I don’t understand how Jake Arrieta doesn’t get more swings and misses. Yeah, he gets his fair share, but you watch the stuff, and it’s ridiculous. I’ve said it before, but it’s easy to see why the Orioles were tantalized for so many years.

Arrieta was solid today, giving up only a solo home run, and the Cubs whooped the Phillies, taking the Ryno Series.

Arrieta does not throw a straight pitch every single thing he throws moves and cuts lets just hope he can find a way to control that movement or develop a pitch that isn’t constantly moving.

Does he throw a 2- or 4- seamer or both? His stuff is mouth-watering…and he’s showing me some signs of harnessing.

I wonder how closely Derek Johnson works with pitchers during the season/offseason. Do any of you know of his job scope?

I’ll start the obligatory “Baez is awesome” conversation on this thread. Number 37 today to go along with 111 batted in.

Meanwhile the consensus top prospect in baseball, Byron Buxton, has been slightly worse offensively with a higher BABIP at a lower level while playing a less premium defensive position.

Meh both players have a good chance of being excellent players, no one will care who’s ranked higher at this point 5 years from now

And no one will care that you pointed that out five years from now.

You can say that in regard to just about anything posted on this or any other sports site. Why bother even saying it?

Can we wrap Baez in extra-strong bubble wrap and only open in March 2014?

    • Jason P

Haha no, because I want to see him in the AZ fall league!

    • Ivy Walls

he needs a bit more seasoning, maybe a little AAA marinade and some movement of the present SS. On second thought I wouldn’t mind seeing Castro moved over to 2nd and let Alcantara develop a full year in AAA and then trade Castro over the winter of 2014.

      • Corey

Castro isn’t going anywhere, at all.

  • Werner

Well OK sure but then right after that.

Cubs just moved to 4th draft choice one game better than the White Sox and one game behind Milwaukee and Minnesota, two games better than San Diego, three better than San Fran and four better than Phila, NYM and Toronto…Seattle is 12th, half game behind Phila, Mets, Jays….

…with this bunch of ten teams within five games remaining this could get interesting. BTW Cubs are seven behind Miami, (whom they play this week) and 12 behind Houston.

One other thing, this is the first home series the Cubs have won since before the All Star Break…that is seven series ago when they beat Pitt and then played a make up game with the Chi Sox.

    • Adventurecizin’ Justin

It is going to be interesting. Personally, I want to see them get the highest pick possible…but under 100 losses. That’s my magic number! A small nugget of progress at the big level!

    Seems like yesterday.
