Quantcast

lou piniella sleepingI am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 36 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.

A day. A whole day. When I did the first BN Blogathon, 24 hours is all I did. I’d be sliding into a cozy bed right now, having just covered the feverish pace of the final few hours. Ah. Warmth. Comfort. Sleep.

But I still have 12 hours to go, and we’re likely to not even see the heaviest action for a few hours yet.

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

An update on the Biogenesis suspensions (they’re likely to affect the Trade Deadline, even if they aren’t technically handed down today).

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

It was probably the two episodes of ‘True Blood’ I watched while I monitored, commented, and tweeted. Not a ton going on in those wee hours. Not a ton going on in ‘True Blood’ this season, either.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Looking forward to see what happens this morning.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Just water for now. I started to get awfully jittery in the last hour or so, and I needed to step back (even though I’m simultaneously tired). I think I’m going to take advantage of being up and at ‘em, and go get myself McDonald’s breakfast.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

The sun’ll come up, tomorrow. Bet’cher bottom dollar that tomorrow, there’ll be sun.

Geez, MLB Trade Rumors last posted at 1 AM…slackers…

Actually I think True Blood has been better this season than the last 2…

    Brett needs some of this:

I feel your pain, Brett. The trade deadline also happen to be the deadline for my take home comprehensive exams (is a graduate degree really worth this pain?). I think I’d rather write about the Cubs right now, though. I thought about keeping a cool tally blog like yours of my research writing antics, but alas, no one would read it…probably not even my wife ;) Thanks for the updates to keep me company through this!

  • Blue or die

First time posting, been here forever. Brett, I know you here it enough but, you put in the best Damn Cubs related work out here bar non. Hat tip. Great job as always!

      Thanks for that, BOD.

  • turn two

It was during one of these all night blog a thons a few years ago that this site first caught my attention. You should do these every night! Oh…wait…

  • Afinch

True Blood has been terrible for about 3 seasons now, yet I…just….can’t…stop…watching…must…turn…it…off… (oh look Anna Pacquin is naked)….

    • MichiganGoat

I stop once the made her a fairy or pixie or butterfly… I forget it was stupid and I no longer cared. Oh HBO you use to know how close a show but True Blood just became stupid, I still have hope wit GoT but they just might screw that up as well.

      • Jp3

Yeah the last season came to a thud with more marching… A different writer other than Martin is writing more books so we can have more seasons…. Yepeee, they’ll drag it out longer and it will be terrible. I still like Boardwalk Empire a lot.

        • Afinch

I love Boardwalk Empire. Just started getting into the Newsroom too, that’s been very good so far. And GoT has been pretty damn good too. Nearly got rid of HBO a few years ago, so glad I didn’t.

          • Jp3

Yeah GoT is awesome but like MG I believe it’s going to go ugly in about another season. Just a gut feeling though. Getting Dishnet today hopefully and can catch up on Dexter and see the new season of Boardwalk when it starts in about a month I guess

            • Afinch

Just started Dexter on NetFlix. About 1/3 through second season. It’s okay, but not that into it. Is it worth sticking with?

              • Jp3

Yeah…. Actually if you watch the second season completely and it doesn’t catch you by the finale I’d make it less of a priority. It tailed off this past season but still pretty good for a while. I’d say the Dexter
Season with John lithgow is pretty awesome. Maybe season 3 or 4?

                • On The Farm

That was season four. I thought season 5 was pretty weak (Julia Stiles), but I suppose it was pretty tough to deal with one of the main characters quitting for a network show. I thought last season with the girl from Chuck was a pretty good season.

                  • Afinch

John Lithgow? Julia Stiles? Holy crap I’ve got a lot of catching up to do!

                    • On The Farm

And Colin Hanks, I left him out. Its a pretty good show in my opinion. Maybe I am still holding on to the first sesaon which absolutley blew my mind.

                    • Jp3

Julia styles season was super weak…. Not a Julia styles fan at all…of anything…ever.

          • ncsujuri

Newsroom is pretty damn awesome, and Sloane Sabbath ain’t bad to look at….I like how it follows real world news…

            &

Love GoT but not sure I can watch anymore….was rooting for the King in the North and now I don’t have anyone to root for….le sigh

            • Afinch

              Love me some Sloane Sabbith.

    • Cubbie Blues

When I first read True Blood, I thought Ace wrote First Blood. Totally different.

exactly Afinch, between Sookie and Pam and Jessica & others, its always worth tuning in to see some gratuitous nudity…and blood & gore…at least Erik is back to being a bad ass…

  • D.G.Lang

Congrats on the first 24 hours.

Back when I was living in Bolingbrook, I worked 24 hour shifts every Friday for 7 weeks in a row and then had to spend another hour driving home. I have a very good idea what you are feeling about now.

At the time, I was a mainframe computer programmer/Analyst/Specialist/engineer and was more concerned with keeping alert than doing anything which demanded any physical exertion other than staying alert for the duration.

Being quite honest, just staying awake at this point was very hard.

  • Die hard

Posey on the block? Spence too? Either one would fetch Kennedy

    • Abe Froman

Posey wouldn’t be enough by himself. A MVP, young catcher for the odd man out of the Diamondbacks? Crick and Bonds and some of those kayaks would be included just to get started.

More to watch on deadline day: #Cubs appear more likely to trade Nate Schierholtz than Gregg or Russell.

    • Abe Froman

How do they not trade Gregg? I guess if the return is so meager the FO doesn’t want to project that they will settle? Gotta think he moves and its sounding like Schierholtz is going as well

      • ssckelley

Nobody wants Gregg, they should have traded him a month ago back when he had a little value.

        • Hansman1982

I’d say he didn’t have much value back then.
