wrigley field from right bleachersThe David DeJesus trade certainly cast this series, starting with tonight’s game, in a different light.

It also cast the lineup – which is missing Anthony Rizzo due to an illness – in a very different light. It’s … rough.

  • Curt

Is this a real major league lineup wow this is harsh.

  • cub2014

CodyRansom hitting .060 last 6 weeks.

  • Steve Ontiveros’ Mustache

Clearly this is an awful lineup that could in no way ever do something like put up 8 runs in 5 innings. Nope. No way that could happen. Nuh-uh. Clearly they are as bad as a high school team. Maybe even small town legion ball team.

    • Jason P

As if you didn’t think the same thing as everyone else when this lineup came out…

      • Steve Ontiveros’ Mustache

I didn’t peg them for 11 runs, that’s for sure. But I didn’t talk a bunch of nonsense about them being a AAA lineup.

        • Jason P

It kind of was an AAA lineup, though. Everyone save for Navarro and Schierholtz have either been in the minors recently or could easily be in the minors because of their production.

  • tbone

I’m starting to really want to see Navarro on the roster next year. And maybe Murphy as well….

    • ssckelley

Navarro has already solidified his spot on a roster next season, hopefully with the Cubs. If Murphy keeps hitting like this he might be worth keeping around as a utility player. This is why you play guys like this, they are evaluating for future bench/role positions.

  • Cory

Isn’t Navarro only here on a one year deal? In all likely hood he’s going to try to find a deal elsewhere with the opportunity to be the full time guy.

    • cubfanincardinalland

Was interviewed two weeks ago. Said the cubs were a great fit for him,he loved his teammates and the fans, and he wanted to stay with the cubs. 3 years at 9 mil should get it done if they have any money not going for interest payments left.

  • Jason P

If Miguel Cabrera’s slugging percentage dropped 60 points, it would still be 4 points higher than Starlin Castro’s OPS.

  • Soler Power

That HR was great because I finally get to make the following pun:
    Fernando is Abad pitcher.

  • mjhurdle

How in the world have the Cubs put up 10 runs without the veteran leadership and bat of the sure-fire HoFer DeJesus in the lineup?

  • rockin’ dawg

Donnie Murphy has been impersonating a stud the past couple weeks.

  • http://vdcinc.biz 70’scub

Cubs traded a guy that is in his mid thirties 6 HR, 30 rbi, 250 average! He is a step slow for center field not enough power bat for the corner spots. This is a good FO decision plus they clear money this year and 6.5 million next year. Cubs have plenty of young left handed 4th out field types as candidates for 2014. Time to play more kids and get a top 5 pick in next years draft.

  • Corey

Anyone know where I can watch Dejesus’s at bat?

    • Jason P

I doubt it gets posted online, but if you really want to watch it, CSN replays all games at like 2AM.

      • Corey

        That’s the problem, I don’t have csn :/

      • cubfanincardinalland

What was the fan reaction when he pinch hit?

        • college_of_coaches

Standing ovation. Furthermore, Navarro practically hugged DJ when he walked up to the batters box. The Nats announcers were impressed, at the end of the ovation one of them said “good job Chicago.”

  • http://Yes Dude

Trade makes a lot of sense. Nats won’t pick up his option, we can sign him if need be. I see no reason to win another game the rest of the year. Baez, Bryant, AA, Hendricks and Szczur have a shot at big club next year at some point. Patience, 2014 is a bust too.

    • cubfanincardinalland

The only thing that makes any sense for the nats is if they flip him to a contender before August 31. He just is not a 6.5 million dollar player next year.

  • Danny Ballgame

Baez 2 2B, Single, Walk tonight

    • Eternal Pessimist

      …and Silva, 3-3, 2B, 3B, and 2 BB, 0 SO.

  • kyle

any chance for the cubs to get Giancarlo Stanton?? What would the cubs have to give up for him?? This guy is a monster. He’s already got 108 homeruns in the major league and he had 97 homeruns in the minors. Only 23 years old.

    • Mr. B. Patient

      How much would he cost?

      Too much….

  • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

I saw someone post a comment a little earlier about the make a wish special on sportscenter that included a kid being signed by the diamondbacks. Great stuff and extremely touching. That and this tweet from Javy Baez made me think of the joy that Brett and the BN nation will be bringing two brave kids. Truely amazing.

Why is nobody giving Dale credit for filing out this genius of a lineup? I mean they put up 11 on Zimmerman who is a very good pitcher. But if he brings in a pitcher who gives up 3 runs he is a horrible manager. You can not win the race if you don’t have the horse.

  • willis

At least Castro had a good night…

He’s so ruined. But, the good news is others kicked ass tonight and Shark was money. Nice to see a win on a day like today.

  • Steve

Glad to see Rizzo out of the lineup again. Hopefully a couple of days watching from the bench will get him to wake up and start start swinging his bat with a little more effort than he’s been doing for past 3-weeks.

    • Jon

      I’m expecting a big game from him….like 0-4 with a walk.
