wrigley field from right bleachers

Being swept by the Marlins would not be a particularly bright and shining moment this season.

You know you’re sporting a powerful lineup when your three outfielders appear at the bottom of the order – with the corner outfielders taking the 7 and 8 spots.

But who cares about all of that? It’s the return of Koyie Hill!

  • Edwin

I hope Flynn rides a light cycle to the mound.

    • Edwin

Whatever, I’m still proud of my Tron joke. It may be weak, but I need a win today.

  • North Side Irish

    Patrick Mooney ‏@CSNMooney 1m
Cubs claim Daniel Bard off waivers from Red Sox and DFA Cole Gillespie.

    Need to update the lineup…

  • iowacubs

Line up my wrong since Cole was just DFA for Bard! Lol

    • iowacubs

      May be*

  • Fishin Phil

Prediction – Koyie Hill hits for cycle, my head explodes.

    • Koyie Hill Sucks

      I think I would spontaneously combust…

      • Edwin

Hmmm. If you say you’ll spontaneaously combust, and then you spontaneaously combust, did you really “spontaneaously” combust? Or would you have pre-meditatedly combust?

        • mjhurdle

          mind = blown

  • Bret Epic
    • MichiganGoat

Okay… now roster dance begin. I’m really indifferent with the move. Another low cost scratch off lottery ticket to see if we get lucky- worth the risk because there really isn’t much risk.

    Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs 3m
Updated #Cubs lineup vs. @Marlins 9/4: Castro SS, Barney 2B, Rizzo 1B, Navarro C, Murphy 3B, Lake LF, McDonald RF, Sweeney CF, Samardzija P

  • willis

Well, I think everyone knew this would happen. Let’s see what he has…

  • Koyie Hill Sucks

a LHP making his debut against the cubs, that’s always recipe for a shutout through 7.

Hopefully he is not a soft throwing lefty then it’s “no-hitter” watch….

  • kubphan82

You had me at Koyie…. lol

  • willis

Oh Shark…what has happened to you? He’s getting bombed by the Marlins. Funny how the “Shark is a #1!!!” chatter has gone into the basement. This team definitely needs another arm for the rotation.

Swept by the Marlins, how’s that taste?

    • mjhurdle

i still think that he has the ability to be a #1, but he is a 3 right now.
It has been mentioned by other posters on here, but it is becoming more and more obvious that, once he gets in trouble, he tries to simply fling the ball as hard as he can past the batter.
The change is rapid, and the results are often disastrous. if he could correct that, i think he could be a #1, if not, then #3 might be too generous.

      • willis

That’s exactly right and I have said he becomes a thrower instead of a pitcher, simply trying to overpower anyone in the batters box. Happens all the time. With that mentality, 3 is his ceiling, but a guy who gets bombed on by the likes of the Phillies and Marlins isn’t a 3.

      • mike

Certainly wish Gregg Maddux could have stayed with us and had an influence with Jeff. In meantime, I wish Jeff would visit H.O.F. Cub Fergie Jenkins in Phoenix this winter and work in bullpen. Fergie was very capable of strike outs but he also learned how to limit pitches and go 9 innings. Jeff is watching a career mis-fire.

    • Jason P

It tastes absolutely, positively disgusting. Even in a year like this we shouldn’t be getting swept by the Marlins.

Samardzija is what he is. An innings-eating #3 or #4 depending on he year, much in the Edwin Jackson mold. That is, Jackson before this year. This year, Jackson has been a fringe #5.

      • willis

Shark and EJax are very comparable. Both have great stuff, both seem to forget how to pitch more games than not, but when they put it together are just outstanding.

  • mjhurdle

Maybe the Cubs struggles this year are due to the fact that the players know that ‘OMG THE CUBS ARE BROKE!!!’.
Must be hard playing at a high level every day when you are wondering if your boss is going to be able to afford your next pay check…

    • http://Jplgxk AlwaysNextYear

Your a idiot. End of story

      • jon

        “You’re an idot”

        • willis

          How about “you’re an idiot”??

