I guess Ricky Nolasco is better than Clayton Kershaw. Nolasco humbled the Cubs today, and they never had a shot.

Edwin Jackson threw a season high 124 pitches, and he wasn’t really bad, giving up just six hits and two walks in 6.2 innings. Two of those hits were homers, though, and he caused himself a problem with a throwing error.

Dale Sveum didn’t stick around to see the ending. Or the beginning. He was ejected arguing a check swing strike on the first batter Jackson faced.

On the bright side …

We must be among the top teams when being shut out….

  • Gutshot5820

Well… Rodon or Hoffman? We need an ace pitcher badly..

    • ssckelley

yeah, games like today make me crave an ace starting pitcher.

  • Jimmy James

So any chance at the number two pick lol……

  • Diamond Don

Still working on getting one of the top three picks in next year’s draft.

  • Eternal Pessimist

Jackson should have had 6 SO vs 1 BB…terrible call w/ Puig. His check swing went well past the plate and both umps blew it. Still, it’s just about impossible to strike out 14 times as a team and win a game.

    • DocPeterWimsey

Clearly, you have NOT been reading Puig’s press clippings. A demigod such as him could never strike out on a check swing! The LA Heresy squad is heading to your place now with a big stake and a lot of combustibles.

      • Eternal Pessimist

        …wearing my tin foil hat.

  • Jimmy James

Also only caught a little of the game, what did puig do to get pulled? Post game indicated it was managers decision

    • http://bleachernation.com someday…2015?

Slamming bats. Not hustling in the OF to fly balls. Flipped the ball into the stands in what I thought was a very disrespectful way. Just a poor attitude.

      • Jimmy James

      • Hansman1982

I thought Cubs players only acted like demigods.

  • Clark Addison

Is Puig the Cuban Milton Bradley?

    • willis

Except that Puig produces. Bradley was a crybaby psycho bitch. Puig will be a star. But damn does that dude have some kind of attitude.

      • mjhurdle

Regardless of the fact that he was a head case, Bradley is far ahead of Puig in the production department.
People tend to write him off because he was crazy, but Bradley had some very very good years, including in 2008 when he had a year arguably better than what Puig is having now.And Bradley had that facing pitchers with 8 years of data on him.
Puig is a star now, mostly due to his location and his amazing first month, but he is nowhere near Bradley yet.

        • X the Cubs Fan

          Your comment just got “liked”.

  • Gutshot5820

Brett, Cubs calling up Lim to the Cubs on Sunday. You heard it here first on BN.

    • MightyBear

      Any other Sunday call ups?

Don’t forget Puig is the guy that took a cheap swing at a guy in that brawl and amazingly never got suspended for it.

  • Jon

Kris Bryant with a 2 run homer ( what a bust , shoulda drafted Gray)

  • Aaron

Gray threw 5 shutout innings the other day and gave up only 2 hits with 8 strikeouts.

  • Timothy Scarbrough

The Cubs pulled into a tie with the White Sox for the third worst record in the MLB. The Sox are playing the Astros tonight.

    • Timothy Scarbrough

With Chris Sale pitching for them no less.

      • Jon

Would love to see if the Cubs could make a run here for the #2 pick

        • Eternal pessemist

The current #2 pick team has about 10 more losses. Think i’d rather settle for the third pick!

    • Mike

      We can do it!

    • hansman1982

Honestly, I did not think this was possible a month ago.

      • Jason

Dale is making moves that only Quade could compete with–now we could possibly run the table–forgot Houston will be a formidable foe this week.

  • Aaron

The Cubs are working hard on getting that #3 pick so go Sox!

  • Carew

If the cubs are gonna be one of the worst teams in the game, at least root for them to be better than the sox.

  • Aaron

Since both teams are so bad this season…the real winner will be the team with the higher draft pick.

    • Carew

I don’t worry too much about that though. The white sox are very poorly run.

  • Aaron

The White Sox currently have scored the second fewest amount of runs in baseball and there are only two teams that have a lower on-base percentage. Won’t win too many games if you don’t score runs.

      New Cubs Motto:

      “The Future Never Comes”

Doesn’t “Wait till Next Year.” do the same thing?

    • koyiehillsucks2

hahahaha every year the cubs are 2 years away from competing…

  • Ivy Walls

Cubs are going under the radar now. They are suddenly are 3 games behind Milw, only four up on Miami, Cubs are now embedded third from the bottom, 1 game worse than the Chi Sox, so they will have a protected FA and a top draft pick (hip hip ahey)

Next year better see a move to wins above 81….

  • Aaron

The celebrated Wrigley turns 100 years old during the 2014 season. The upgraded facilities, not the team on the actual field, will be the big draw for fans to keep on buying tickets throughout the regular season. Here’s to the 2015 season!!!

    • Smalls

I hear they’re going to serve mussels and frites like milwaukee, cause I always wanted to eat mussels cooked in hot dog water under a hotel while watching a team with a 60/102 record.

  • Aaron

With the 3rd highest ticket prices in the majors, those are going to be some expensive mussels cooked in hot dog water.

  • http://cubsdailyrecaps.blogspot.com Jason P

Candelario’s power is starting to come around. Just hit his 11th of the season and 8th since the all-star break.

Scott Baker has a no hitter through 4, but I guarantee the Cubs won’t let him go all 9. Team no-hitter in the Cubs organization 2 days in a row?

Diehard is the only fan that Tom Ricketts has not shaken hands. He did approach him in the bleachers one day but then walked quickly to the stadium club and never left til nightfall.

  • Sean T

On the bright side….We just moved into the 3rd draft pick slot!!!! Jacob Gatewood sounds pretty with that 3rd pick in the draft right!

    • Sean T

This is far to early to say probably but the comparisons between Giancarlo Stanton and Jacob Gatewood are striking at least if you compare when Giancarlo came out for the draft.

Massive power, smooth swing, and great bat speed with a big frame at 6’5″…. far to early to compare but I’d love to have him in our farm system

  • Corey

Looks like I’m watching the new season of The Amazing Race. Kim’s on it !

  • Danny B

14 k’s tonight….pretty alarming pattern. And yet the one game I get to watch this week, Wood out-pitches Kershaw. Gotta love baseball.

  • RY

rarely does this sorry team ever have a chance!
