wrigley field from right bleachersStephen Strasburg makes a stop at Wrigley Field today, which considerably less hype than in the recent past. Still, I’m excited to see him in person for the first time.

I’ll be at today’s game in the right field bleachers (as close to the LED board as possible), with a blue BN shirt and blue/yellow shoes. If you see me, say hey.

So, Rizzo gets into the lineup after a big base running blunder last night. Would Castro be in the lineup if he made the same mistake? I don’t think so.

    • hansman1982

Have you been following the Cubs this year? If so, I am sure you can enumerate the times Castro has been benched.

    • 5RunHomerun

I doubt Castro would have been benched today if he had done that. Also, Rizzo hit 2 home runs yesterday. If Castro had hit two home runs in the game he was benched, I seriously doubt that Dale would have taken him out for his blunder.

    • Bails17

Forgeting the number of outs and generally having a lack of focus is a lot diferent than over rounding the bag in that situation. Rizzo’s mistake was most likely made because he was running hard the whole way. Happens.

    • StillCubsFan

      Clown comment bud

    • Kurt

I know that you don’t hold such things in high esteem, but knowing what you’re talking about is not a bad trait to foster.

  • Mike

    Yawn

    • Geo

You can’t compare a guy who barely makes mistakes to one who makes them all the time can you?

    • DarthHater

The intelligence of your comments is increasing. Good work.

  • Tim

Brett, I feel like its always raining when you’re going to the game

  • Cubbie Blues

Rays claimed DeJesus off of waivers!!! Now to wait and see if a deal gets done.

    • Jp3

What? From the nata? Boy that would be quick

    • DarthHater

So, if DeJesus cleared all the teams in the NL, that would seem to put an end to the notion that the Nats claimed him to block a competitor. Not that that ever made very much sense anyway.

      • MichiganGoat

Then the reasons they claimed him are even more strange.

        • DarthHater

          They just wanted Kim. :-P

          • annie

            Sexist.

            • DarthHater

              Insane stalking douchebag troll.

              • TWC

You forgot about all those totally relevant comments s/he makes.

                Oh.

              • On The Farm

So is it ironic, poetic justice, or just the way of the universe that the Darth Hater has a hater?

                • DarthHater

It’s the way of the Dark Side of the Force, baby.

                • C. Steadman

                  i find it creepy

              • Peter

Have to say you are the king troll here, fucking loser, you just spend your whole day on here

        • Cubbie Blues

We still have to see what the Nats decide to do. They can still revoke the waiver, trade or let the Rays have him. This is all messed up on the Nats end.

      • cubchymyst

I read that maybe the Nats saw a player that a competitive team might want, so they grab DeJesus so they can make a deal with a team lower on the wavier wire, and hope that they get something better back then they gave up to get him.

        • DarthHater

Well, they didn’t have to give up much to get him, so they wouldn’t have to get a lot to beat that.

          • Eternal Pessimist

Except the 2.5 million if they just would have needed to eat it.

    • Headscratchin

If the Rays claimed him the Nats must have pulled him back since he’s in the game??

      • DarthHater

I don’t think so. I think the Nats have until end of tomorrow to decide whether to pull him back from waivers. In the meantime, he’s still a Nat.

  • Funn Dave

Anybody see Demster’s xLIP comments? Funny shit.

  • On The Farm

Rendon at SS today? He looks like our future Baez, can play all three 2B, SS, 3B. Except Baez actually is a SS, where this is only Rendon’s 2nd (?) MLB start at short.

    • LWeb23

He was drafted as a 3B

      • LWeb23

I’m a little scatterbrain today. For some reason I thought in that last sentence you were saying he was naturally a 2B.

