BN Trade Deadline Blogathon: Hour 30

lou piniella sleepingI am currently blogging – here, on Facebook, and on Twitter (hash tag #BNBlogathon for those who want to jump into the fray themselves) – for 36 hours straight, until slightly past MLB’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, thanks to your generous donations to Make-A-Wish. I’ll be doing recaps on the process throughout the day, but you’ll also see normal posting (Bullets, Series Preview, Pre-Gamin’, EBS), as well as an uptick in rumor/trade posts.

Hey, we’re into the 30s, and I’m trying to choke down a friend-delivered lunch while writing/monitoring/etc.

News and Rumors Since the Last Recap:

Sounds like the Cubs will deal one of Nate Schierholtz or David DeJesus, there was a fresh Lukewarm Stove, and the very basic “non-waiver” question is answered.

Most Interesting Tidbit Since the Last Recap:

It’s the sudden uptick in reports from around baseball. It’s starting to fly a bit.

Current Thoughts About the Chicago Cubs’ Trade Deadline Strategy/Execution:

Without knowing what kind of offers are available, it’s hard to say whether I like the either/or approach to Schierholtz and DeJesus, and whether I prefer one being dealt or the other. Generally-speaking, you prefer not to have two assets competing with each other at the deadline, but the Cubs’ hand was forced by injuries.

Current Beverage/Stimulant of Choice:

Big ‘ole Coke/Coke Zero mix from Chipotle.

Strangest Thought Passing Through My Mind:

‘Party in the USA,’ endless loop in my head. No, I will not put my hands up. Stop asking me.

Well he’s talking to cats… yup the breakdown if official.

    1. Jim

Eh, to be fair I’m highly certain he did that before the blogathon.

  2. Jim

White rice, carnitas, pinto beans, corn salsa, cheese and sour cream?

  3. biggz

Dat sum Chipotle? Keep fighting the good fight, Brett. Just about 6 hours to go, right?

Seeing a cat that close to something that I might eat is enough to send me to the corner, vomiting. Which that cat would probably just lap up, which would make me vomit more, which the cat would continue to lap up, until I was just puking bile and stomach acid, which the cat would still continue to eat it burned a hole in its stomach and keeled over and died an awful, howling death, in which case I raise my arms, weakly, grunt “Success!” and finally have the peace and animal-free quite in which to finish my lunch.

Reds/Russell talk warming up, if not mentioned already (cursed work interfering with trade deadline watching).

Remember yesterday when @jonmorosi and I said that virtually all of the #Rangers were in play? List includes the newly acquired Matt Garza.

    1. On The Farm

      HA

    2. YourResidentJag

Wow. I wonder if they’ll get Chris Archer?

      1. On The Farm

That would cause the internet to explode

        1. YourResidentJag

Yeah, but then they could cry poor and trade Garza back to the Cubs….and the circle of life could start anew. Problem is this time they’d probably get a haul.

    3. Vulcan

      Oh… Well then.

      1. Vulcan

The Cubs should go after Garza. I hear he’s pretty good.

        1. Cyranojoe

Schierholtz and Gregg for Garza. Fair deal.

          1. ETS

then who do we get for garza?

            1. Cyranojoe

Oh, after we get him back? We can then package him with a few minor leaguers for a deal with the Marlins — Stanton or Price, take your pick. Ha ha….

              1. Cyranojoe

Derp, Marlins or Rays, I mean.