      • mjhurdle

        no, im a bean-bag.
        big difference

  • mjhurdle

wow, who did NOT know that Navarro’s snap throw to third would end up in the OF the moment he started throwing…

    • RY

the play of this team just gets more comical and pathetic!

  • jon

Another tepid performance from the mental midget today, I see….

  • willis

They only have to go 4-19 the rest of the way after today to reach 100 losses. Lord have mercy. Sveum and Co. trying to do something that I think has never been done in franchise history. C’mon Cubs you can do it!!

  • mjhurdle

    Donnie Baseball is back!!

    • jon

      • mjhurdle

in fairness, Babe Watkins would have hit 3 grand slams, and taken over for Shark when he was struggling, throwing the final six frames with 17 SOs and no hits.

  • mjhurdle

id like to think that somewhere there is a Marlins board full of die-hard Marlin fans that are just now going through the depressed posting cycle we did when Shark blew the lead…

  • North Side Irish

    Gordon Wittenmyer ‏@GDubCub 10m
20,696 at Wrigley today vs Marlins lowest since a game in ’02. #dollarsandsense

I thought the Cubs were guaranteed around 23K just from Season Ticket sales…does anyone know how many Season Ticket Holders there are?

    • jaslhill

      Just lots of no-shows.

      • North Side Irish

I believe that announced attendance is based on ticket sales, not on actual attendance. So the number of no-shows is probably even higher.

  • CM

Anyone know Castro’s line over the last month?

    • DarthHater
      • jon

Seems his hot streak correlates directly when Theo publicly threw his hands up and said “we are going to leave him alone”

        • CM

        • DarthHater

Pretty sure it also correlates with when Sveum yanked him out of the middle of a game for not paying attention. Perhaps that woke him up and/or lit a little belly fire in him. 😛

          • DarthHater

I also changed toilet paper brands about the time the hot streak started. I can tell you, I won’t be changing again unless Starlin goes into another slump. 😀

            • ssckelley

Yeah, I definitely think you should go with that.

            • Die hard

Darth — never figured you for using toilet paper– as long as you change ur underwear each time before wearing on ur head will be ok👻👻👻👻👻👻

              • DarthHater

You know, I’d be able to stop regularly shitting my underwear, if you’d just stop making your brilliant predictions.

        • Hansman1982

          Wasn’t that three days ago?

      • CM

        Thank you sir.

  • Die hard

I am the only one who predicted drafting of Bryant and Sandberg mgr this year and Castro to tank and Shark to implode and Marmol and Campana to come back after traded as examples– you must chew ex lax

    • DarthHater

As I have noted several times before, you did not predict that Sandberg would be manager by the end of the year, you predicted it by the end of the week when you made the prediction – which, of course, was a complete crock of crap.

And stating that you were the only one who predicted the drafting of Bryant would be a bald-faced, stinking lie, if not for the fact that you are too delusionally senile to be held morally culpable for what you say.

As for Shark, you said he was as big a head case as Zambrano. The world is still breathlessly awaiting the slightest shred of factual support for that morsel of mindlessness.

Marmol? Yep, I’m sure we’ll see him mowing down batters as a starter any day now. I’m also sure we’ll see monkeys fly outta my butt.

And Campana? You’re basing on argument on 46 plate appearances? Really? Somebody call the geriatric protective services unit.

    • bbmoney

Don’t forget the Borbon claim being the first part of the Garza trade……

    • MichiganGoat

So you hit a few out of the thousand of things you threw up on here, so if you are so proud of a few lets look at some of the wrong:
      1-Castro moving to CF
      2-Marmol to close
3-MLB, USA and Cuba in a giant payoff conspiracy

I’ll let the others add to the list

    • TWC

“I am the only one who predicted…”

a whole bunch of twattish nonsense.

    • MichiganGoat

      I like this one:

Anti-trust exemption illegal because allows MLB and players union to bargain away rights of amateurs who are not parties to the agreement “

      • Pat

Well, that one is right on. You know you can’t legally sign a contract in this country if it doesn’t take into consideration the feelings of people who aren’t party to the agreement in the first place.