        • On The Farm

No problem, I guess I just really like Rendon because as you said he is a 3B, but he is playing 2B or SS as needed by his team because Desmond and Zimmerman aren’t going anywhere and Espinosa used to be in that group. Just makes me very hopeful that Alacantra, Baez, Bryant, and Castro will all have the same problem where one of them will be moving positions. Just a little dreamin’

    Mark Gonzales ‏@MDGonzales 2m
Cubs 2013 second round pick Rob Zastryzny on DL at Class-A Kane County. Zastryzny 1 ER in 9 2/3 innings (3 games)

    • willis

That sounds promising. He was throwing well between there and Boise too. Hopefully it’s just a case of a tired arm or something.

    • JeffR

Skulina too. Is this something that is normal if they are just being shut down for the year. They weren’t expected to throw a lot of innings anyways.

      • wvcubsfan

I would suspect it’s normal especially for college pitchers in the year they are drafted.

  • Jon

I went to bed immediately after the game, but did Svuem even call out the “golden child” for his baserunning blunder?

    • On The Farm

I don’t think so, but it might have been because he had just gotten done hitting 2 HRs in the game so yelling at him over a baserunning mistake just didn’t seem right.

    • http://www.viewfromthebleachers.com Norm

Was it Rizzo’s blunder? Rizzo said the 3rd base coach was waving him around before changing his mind…

    • Danny Ballgame

He was being waived home and, after he had rounded the bag hard, was held up. It wasn’t his fault

  • Reality Check

Wood is getting hit again; ERA at 4.29 in 2nd half prior to today’s game. he’s not a #3 starter; more like a 4. hope the cubs did not blow a chance to get “max” value for him in July……he’s really a pitcher with a 4 ERA….

BJax 2 for 5 last nite…….spring training should be interesting for him.

  • Abe Froman

Brett, I’m in downtown Columbus tonight, where should I eat?!!

    • DarthHater
    • Geno

Keep driving unless you like cornbread and grits.

      • Abe Froman

Thanks Darth, Geno I am here for a convention so definitely eating in Columbus.

        • MichiganGoat

I also think Geo is thinking of another Columbus not in Ohio, cornbread and grits are really a Midwest thing. If you’ve never been in Ohio you should find a place to have some spaghetti 5-way.

          • DarthHater

            Definite yes to 5-way spaghetti.

            • UCF

Agreed. Go find some 5 way.

          • CubsFaninMS

We have an entrée here in Mississippi called shrimp & grits. Doesn’t sound good… but trust me.. it is. I have my own recipe I can share. Sautéed shrimp w/ smoked gouda grits and caramelized onions.

        • MichiganGoat

Abe I went to the Spagetti Warehouse http://m.yelp.com/biz/spaghetti-warehouse-columbus I remember they has amazing lasagna but that was like 7 years ago.

          • Cubbie Forever

used to go to the Spaghetti Warehouse in Honolulu–economical as we had five kids and view of Pacific from about 4th floor nice.

            • MichiganGoat

Okay I must be confusing the place with something else because I thought the place I went was local to OH so I have no idea where that place was.

      • spearman

Hey now, we love our BBQ in the South. I’m assuming you’re talkin about Columbus, GA.

        • MichiganGoat

Well the Columbus that Abe would ask Brett about is OH but you are right about the BBQ, cornbread, and grits in the south.

  • On The Farm

Cubs are in jeopardy of losing 9 of their last 10. Yikes

    • Jon

      TOP 3 PICK!

  • William

Dejesus is now a Ray! I am sure he’s glad to be a contender after all. :-)

  • Peter

wow, did that curly haired dildo dago really just look at three straight called strikes?

    • DarthHater

Oh, look! Another visit from Peter Pissant. Aren’t we lucky?

      • Peter

Do you just stay on this website all day and comment? You really need to get a job, or some type of activity to use your mass amount of time for. Loser.

        • Richard Nose

Best question posted on the interwebs all day.

        • DarthHater

It just hurts so much to be put down by the king of the drive-by dickheads.

          • Peter

Dickheads? I know you see a lot of those giving all those BJ’s on city street corners, but that is not a viable profession, you need to really look for that job at Arby’s you were born for!

