confused computerThe last 24 hours have been the most active in the Chicago Cubs’ world than I can remember since the Trade Deadline last year. Maybe the Winter Meetings before this season. But it sure doesn’t feel like it.

As a courtesy to any of you who may have missed anything – and would prefer not to – here’s a recap of everything that’s gone down …

  • YourResidentJag

Jimenez is 6’4 200 lbs at 16yrs old. That’s one big dude for his age.

  • ABK

I don’t know if this has been answered in another thread, but where would someone like Eloy Jimenez have ranked in this years draft?

    • Rcleven

Wouldn’t. He would still be hitting the books as a high school soph or jr.

  • Eric

Since he’s only 16, he wouldn’t even be ellegible. I’d say somewhere in the top 3 rounds. Now if he were 18 I’d say definite top 20 pick probably.

  • Dustin S

If the Eloy Jimenez signing is confirmed, getting the #1, #3, and #17 (plus Mejia) Int’l prospects today would be an pretty amazing achievement by the FO.

    • Rcleven

Very hard to project a 16 YO. There was no clear stand out talent. Just hope the Cubs can teach these kids how to play the game.
Seems building the Academy paid dividends.

  • Njriv

I can see Garza going to the Padres due to the FO connection, but other than Hedges, I really don’t see any near mlb ready pitching that can be be apart of the Cubs core. You would have to believe the Cubs are going to want near big league pitching back for Garza or at least a good quality lower-level players. I guess you can say Erlin in SD, but Red Sox have Webster and Texas has Perez and Buckel.

    • Njriv

Font is another guy Texas has that may intrigue the Cubs.

  • miggy80

Today was a good day. Better than yesterday, but not as good as tomorrow.

  • X the Cubs Fan

according to baseball Americas top 30 IFA list Cubs have the two best IFAs this season, plus #17 and a guy who would be on the list but his age issues kept him off.

  • The Dude

    that was so cub fml

    • The Dude

Wrong threat I’m spreading on the strike em or throw em or in the ninth fuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge

  • Serious Cubs Fan

Eloy Jimenez signs with the Cubs!! According to Jessie Sanchez of MLB.com took less money to sign with Cubs because of his love for Sammy Sosa!! I already like this kid!!

    • X the Cubs Fan

that has to be why he signed with the Cubs over more money. I love it maybe we have another Sammy Sosa on our hands.

      • Serious Cubs Fan

chill man. I appreciate good sarcasm but take it down a notch. No reason we can’t get excited about these signings, even though their only 16yrs old and essentially lotto tickets. Got to find the positive about this season. I think its nice a kid takes less money because he wants to follow a dream to play RF at Wrigley one day. I also think logically that hell the kids still getting around $2.5mil and he prob likes the Cubs beautiful state of the art Latin American facilities they just built too and he prob had a great relationship with Cubs staff

Brett, Erling is not ColUmbian, he is ColOmbian.
Great job yesterday with the trade coverage.

Oof. That’s not even one I can claim a typo on – I was just flat out wrong. Thanks.

      And thanks.

      • Stinky Pete

Actually, YOU would be Columbian, Brett.

Ha. In truth, it’s funny – we don’t have a term like Chicagoan or Ohioan or Clevelander or whatever.
