Jeff Samardzija … got hit … hard. It was not particularly fun to watch. Henry Rodriguez, too. Just yuck, man.

july 10 box

Full box.

  • Funn Dave

Nice quote, Brett. The only good thing to come out of tonight’s game.

  • Cast

    Jeff Garlin was umm entertaining…..

  • Paul AssenmachWAR

Anyone else hope Jeff Garlin can’t get that mask off his face?

  • Oswego chris

Jeff Smardzija cost my fantasy team a point and a half tonight..

  • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Front runners in the Garza derby after tonight’s results are Rangers, Diamondbacks, and Indians in that order. Rangers also in desperate need of a RH bat according to article in Dallas papers.

    • Matt D

      based off of?

      • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Results and injuries disclosed tonight. Check out the Rangers DL and the results of the last few starts for Kennedy as well as Skaggs poor outing tonight against the Dodgers for the D- Backs.

    • YourResidentJag

So they’re giving up Perez, you say?

      • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Rangers have assets other than Perez which should interest Cubs like Font, Edwards, or Claudio.

        • YourResidentJag

Meh. If they’re desperate, then the Cubs need to get Perez back. If they’re as desparate as you say, that is.

      • SenorGato

Not for nothing, they should. Perez needs work. He’s on the extreme end of talented, but he needs to throw better strikes and command his breaking ball better. He’s getting by right now more on pure talent than polish, and that’s tough to gamble on for a team that can win a WS right now.

        • YourResidentJag

Oh absolutely. I’m not saying that the Cubs should acquire Perez above other options. I’m speaking more to the desperation @LouBrock is discussing over other teams’ lack of desperation? Every team has a certain amount of desperation in making the playoffs. We’ll have to see which ones are more desperate than the others.

          • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

I said the article in tha Dallas newspaper stated they were desperate for a RH BAT not Garza.

            • http://Bleachernation Lou Brock

Article mentioned that Rangers were looking at Rios from the White Sox but were hesitant to pick up that much in salary as Rios is due another 18 million total between this year and 2014.

              • YourResidentJag

That’s all good and well for them, I suppose.

            • YourResidentJag

Yet, you have the Rangers as frontrunners? How so?

      • Tobias

        Is Perez this years Delgado?

        • SenorGato

Garza has not vetoed a deal for him that we know of, no.

  • abe

For Pujos you should say. Every time the bear get you…

  • Rebuilding

The Giants are out of it now…but that Chad Guadin stuff is weird. He was arrested

    • YourResidentJag

Yeah, major creepy dude that Gaudin.

      • Jp3

Yeah that’s pretty creepy even if for an alcohol story…. Creepy CreepsterChad

        • Bric

If you google Chad Gaudin the first three pictures of him are still him in a Cubs uniform. Strange.

    • Njriv

Those are the amazing powers of alcohol for ya.

I watched Identity Thief (w/ da woman) because she stopped at Red Box. Not funny. Seems Jeff’s Identity was stolen for the night too. Not funny.

Then I read the messages on the game…wow.

Samardzija should be traded…Garza is better.
    Statistics are bunk.
Theo and ownership are not investing enough, right, et. al.
    22-24 years olds can’t win.
    We need a new philosophy.
    And our lineup juggling sucks.

Well, 20-27 year olds can win – not ALL of this team fit that age, but enough do, that mattered, to give hope:
    http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/MON/1994.shtml

…their problem too was ownership after a billion dollar white elephant stadium never turned into a friendly confine.
At LEAST we mostly agree Wrigley is still a great place to play.

    Patience. Just a little patience…yeah, yeah. (G N R)

  • sven-erik312

It was tbe Brett Jinx what got them last night when he said yesterday: “You can’t beat the Cubs…”
It’s our newest curse. (only kidding Brett)

  • Tim

    Bryant officially signed

    • Zach

      No shit, Sherlock!!!

      • http://Bleachernation Jay

Easy, dude! The guy may have just landed or been on a boat all day.

  • Kaz

The comments here are alot smarter than in espn.

  • bryan

I no shark is young and figuring it out but I sure hope the FO doesn’t think he’ll be our ace. I mean he is a quality 2/3 power arm, I just don’t think he is ace material. I love shark and know he is still baseball young, but I sure hope our FO has a plan to get a legitimate ace.

  • fromthemitten

BRENDAN FUCKIN HARRIS EVERYONE BRENDAN FUCKIN HARRIS

  • Die hard

As stated before-Shark is sushi against good teams… Ergo Cubs have no staff anchor to steady the ship without Ensign Garza– do they throw him overboard? As stated yesterday Oakland will need him when their ace is suspended after AllStar game and Garza is a north CA type of guy— Oakland can’t afford him but can’t afford not to take him– so here’s deal– Cubs eat salary in exchange for 3 good prospects and Garza keeps powder dry on long term contract… If they advance to WS on Garzas arm anything is possible thereafter

    • baldtaxguy

Was the August 2012 PED violation by Colon tied to the same Miami clinic? I can’t recall, but if so, could it be possible that Colon may not be served another suspension? I know MLB is considering suspension periods for not telling the truth, so maybe this may be moot for Colon if he lied.

If Colon is suspended, I believe you are right in expecting Oakland to look for starter options.

  • Mr. B. Patient

Not to rain on Brett’s parade, but the network news in Chicago is reporting that a deal between the Cubs and Tunney (aka rooftop lackey) has been reached. They’re reporting that it includes a reduction in size of the Jumbotron from 6000 sq ft to 4500 sq ft (25% smaller) a reduction in size of the right field ad, and NO fireworks after home runs.

I really hope this is what the Cubs wanted, because I hate the rooftops getting their way.

    • bbmoney

Really glad no fireworks. That’s minor league stuff

      • Mr. B. Patient

Agreed. A fireworks show on special occasions, fine. Fireworks after Home Runs…classless.

        • MichiganGoat

Agreed we need a waterslide to be winners, fireworks are for losers.

          • Die hard

            Troll alert

          • Timmy

            he’s goating again

    • Die hard

Good for Cubs as they only wanted 3000 ft one but negotiating rule 1– start high cause if you don’t ask you won’t get… Now what about those bullpens?

  • Die hard

Castro and Barney each about hitting their weight— should be paid by the pound then

    • Fishin Phil

Great idea! Unless of course they decide to exploit the payment system and balloon up until they look like the Reuschel Brothers.

  • Kent

I got to throw that 2 run homer by Pujols back onto the field, it was a rush

  • willis

I’m just glad that’s the last we’ll have to see from Pujols for a long time. Dude simply feasts on cubs pitching.

Shark threw last night. That’s what separates him from ever becoming an ace or even a strong 2. He gets rattled and throws. When he pitches and stays focused, dude is on point and an awesome asset to have in the rotation. But he’s still learning how to corral it all and put it all together. He’ll be a find #3 in a good rotation. But the ace talk that was being thrown around about a month ago needs to hault.

Bad game all around. Not fun to watch. And can they get rid of that Rodriguez dude? No wonder he was left on the scrap heap. Terrible.