            • CubsFaninMS

              Peter:

I’m not thinking “Arby’s”, I’m thinking “corny”. As in your jokes. Legitimately discussing something you have a passion for throughout the day is more productive than doing a few drive by’s, being an asshat, and being completely useless in the process. Go be the jock, stud, mad scientist that you may think you are and be useful. How many mirror selfies have you taken for your Facebook page this month?

      • Annie

Put up a clip from your favorite dildo porn site. Now don’t go shy on me!

        • DarthHater

If you promise to take your meds, Annie, I’ll introduce you to Peter. You two are made for each other.

          • Peter

Now Darth, I know all that pent up frustration over not having a girlfriend, job, or real life makes you real aggressive on website forums like this one, but you need to stop jacking off and start looking for someone to bitch about things with, maybe you wont be such a loser if you do.

            • DarthHater

Note to self: People who post “curly haired dildo” remarks don’t like me.

I’m sure that will come in useful some day.

              • Peter

Or people that remark anything with words, letters, or pictures, nobody likes you, just another jobless blog forum troll

                • MichiganGoat

Peter let it go… this is just tiresome

                  • TWC

Peter’s just making a big deal out of his last day at BN. Why not go out with a bang, right?

                    • MichiganGoat

Yeah I guess there are many ways to take a bow.

              • TWC

My, the going gets rough ’round here when the boss is away. Peter’s racism would have been chopped out right quick.

  • Cubbie Forever

Marlon Byrd in serious running for Comeback Player of the year. First player to hit one homerun and then rebound with 2l and counting. Going from minor league contract to much better next year. Always enjoyed his play as a Cub.

  • Cubbie Forever

Will anybody ever understand the wheel deal of the Dejesus trade-release-whatever it is. And as of today it is still in motion. Peter Gammons-Buster Oney- somebody tell us what the heck occurred here. No amateur guessing please.

    • William

      I am lost, too, man!

      • Cubbie Forever

Where is Scottie? Maybe he can explain this Dejesus mess.

    • Blublud

I’ll explain the Dejesus trade. The Cubs put Dejesus on waivers, like they did to most of their players more then likely. They knew they would be buying him out in the offseason, so when the Nats claim him, they let him go. The Nats where not willing to part with much to get him, but if they could get the Cubs to let him go for cheap, and I am assuming the nominal cash the Cubs are getting is the cash they save by not having to buy him out, then they would take and try to flip him to a contender. The Cubs could have probably got a little more value from him if the Rays, or somebody in contention had originally claimed him and Nats probably knew this. So they claim him with the intentions of placing him back on waivers, knowing the Cubs would not reclaim him, flip him to the Rays, a team that actually requires his services for the post season, for a marginal at best prospect and gains something that they wouldn’t get if they didn’t make the move. If they aren’t able to work out a deal with the Rays, they can then just release him to the Rays, and they lost nothing but a couple of days worth of salary.

I hope this makes sense. This is just my theory, but its the only logical explanation I could come up with.

      • DarthHater

        Sounds plausible.

      • Cubbie Forever

Thanks. Question. Before tradeline we could not get anything at all besides salary relief. Same question about Schierholz. Are we just over-estimating these veterans?

  • willis

    Castro…oy.

    • Jon

I’ll be eagerly awaiting the top 10 prospect he nets us this offseason :()

      • Blublud

I don’t think I have ever called anyone this on this site before, but you are an idiot my friend.

        • MichiganGoat

Oh my the rain delay and the boss being away really awoke the snarky in people.

        • Jon

After we get done trading Castro for Synerguard this offseason we should then trade Barney for Miguel Sano. Barney has a gold glove and is cost controlled

          • DarthHater

Gotta throw in Donnie Murphy to get that done.

          • Blublud

It won’t happen because the Cubs wouldn’t do it.

Girlfriends and or wives–get your suitcase and go home to mom and dad.