    • MichiganGoat

This is also a gem of yours

Prediction— we will see Dunston before Bryant at Wrigley”

      • DarthHater

    • TWC

      Struck will stick!!!

(Or, Struck will suck so much ass in AAA that he got demoted to AA where he ended up giving up more BBs than Ks.)

      • Marsha

This sports site leads all media in vulgar language. Is this the way all Chicagoans converse because we sure don’t in Little Rock.

        • TWC

Bullshit. I’m mean, that’s just a total fucking lie. Have you ever fucking been on any other fucking website?

By the fucking way: “You agree, through your use of this service, that you are not offended by adult language.” That’s item number 1 on this website’s fucking Terms of Use.

        • chrisfchi

Obviously you have never heard of the media called “music” and the genre of “music” called rap.

          • Hansman1982

And have never visited a news article that allows comments. This site on its worst day ever is more civil than one of those sites, ever.

            • Marsha

I also read Chicago Cubs site with Miss Carrie Muskkat. Always appriate language and never any criticism of our coaches or owners. I know people up north are different but we would never talk badly about our teams.

              • jon

This isn’t a bible devotion site Martha so maybe you are in the wrong place

              • TWC

“Always appriate language and never any criticism of our coaches or owners.”

                Oh, man. Hahahaha.

That’s funny. If I realized you were just trolling at first I might have given you a high five.

              • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Pick one name and stick with it. Your switching and trolling is growing old. I’m not as patient as I once was. This is your only warning.

                • MichiganGoat

              • Herp A. Derp

Thank u!!! Owners and coaches MAKE THIS TEAM the only thing bringing us down are the boobirds.but when we win it all I will laugh when they eat crow.

Ur not a cubs fan it u criticize the ppl who run the cubs. U don’t see marlins fans criticizing Jeffry lorea do u???

          • Blublud

Hold up. Now this is some offensive bullshit. What the hell is this supposed to mean. I bet some of the stupid ass rock you listen to has just as much if not more vulgar language in it. In fact, I bet the non sense spewed in that music doesn’t compare to rap. This is as racist a comment in ever seen on this site.

            • willis

              Oh boy……..

I don’t think it was a racial comment. Hell the most offensive rapper out there is white. All music, like you said, talks about f’d up things. I don’t think he meant any harm in his comment, at least not intentionally.

Hell that Cyrus chick talks about doing molly in the club. All music sucks anymore. Rap too. But damn back in the day, 1988-early 1990s…rap was king and the best rap albums of all time were put out.

              • Blublud

Wow. Thats not a better statement. That’s worse the George Zimmerman, “I have black friends” statement that is used every time a white person is accused of being a racist.

Maybe racist was to far. I apologize. But I just don’t like how rap is characterized as a bad thing, when the majority of it is not, and when other genres are just as bad if not much worse.

              • chrisfchi

I can almost bet that somewhere in my storage my eazy-e str8 outta Compton cassette is still there. I was in my teens in the 90’s and all I listen to was rap. I just got older and my taste changed. Again sorry if I offended you. My comment was not ment to offend any fan of the music or race.

            • chrisfchi

Wow. Sorry you took it that way. Actually, I listen to country music, and was just using another known medium for comparison. Yes rock, pop, rap all have their fair share of vulgarity. Hell country does as well. I don’t see where the racist part comes in but w/e.

            • Cubbie Blues

I completely fail to see how that was a racist comment and those type of accusations should not be thrown around at the drop of a hat.

              • chrisfchi

I respect the man for having his opinion, were all entitled to ours. I guess ill just go back to not commenting on anything around here.

                • Blublud

I said racist was to far. I apologized for that. I don’t know you to call you racist. Sometimes I type without thinking. I explained above why it touch me wrong.

                  • chrisfchi

I appreciate it. I think both if us can agree, we should stick to cubs talk. Otherwise the trolls win

  • chrisfchi

Dolis solid for the rest of the year.
Garza on DL for the rest of the season.

    Two examples of epic failure
