A day after ESPN Chicago reported that Schierholtz is the “most likely” Cub to be moved next, Buster Olney says that the Cubs are getting “solid interest” on Schierholtz, and, because he’s one of the best bats on the market, he’s very likely to be traded. Olney adds that the Pirates are a perfect fit, and notes that they face a whole lot of righties on the Reds and Cardinals.

Couple this with Jayson Stark’s comment that the most likely Cubs to be moved are Kevin Gregg and Schierholtz, and, at least from the ESPN contingent, you’ve got a whole lot of Schierholtz smoke.

Schierholtz is 29, under cheap control through 2014, and has been very productive for the Cubs in right field. The reasons to trade him are largely the same as the reasons to keep him.
