milb logoRemember that competition last year where fans decided the best names in the minor leagues?

Well, it was awesome, and it’s back. Holy crap there are some beautiful names in minor league baseball.

The format is slightly different, featuring one-off, head-to-head matchups that you vote on, and there’s an overall leaderboard. I preferred the NCAA Tournament style bracket, but, hey, we’ll take what we can get.

You can see the competition here, and start picking out your favorite names. Among the Cubs in the competition: Matt Szczur, Bijan Rademacher, Taiwan Easterling, and 2013 draft pick Giuseppe Pappacio, who currently stands in 9th. Former Cub Felix Pie is in there, I guess in a second go-around. Rock Shoulders is absent from the list, which I assume is because he was last year’s winner.

Indians catching prospect Sicnarf Loopstok is currently in the lead, which, OK. I accept that. But if Diamondbacks pitching prospect Jose Jose doesn’t overtake Sicnarf by the end of this thing, I just don’t know what I will do with myself.

A couple others I really like: Michael Goodnight, Storm Throne (I think that’s a ‘Song of Fire and Ice’ book), and Delta Cleary, Jr. (because someone wanted that name to live on).

Any favorites out there?

I’m with you Brett. I can’t see how Jose Jose doesn’t win… Storm Throne is a good one though.

    • cubmig

Storm Throne? ……..mmmm? Sounds like a porn screen name. Is that name for real?

  • On The Farm

Kenneth Peoples-Walls, Damien Magnifico, Exicardo Cayones, and Mookie Betts were some of my favorties.

  • daveyrosello

I literally LOL’d when I read “Jose Jose.” That is freaking awesome.

    • cubmig

……..”Jose Jose” is also the artistic name of a Latino singer.

  • Joycedaddy

It’s Jose Jose or bust. That’s the best freaking name I’ve ever heard.

  • Cyranojoe

    What about Rougned Odor???

    • Steven

15th place is far too low for Rougned Odor. He needs to be higher!

      • DarthHater

        Yea, that doesn’t smell right.

  • Kevin

Sounds like a player in an Abbott and Costello skit.

  • Headscratchin

Speaking of Abbot and Costello – I saw a Facebook post going around the other day that has a picture of a baseball player standing on 1st base with the nw of Hu on his jersey. Awesome!

  • Headscratchin

  • Idaho Razorback

I grew up in a town where we had a real estate agent named Allan Allen. What were his parents thinking? As far as Jose Jose, that translates to Joe Joe. We all at one time knew somebody name Joe Joe, didn’t we?

    • Cizzle

Played golf with a kid growing up named William Williams.

    • On The Farm

I had a college class with two brothers both had the same last name (obviously), same first name (muhammad, again not that weird), and the same middle name. My professor had no clue how to distinguish one from the other for tests.

    • DarthHater

I have visited New York, New York.

          • Todd

Kind of pathetic day after day.

            • DarthHater

No, you know what’s really pathetic? Some snotty-nosed little pissant who feels to compelled to whine because somebody posted something meant to be funny under a story about “Moniker Madness.”

              • Todd

“Meant to be funny” was mis-understood by a majority vote. But we know you will keep trying, hour after hour after hour after hour.

                • DarthHater

Well, keep checking in whenever your not busy picking your nose.

  • Dusto

Can’t leave Quackenbush, Forrest Snow & Forrest Allday off this wacky list

  • DarthHater

I wonder if Sicnarf has a brother named Francis (and parents with a really strange sense of humor). Or maybe they were standing in front of a mirror when they filled out his birth certificate.

    • On The Farm

    • Cizzle

Missed it until your post, but that reminds me of Nomar.

  • N8theGr8

Storm Throne should definitely name his bat, “Mjölnir.”

  • Jonathan

Sicnarf is Francis backwards. Thanks for the inspiration, Harry.

  • Chase S.

Hey cool, I went to college with Storm Throne.

    Jose Jose for the win.
