thing. Yeah Castro

  • Die hard

I miss Steve Stone in the days before he was censored

  • Dustin S

Vogelbach homer for Kane County, #12 and has his average up to .280.

  • Rcleven

    Ben Finfer ‏@BenFinfer 4m

    Rundown tonight: 8:00-@MDGonzales, 8:40-@BleacherNation, 9:00-@BrianHedger. #WhiteSox #Cubs #Blackhawks

I believe that is 670 AM.

  • Salesguy

    Sweeney just pulled, trade perhaps?

    • Rcleven

      Patrick Mooney ‏@CSNMooney 1m

Cubs evaluating Ryan Sweeney, who’s out of the game and feeling left rib soreness after making a catch at the wall.

    • nkniacc13

hurt making a catch I think

    • Carew

Rib injury according to Carrie Muskat

      • nkniacc13

If they DL him clears up a bit of OF roster jam

        • Rcleven

Roster jam was self inflicted. Cubs would bring up another outfielder. Think they(FO) have had it with Soriano and it’s time to move on. FO may think they can move him.

          • nkniacc13

yeah but until they can move him if possible you still have 5 OF with 2 on DL.

            • Rcleven

If they DL (said day to day) him the still need a center fielder.
Next option is Sappelt. No thanks
Offense is bad enough all ready.

  • Ry34

It is painful watching how horrible this offense is against a washed up has been pitcher Ilin Harang

  • Carew sucks

  • Barry

Josh Beckett out for the season. Cubs asking price for Garza and Feldman is going up.

    • Jason Powers

LA gets Feldman – 4th starter role – could get a 1 SP pitcher out of them.

Or maybe/AND CF Joc Pederson, since he’s not going to get much time in the LA OF. He’s put up the numbers most here should salivate over: like walks, steals, has pop, high BA. 21 years old at AA w/ 1000 minor ABs. Ready possibly in 2015.

Let’s see if LA can struggle only slightly worse than AZ, SF, so that someone has to come looking for a deal for Feldman or Garza.

      Will see.

  • http://Bleachernation Jay

11-0 Smokies in the 3rd inning. Rubi Silva just hit a grand slam. Alcantara is 2 for 3 with 2 2Bs…..

  • PeteG

I’m following Gamecast. Why is Shark still in? Sveum your pissing me off…

  • Timothy Scarbrough

Is it just me, or does the little picture they use for Aaron Harang on’s gameday look like a mugshot?

    • Rcleven

      This one?

  • PeteG

Kind of got that Aaron Hernandez look after he found out he’s guilty of murder 1.

  • Ry34

    Time to play bullpen roulette!

  • Ryan

Soriano needs to become a DH. It would lengthen his career so much.

    • Die hard

Astute– only 3 yrs late in observation … But astute

      • Ryan

I sort of forget and then it sears into my brain every time I see him DH.

  • http://Bleachernation Jay

    Still 11-0 Smokies in the 7th. Jokisch: 6.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB

  • HackAttack

Brett with a nice segment on The Score. Well done sir.

    • Brett

      Thanks, Hack.

  • AD

    Gregg Blows the save… great!

  • TonyP

Our Starters get screwed all the time……..

    • Rcleven

One cure for that is to go 9.
Starters have been great but they all need to be more economical with their pitch counts. 20 pitches in the first 22 in the second didn’t help.

      • TonyP

  • BT

I guess hanging breaking ball over the middle wasn’t the right pitch in that situation. whodathunkit.

  • RY34

Wow, cubs bullpen fucks it up again, so pathetic

  • Mark S

And here is to all the people complaining of bullpen management… they all suck….
