Pre-Gamin’: Cubs v. Cardinals (7:15 CT) – Lineups, Broadcast Info, etc.

busch stadiumTravis Wood gets the start tonight as the Cubs begin their final series on the year in St. Louis. Apparently, he’s going to pitch just one inning so that he can get to 200 innings on the year, and then will be relieved. I’m sure Wood is happy to get to 200, and I understand that side of things … but I tend to find these forced achievement things to be a little silly. Either the dude got to 200 innings or he didn’t.

Game Info

Not sure why they’d pull Wood with the Cardinals’ magic number to clinch the division title at one. Don’t count on any favors from the Pirates’ front office.

    1. RWakild

Am confused. I thought we were trying to knock the cardinals out of first place. Why not play your best lineup and pitching?

      1. willis

Yeah the whole “wood gets one inning to get him to 200″ is ridiculous. And go figure, he went out and got lit up. Who didn’t see that coming? So stupid. When does this coaching staff get shown the door? Oh yeah, Monday.

Remember Dale Svuem said two weeks ago the Cubs weren’t looking to be spoilers.
I called that out as a “loser” mentality & I was told I was making something out of nothing

        1. mjhurdle

yes, you were making something out of nothing.

          1. jon

While getting the #4 pick is sweet, knocking the ShitBirds out of a division title and forcing them into a wildcard do or die would be nice too( especially if they lost)
But alas, Dale has thrown in the towel.

            1. mjhurdle

Besides the T Wood thing, i didn’t see a whole lot different about last night that would indicate Sale or the players had “thrown in the towel”.
And the 1 inning of Wood was a call made in the organization, not by Dale…

              1. mjhurdle

                derp Dale, not Sale

  2. Lou Brock

Why bother, it will not get him more money. Sounds like Bosio wants to put a feather in his cap. Smells fishy from here.

I’m having to watch the game on the Cardinals’ network. The pregame excitement by their guys in the booth and their conversations (Cardinals trying to clinch the division. Cardinals trying to clinch home field advantage against the Braves.) has me longing for that day for the Cubs. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later. I bet we’re at least in the conversation of a playoff berth in two years.

I like your hopeful thinking, but u serioisly need a reality check. #2017AtTheEarliest

      1. EvenBetterNewsV2.0

Why a reality check at 2 years? I could say the same for 4 years.

  4. Soda Popinski

Well… this is getting ugly quick. #4 pick?

    1. Soda Popinski

      …and that isn’t a hashtag.

    2. cms0101

The Twins are losing 5-0 in the second inning. They are doing their best to keep up this week. 5th pick isn’t so bad I guess…

  5. TWC

If letting Barney bat leadoff was the last straw, this “Let TWood pitch one inning so he reaches a meaningless personal milestone” is the nail in Dale’s coffin. What a stupid, stupid gimmick.

    1. willis

100% agree. It’s completely middle school style. And it’s telling your team “look, we aren’t going to try to win tonight, so just mail it in.” Terrible.

    2. mjhurdle

agreed, i just went from 70% sure that Sveum was gone Monday to 100% sure.

  6. Mike

Where’s Darth and his kiss-his-boots opinion tonight?

    1. #1lahairfan

      Darth is a stud.

    2. mjhurdle

I miss Darth too, but when you post about it, it just seems creepy.

  7. CubsFan4Life

Wood pitching 1 inning to reach 200 innings is really stupid. So he gets to 200 innings, but his ERA goes from 2.98 to 3.11 and he probably gets his 12th loss.

    1. #1lahairfan

It’s probably a big personal milestone for him.

      1. willis

It’s stupid. You let him pitch, or you sit him and put in a scrub. You don’t trot him out there to throw one inning just for grins. Good bye Dale.

  8. willis

Those goddamn pricks just tried to take Castro out…again.

  9. mjhurdle

Alright, still think Sveum is leaving monday. but….

after reading Muskat’s Twitter, apparently the Wood thing was not Dale’s call.

    Carrie Muskat ‏@CarrieMuskat 3h
    @DBra711 This isn’t Sveum’s call. It’s the organization

  10. mjhurdle

    Hitting Navarro?
someone needs to retaliate. What do we have to lose? put a couple high hard ones to Holliday to let the Cards know that you have no problem sending them to the playoffs minus one of their best hitters.

    1. willis

Well, they didn’t plant one in his face, and he went yard. Sigh.

  11. Mike

    Rondon! 98 mph

    1. willis

Holy crap I was just going to post this. He is throwing gas. If this is the shit this kid can bring to the table out of then pen, maybe he can be a part of it next season.

      1. #1lahairfan

        I know. Impressive.

  12. #23

If Sveum is gone, I really hope Ausmus is the next manager.

What a waste of a stupid game. We should have a rule on saving the overall effort of putting on a game if no one is going to try. I know there is that saying, “it’s why we play the game, anything can happen.” But I disagree we are talking about the fucking Cubs. They pull their starter in the first inning, after giving up 4 runs to the Cardinals with over 93 wins. Who are we kidding. That is a rule I would vote for. Save the electricity. Save the gas. Save the injuries. Save all of the stale late September hot dogs that will never get sold b/c all real fans have given up. But then again I could be wrong.

    1. TOOT

      You’re wrong.
