Quantcast

wrigley field from right bleachersTravis Wood’s second half hasn’t gone quite as well as his first half, but, you know, sample sizes and all that. At least he’s still a beast with the bat.

On the other side is Hyun-Jin Ryu, the Korean pitcher on whom the Cubs bid, but lost out (by a fair bit) to the Dodgers. He has been quite good.

God do I hope Marmol gets into this game at some point.

    • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Oh, this is going to be good.

  • Vulcan

    Junior keeps on rollin’

    • BlameHendry

I love how he’s putting on a show right in front of Puig, yet the media is STILL slobbering all over Puig’s dick while Lake apparently doesn’t exist

      • Rebuilding

Puig has had a pretty damn good series, too: 4-7, 2 BBs and a HBP, HR and 2b. But I know what you mean

        • Rebuilding

And now they both have great catches

          • BlameHendry

well I didn’t say Puig wasn’t enjoying a good series too, it’s just he’s the only one that gets any attenion

            • Cubes

maybe Junior needs to add some cocky smirks in and a big fat gold chain and a litte fo hawk.

      • Vulcan

Me: Great game for Junior Lake. You’re going to show some of his highlights on Sportscenter tonight, right?

ESPN: Who is Junior Lake? Are you SURE you didn’t mean to say Yasiel Puig?

    • William

Keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, rollin’, what?!

  • willis

    Man, Blake Parker is good.

    • BlameHendry

that was nasty. Gotta lot of hope for this guy.

      • willis

I do as well. He seems very poised and in control, as well as confident in his stuff out there. I think he’s a 7th-8th inning guy going forward.

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

    Lake way>Puig

  • William

The Royals have a headline in Espn.com! It’s a miracle it’s not about Puig, the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, Patriots or Tim Tebow!

    • BlameHendry

      must be a glitch

  • BlameHendry

Puig’s 4th AB (against Parker) was funny and great to see. His reaction to the first called strike was a prime example of his pathetic attitude. To everyone else in baseball that was clearly a strike but this kid who’s only been in the bigs for a few months acts like he just got completely robbed. Reaction to the check swing call was even better. Sit the fuck down kid.

  • Rebuilding

Marmol is coming in…we’ve got a chance!

    • BlameHendry

Well, his velocity is back up. 96MPH. Wonder how they got that back out of him

  • http://Cubsdailyrecaps.blogspot.com Jason P

What the hell was that, Borbon?

    • BlameHendry

that just the kind of thing this team does this year…

  • Joey

If baseball IQ was a thing (is it?) this team would be severely lacking in it. Making the first out of the 9th inning down four at third base…yikes

    • Rebuilding

That’s one thing I’ll judge by the eye test and say it’s really low

  • willis

A double and a walk…and just one guy on 1st to show for it. It’s unbelievable some days how this team just knows how to lose.

  • Joey

Marmol: 96 mph fastball and 89 mph slider. He hasn’t thrown that hard in years. Still can’t find the plate though

  • willis

The Cubs weren’t going to win anyway, but that running decision by Borbon really burns me and should everyone. You just can’t do that in this situation. Especially with a shaky shit head on the mound like Marmol.

    • Cubes

that out changed the whole inning no way can you say weren’t going to win with marmol on the mound and only a 4 run lead

      • willis

Oh I know, I just rarely see the cubs rally like that. There’s always a chance with Marmol and you’re dead on, that base running error killed that inning completely.

  • Rebuilding

It’s a little disappointing if the Dodgers found something on tape that we missed to get Marmol’s velocity back up

    • Cubes

oh you mean testosterone from facing the team that gave you away?

      • TWC

No, it’s much easier to assume that it was a failure on the part of the Cubs’ Front Office.

        • Rebuilding

I said “if”, they wanted him for some reason and I’m assuming it wasnt to do what he was doing before, but you never fail with your shtick. I’m always waiting for your first positive contribution

          • TWC

I’m *positive* your caveat (“I said ‘if’”!) is unconvincing.

            How’s that?

            • Rebuilding

I don’t know? You can’t read. I think Bosio and Johnson have done a great job with our pitchers (I doubt Theo is breaking down Marmol’s tape – but that was your simplistic take). Obviously we think we can turn around Arrieta and Grimm so maybe other organizations think the same thing.

              • mudge

                are you kids fighting?

              • willis

He talks down to everyone. Just kind of how it is. Don’t sweat it.

      • Scotti

FWIW, testosterone doesn’t work that way–it’s adrenaline. Marmol’s testicles might pump out more testosterone if he’s feeling sexy thoughts about his former team though. I guess you could be right afterall…

    • BlameHendry

Or he just wasn’t willing to try for us because he was too busy blaming the fans for his decline. I feel like the biggest reason he started getting hit so hard was that he couldn’t overpower hitters anymore. Couple that with the walks and you have a trainwreck. Either way, even if he can throw 96MPH fastballs and 89MPH sliders, that doesn’t mean anything when they end up in the dirt or at the backstop

  • http://BleacherNation Mugsy

Why is Borbon still on this roster? Can somebody please explain.

    • Gabe Athouse

He’s cheap? Got me. I think he’s terrible too

    • cub2014

Borbon is a career .275 hitter in 800 AB.
So ya he sucks this year but he isnt alone.

    • CubsFaninMS

Yes, the borbonic plague has hit the Cubs this year.

  • Stu

I love to watch the game from other announcers point of view because they DO question some of the players on the present Cubs roster. Cody Ransom? Cole Gillespie?

    Keep the money machine cranking!!

    • BlameHendry

For a while Cody Ransom did surprise me a little bit. At one time we were getting decent production out of our third basemen, coming up with a good amount of combined homers and RBIs. They’ve both gone back to their normal selves, which isn’t a big surprise.

But Cole Gillespie? I put him in the same category as Bourbon. Our dream team FO is playing thrift-store baseball.

Speaking of opponent announcers though, I was listening to them too and they got it spot-on in the 9th, calling Bourbon’s mistake a bonehead play, which is exactly what it was.

      • Diamond Don

Now you know why no team wanted to trade for Cody Ransom or Borbon at the deadline.

  • Clark Addison

    Lake is a major leaguer.

    Bourbon isn’t.

    Iowa beckons.

    • BlameHendry

Lets not call Lake a full major leaguer quite yet. Beautiful swing and showing tons of potential but it’s still a small sample size. Regardless, I want him to remain the bigs, unlike Bourbon and several others.

      • mudge

Full Major Leaguer! Full Major Leaguer!

        • Internet Random

          Let’s call him a first-ballot hall-of-famer.

          • Hansman1982

Lets just ban everyone else from baseball for life since they’ll never be as good as lake.

  • Diamond Don

No excuse for Borbon. You don’t get thrown out at third down four runs in the ninth. This is something you learn in little league. What was he thinking? Or obviously he wasn’t thinking.

    • cub2014

I agree if you cant see the ball you dont go.
You have to know for sure before you go.

    • Cubes

cut-able offense imo for a fridge guy like him

    • Chris

Baserunners have ignored Coach at third all season.

  • Cubes

    fringe? even.

  • Rudy

Baez just got tossed for arguing a strike 3 call!
