Quantcast

bnpodcastimagesmallOh, yes. We went there.

Mere minutes after ESPN’s Keith Law broke the news of the Cubs’ big Scott Feldman (*and* Steve Clevenger!) trade today, Sahadev Sharma and I had him on the phone to be a guest on the latest episode of the BN Podcast (Episode 33, if you’re counting).

Ok, so it was just the most happy of coincidences, but, still. Can’t beat that timing.

In this week’s episode, Keith offers his thoughts on that Feldman/Clevenger/Arrieta/Strop trade, as well as the Cubs’ moves to pick up additional international signing pool money. Keith also gets into the Cubs’ draft approach, the state of the farm system, and the possible return in a Matt Garza deal. We also press him on a few specific prospects, including Pierce Johnson, Jeimer Candelario, and Arismendy Alcantara.

Keith also shares his (shocking) views on ‘Breaking Bad,’ and the unfortunately high water mark for television that was ‘The Wire.’

Sahadev and I also talk about the day’s moves and the implications of Keith’s thoughts after he departs. Inevitably, ‘Breaking Bad’ comes back up. Also, baseball.

You can listen to the podcast there below, or download it for later listening. You can also subscribe via iTunes. Here’s your iTunes link, and you can also find it by searching in the iTunes store. For those of you who use other feed-catching services, here’s the podcast feed. For those of you just tuning in who want to catch up on prior episodes, here’s the whole lot.

Enjoy:

Geez you are on a roll Ace. Parks interview yesterday and Keith Law is on the podcast today. Someone is becoming an “insider”.

  • Barroof

In….Side….her. Bevis and Butthead discuss todays baseball topics. Uh Cool.

    • mick6x

      Saheavis and Bretthead?

  • Keith

Looking forward to this episode…but it’s not up in iTunes. Latest episode in that link is 32.

    • Keith

And it’s good to go now.

      • Keith

And now I take THAT back. Ugh…anyone have a better alternative to iTunes for this? “Launch in iTunes” yields last week’s episode, and the podcast app is atrocious.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Should be there soon. Just takes a moment for Apple to pick it up.

      • Keith

Haha, thanks. Obviously, I’m eager to hear this week’s episode.

  • Rebuilding

It looks like there will be another Cuban pitcher to bid on soon. Odirisamer Despaigne defected while the national team was playing in Europe. 26 yo, was 7-2 with the Cuban national team…I don’t have much else right now

    • Rebuilding

The high water mark of the Wire? Well, the final episode of Season 3 was the best episode of television ever. Seasons 4-5 were very good, but that’s a lot to live up to

      • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Sorry – that should be read as the high water mark that WAS ‘The Wire.’

        • Rebuilding

That it was. I would encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it to download and prepare to take a week off of work

          • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Really requires commitment, but so, so, so pays off.

          • TWC

            And then watch it again.

      • Jeremy

Season 4 was the best season because it took you down to the lowest parts of “The Game”…The kids. Though Season 3′s episode 11 “Middle Ground”, is by far the best episode of the series.

  • BK

Anyone have the link to the Keith Law piece they talk about. On why he was wrong on a prospect.

    Thanks!! great podcast

    Game of Thrones.

My Scouting on SD LHP Robbie Erlin @ Boston:
    FB 89-91, CH 79-80, CB 76
Knows how to pitch. Faced down Boston hitters, just ran out of gas tonight.
Tommy Glavine w/o the wide strike zone assistance of the 90s.
Will not walk you. But can be worked for a walk. Control pitcher.
Pitches inside with FB – consistent, and well placed. Stays low well. Wild on purpose.
    Works fast when w/o trouble.
Lacks a FB that can get you out. Has some movement. Good hitters can react to fight off.

However, can use his Change to get people out – a plus pitch if he works on it more.
At 22, he has a top of 3 starter, that will put up 2 numbers if he get good defense and develops the change to perfection and a curve that keeps batter honest.
Worthy of trade. Young, dominated the minors (450 innings pitched), can eat innings and
would be a good 4th starter for the Cubs in 2014. IMHO.

Alcantara playing 2B tonight. Call up for Baez coming??

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Luke

He’s been splitting time between 2B and SS for some time now. I wouldn’t read anything particular into it.

But I wouldn’t rule out a Baez promotion my month’s end, either.

      • http://Bleachernation Jay

        Thx Luke

  • http://Bleachernation Jay

Christian Villanueva just went yard! Crushed it!!

  • http://Bleachernation Jay

    Rafael Lopez just hit a 2-run bomb! Smokies up 3-0 in the 5th. Hendricks pitching well > 4 IP, 0 R, 6 H

  • Jp3

Yeah and Kyle Hendricks is looking his normal self…

  • Rudy

Just saw that Dunston is in the Boise lineup today. So looks like he got promoted.

    • Rudy

Nvm misread that, thought for some reason he was with AZL, my bad.

I want to commend on getting Keith Law. Impressive, Brett.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

All credit to Sahadev on that one, but thank you.

  • YourResidentJag

Keith Law: I don’t about living in Arizona long term. They use water like they’re living next to a freshwater lake. :)

  • Next Year Come Faster

Brett are you a fan of Game of Thrones, because it seems like you also know good tv shows.

  • Ben (BG2383)

I was at the Smokies game tonight and they just won in the 13th. Alcantara plate discipline is great and Villanueva going yard was awesome. Hendricks looks decent but he was missing with his secondary stuff.
So excited about Jimenez and Torres!
