BN Trade Deadline Blogathon: Hour 15

Chicago Cubs Rumors, Meta

lou piniella sleepingI am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 36 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.

I’m currently enjoying Jake Arrieta’s debut with the Cubs. He’s looking pretty good.

Total Posts So Far:

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

Things kept flying a bit: we got more word on the imminence of the Biogenesis suspensions and pondered the impact, and Bruce Levine reported that a James Russell trade almost happened last week.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

James Russell as a shopped piece, as opposed to a “listen” piece would be an interesting story line over the next several hours. He hadn’t given up a run since July 2 until earlier today, and his value, contractually, is so good. But the relief market has become more saturated in recent days, and a bunch of relievers have already been moved.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Moving Russell would be a surprise, but I’d like to think the return would make it understandable.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Mountain Dew. Diet Mountain Dew.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

No one has commented on my sleeping Lou Piniella picture (that I’ve noticed, anyway). Without looking, do you remember what the images were that preceded Sweet Lou in that position over the last two years?

Your Visual Update:

My state of mind may be as evident in the questionable number of Ls in “baseball” as it is in the video …