    • DarthHater

and while you’re traveling, ladies, be sure to send Annie a postcard. It get’s lonely in secure detention.

    • TWC

Annie, do you have *any* intention of adding something worthwhile? Or are you just going to complain about Darth? ‘Cause if it’s only the latter, please go the frack away.

      • DarthHater

I would just like to note that, if you check the times on the posts, you will see that Annie’s last post was complaining about the Goat, not about me. Just sayin. :-P

        • TWC

Oh. Well. Then she should TOTALLY stay.

What kills me is that Ace has no problem with the .gifs, and has been known to post them himself. But Annie takes it upon herself to decide what is or what is not worth being posted. Adorable.

      • DarthHater

TWC, she already added inside information about drawings above the urinals in a boys’ restroom. Isn’t that worthwhile?

    • Kyle

Annie are you ok? Are you OK? Are you okay, Annie?

      • DarthHater

Come on, Kyle, we all know that you are really Annie. You’ve always been infatuated with me. :-P

        • Kyle

I’m openly infatuated with you. Why would I need a sock puppet?

But move over, I need room on my shelf of idolation for Donnie Murphy.

  • willis

    Holy shit dude!!!!

  • Soler Power

    Donnie Murphy.

    • DarthHater

Hey! When did the Cubs sign Dale Murphy? :-D

  • William

Yeah, booooooooooy! Donnie Murphy, baby! :-)

  • Kyle

Hahaha. After all that Ian Stewart drama, we just can’t stop randomly finding awesome third basemen.

  • jt

I was wondering why I was watching this game.
    Now I know.
    That is funny.
    dang Barney!
    that would have been priceless

  • Blublud

As I look through the box score, I realized that the only reason we are tied is because of the contributions of Navarro, Lake, Murphy, Bugosevic and Gillespie. I mean, who would have thought it.

  • willis

Wow, Castro is having a horrible day. Two caught stealings, an error and can’t hit a lick, whiffing through 91 mph stuff.

I should be used to it, but it’s just unbelievable and so sad what he has become.

  • CubsFaninMS

Am I the only one that thinks Donnie Murphy looks like a beardless Chuck Norris?

    • baldtaxguy

You may the only one ever in human history to even consider a beardless Chuck Norris. I believe he was born with a beard.

      • Jon

He recently shaved the beard (by cracky)

        • baldtaxguy

  • KidCubbie

Does anyone else have to suffer through the Nats broadcast team? These guys are such homers.

  • Cubbie Forever

Several years ago I spent about 3 hours in a lounge at the Horseshoe Casino–next table. Chuck is very small and very personable. One o’clock in morning and everybody drunk–but not one pick a fight. He was filming his t.v. show in Caddo Parrish area.

    • CubsFaninMS

Good to see another Louisianian in here. I graduated at Louisiana Tech in Ruston.

      • cubbie Forever

        Scob is a family member.

  • Soda Popinski

Castro is so lost right now. I’m starting to cringe watching his at bats. I’m done with his new approach. I hate to pile it on him while he’s down, but he needs to get back to being comfortable. Many big leagers have had success due to their hand-eye coordination being so good that they swing at everything. Adam Jones, Aramis Ramirez and Adam Jones come to mind. Castro’s stats look eerily similar to Michael Young’s first few years. Who would complain about having a young Michael Young on their team?

    • Soda Popinski

Sorry. *Vlad Guerrero, not Adam Jones again

      • Jon

VLad maintained a double digit walk rate in his prime years

        • Soda Popinski

Maybe Vlad wasn’t the best comparison, but if you look at Michael Young’s early years it’s really really close.

          • Steve

Great comment. During Michael Young’s first 2 years he was a part time player and didn’t hit too well. Then 8 out of the next twelve years he hit over.300!!!

  • Jon

0-11 for Castro and Rizzo today…”atta boys”

    • gocatsgo2003

At this point, I think the Cubs consider the “11” to be more important than the “0.”
