‘Murica.

It would have been a good game if the Cubs had amassed more than five base runners (and just two hits). As it was, Travis Wood pitched very well, and we got to see the two new relievers in action. Pedro Strop threw a scoreless frame, and Matt Guerrier technically did not allow an earned run despite giving up two hits and two walks.

Unfortunately, it took only one run for the A’s to win, and it scored in a very bummer-inducing fashion.

    “‘Murica”

    F**k yeah!

  • sect209row15

Never should of lost the first game.

  • damon berryhill

Should have let Wood hit for himself.

  • MadMax

I think the biggest d’oh was Castro not running hard the entire time and getting thrown out at the plate. Mark him up for another “brain fart”….

    • Die hard

Just woke up to find this post? You’re baiting me into slamming him again— not going to do it— he’s still young and needs more time… How’s that for the company line? … Now I need a drink

      • Drew7

A drink? Here I thought you were Andrew Volstead himself…

    • fortyonenorth

I watched that replay about a dozen times. The camera cuts to the wide shot and you can see Castro just after he breaks from second. He didn’t get a great jump on the hit, but he wasn’t “half jogging” like the Oakland announcer says. If anything, it was a bad send by Bell.

      • Pat

It was only, possibly, a bad send because he was not running that hard. It took a great throw to get him, but it still doesn’t get him if he is running full out. It did appear he had no idea a throw was coming, so you can probably spread the blame a little but most of it is on Castro.

        • fortyonenorth

What’s your definition of “not running that hard?” Castro made it home 7 seconds after Soriano made contact. That seems about right for a guy with his speed. I understand that it’s become fashionable to criticize Castro’s every move, I just don’t see it here.

          • OCCubFan

Castro’s stride was definitely odd halfway between 2nd and 3rd.

Also, he was nearly 2 strides past 3rd when Cespedes picked up the ball and he wasn’t that shallow. Ordinarily, that would mean he scores easily. It was a great throw and Castro appeared to be running hard, but the failure to score when he was well beyond 3rd when the fielder picked up the ball is puzzling.

            • baldtaxguy

              Outs happen.

We should also not lose sight that it was a great throw.

              • baldtaxguy

                Which you noted….:)

  • Crockett

Strop’s stuff certainly looks the part. Heavy, hard fastball. Wipeout slider when it’s down. Hopefully a tweak or two and his control finds itself.

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Guerrier looks like a younger version of Camp. He was throwing slop out there. Might as well DFA him and bring up Bowden.

    • X the Cubs fan

Christ can you give the damn guy more than one outing and comparatively speaking if he were pitching like Camp a

      • X the Cubs fan

*like Camp last year that’d be pretty good.

      • Carew

        Amen

      • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Dodgers DFA’d the guy this year. I think he’s done and so did they. I’m just saying I’d rather give his spot in the pen to a younger guy with a better arm in Bowden.

  • Frank

At least Travis Wood didn’t get hit for the loss.

  • louis

If Bogusevic is DL’d who do we bring up? Lake or Szczur possibly?

    • nkniacc13

may depend on how soon Dejesus is to returning

      • louis

        We could add Francoeur.

  • PeteG

Wow did I hate the Marshall trade. I meet Marshall multiple times and his ex wife. She was a (expletive) but Marshall was a phenomenal guy. But now I love the trade. Wood is our best pitcher. Love the guy plus he can hit. Can’t beat that….

  • Jp3

Vogs doesn’t need to be in KC much longer… That league is getting destroyed by him lately

    • Dustin S

I’ve been noticing that too with Vogelbach. The most impressive part of that is other teams have been doing the big pull shift defense against him, but he’s adjusted to it and is still doing well. He’s taking the ball opposite field more to beat it, and is still sneaking doubles through the shift to right.

      • TOOT

Will not happen in the BIG leauge.

  • Die hard

Depressing thought — lineup tonight will likely be opening day 2014

    • The Dude Abides

forget about next year depressing enough that it’s our lineup for the next three months. attendance should take a hit more than it already has for the balance of the year unless these guys start hitting the ball.

      • TOOT

        What!

      • Feeney

Hitting the ball? Like the 12 hits yesterday or the 13 the day before??

1st in the NL in doubles. 3rd in home runs. 5-4 in their last 9 games, all on the road. It’s not a good team by any means but lets not go overboard.

  • Believe in 2015

Great game and fireworks show tonight at Kane County. Got to see Maples pitch 3 solid innings and Vogelbach looked great. He made a real solid leaping catch on a hard hit line drive early in the game. Very athletic guy who looks like he could stick at first base. The Amaya homerun was off of a fastball and he really turned on it. Have a great fourth everyone!!!!

  • TOOT

*Time to dump Rizzo and Castro? They are not good.

    • Jed Jam Band

Yes, let’s dump two 23-year-old position players who have already shown tremendous talent.

    • Carew

      Smh

  • ripitrizzo82

Way off subject but if garzas beard gets any longer, he might start showing up to games in a horse and buggy

        • TOOT

          Good one. o.k. Garza. Happy?

          • Jp3

Terrible trolling efforts tonight, you could take some notes from a few around here on your efforts..

  • EvenBetterNewsV2.0

Atleast Guerrier is fitting in already.

  • DReese

Castro has walked in each of the last 2 games. That’s a streak
