Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 1, Diamondbacks 3 – July 25, 2013

Carlos Villanueva looked like he was absolute meat in the first inning, and actually impressed by pulling it together enough to make it five innings and give up just three earned runs. Six hits and three walks, though, is not impressive. Neither was the Cubs’ offense.

    I thought it still was!

Junior Lake is slumping big time.

      I know, right… I mean 1 hit… WTF ;)

Hahaha…That’s it….blow it all up. Send him down and bring up the next audition. He’s fun to watch, isn’t he?

I like Lake batting lead off but wonder if he is better suited batting near the middle of the order. There’s some players that really stand out with runners in scoring position and Lake looks like he could be one of them. I player that loves being in the moment. Also, Ransom batting 4th. Really? I hope we aren’t selling everything next year. At some point you have to start trying to compete.

I am probably in the minority here, but I like Lake in the leadoff spot….he is very versatile (can bunt for a hit or drive the ball) and it puts pressure on a pitcher to pitch to the bottom of the lineup knowing that he is waiting in the 1 hole when the lineup turns over….just my 2 cents

Catch 22 really. He is fun at the top, and will maybe see more fastballs and get mre ABs that way. But, he is really the only guy with much pop in the lineup other than Rizzo now that Soriano is gone. Schierholtz and Navarro have a little pop, but not like Lake. I don’t know what I’d do. Probably with DeJesus back, hit him 2nd in front of Rizzo or 3rd and move Rizzo to cleanup?

I like Sweeney. Play him in LF when he returns and let him hit against righties and lefties.

  4. Can't think of a cool name

3 straight games with a walk for Castro, .313/.374/.482 in July.

    1. MichiganGoat

He’s quietly returning to the Castro we expect

      1. On The Farm

We should totally trade him now that he is recovering some of his value

I am all for some more trades and bring up the young guys and get their feet wet. Nothing to lose. Hopefully we see olt before the end of the season.
