Pre-Gamin’: Cubs v. Mariners (3:10 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, etc.

safeco fieldToday’s rubber game in Seattle is soured a bit by the bummer Ryan Sweeney news. I’m guessing the Cubs won’t make that corresponding roster move in time for today’s game, and will instead just go with 24 for today, and figure out the best move during tomorrow’s off-day.

Edwin Jackson goes for the Cubs, and Alfonso Soriano is back in left field, thanks to the Sweeney injury (trickle down effect). I kind of which Dale Sveum would have just let Julio Borbon start in CF, so he could keep Brian Bogusevic in left field and Soriano DH’ing, where he’s been mashing. Is the upgrade from Borbon to Dioner Navarro at the plate really worth jacking up what was working so well for Soriano?

With a day off tomorrow and three more games in Oakland following, I don’t think it’s such a bad idea for Soriano to play today. Navarro has seemed to come up with big hits all year, hope this move pays off with a few more today.

Hairston still tethered to New Mexico weather balloon ?

Outstanding comment of the day. Thank you, sir.

There has been a real dropoff in proofreading quality in recent articles, Bert. :-P

Ricky Nolasco is struggling, 4.00era, below 100era+. To be honest I don’t think he’s that good. Garza is in a much higher class pitcher in my opinion. So should we root for Nolasco’s struggles to continue, because that would make garza more attractive? Or since Nolasco and garza are seen as the 2 top trade deadline rental pitchers one will set the bar in a trade for other. I certainly think garza is a much better pitcher but if the marlins get a bad return for Nolasco, does that lower the bar for a garza return?

I’m really hoping we get a top 40-50 prospect for Garza. I don’t want a fringe top 100 prospect that comes with a lot of holes in his game. and if we do end up get one of those fringe top 100 guys I expect another additional prospect in that range. Am I asking for top much? I really don’t want to get my hopes up but I really hope the cubs can get a top prospect (preferably pitcher) for garza.

Doesn’t sound like too much to me. Tougher question is how much more than that Garza might bring.

You think Toronto would pull trigger on a Aaron Sanchez Garza swap? Aaron sanchez is the range of player I’m hoping for in a garza trade

        1. X the Cubs fan

They would have to be 100% desperate.

In other news Jair Jurgens is available again.

Nate schierholtz and Feldman for Lucas giolito? I’d role the dice wit that high risk high reward trade. I doubt Washington would deal giolito for so little but I real I’d role the dice on the upside after that tommy john surgery. Huge upside wit this kid

With that name he should play Hockey

      1. DarthHater

Tsk tsk. Ethnic stereotyping rears its ugly head. :-P

    2. DarthHater

You left out the important part of the Jurrjens story. The Orioles DFA’d him to make room to bring Brian Roberts off the 60-day DL. Now maybe the Cubs can finally get that guy! ;-)

    1. Jeremy Bonderman could fit the city of Atlantis up his nostrils.

    2. Why did Bolshevik swing after 2 men had walked before him? Bad baseball.

“The perception of at least one rival evaluator is that the Diamondbacks are open to moving Skaggs, and that when Arizona gets a starting pitcher, Skaggs is likely the guy who will be at the center of that deal.” – Buster Olney on his Insider blog

I would love to get Skaggs in a deal for Garza. I’m not sure it would happen, though.

What is going on with Scott baker? Are we going to see him at all this year?

    1. Cyranojoe

Haven’t been reading the articles lately, have we? He’s expected back in August, probably toward the end of the month.

      1. Bric

So he’ll be back just in time for the Cubs’ late season pennant charge. Awesome. Total waste of money and conversation.

      2. Ed

I have been reading, I was looking for an update on this rehab.

just get rid of camp please

    1. wvcubsfan

Think it’s about time for a 15 day DL stint for tired arm

      1. DarthHater

How about a 60-day stint for tired fans.

  16. Rebuilding

Nice series win. Always tough to win on the West Coast no matter how bad the team is. The fact that Camp is still on the roster is baffling, but I guess we need warm bodies down there. It will be interesting to see whether they let Garza make that next start

    1. YourResidentJag

Well Jair Jurjens has been DFA. Once we trade Garza and Feldman, I wonder if he makes an appearance this yr in a Cubs uniform?
