Chicago Cubs 2016 NL Central Championship Gear

noisemakerIn my lawyering days, I worked for a senior associate who never took a vacation. I mean ever. It was partly due to the legitimate difficulty in planning and executing time away from the office (cases don’t stop proceeding simply because you’re on a beach somewhere), and partly idiosyncrasy. I remember his excitement in planning his first vacation since joining the firm – a week-long trip to Europe in his 9th year – and I remember my own guilt at having to call him, in Rome, with a series of questions just a couple days after he left.

One thing he did successfully, though, was that every year, on his birthday, he took the day off. That was his off-day for the year. His annual rite spread among a handful of junior associates, who started doing the same thing. And although I was never able to pull it off, myself, I have taken the tradition with me in my new career here at Bleacher Nation.

Tomorrow is Christmas, which offers its own familial reasons for taking the day off. But it’s also the nominal birthday of Bleacher Nation, which I started shortly after a work-plagued Christmas five years ago. So, I’m taking my one day off. From now through tomorrow, you won’t see much in the way of content. Normal posting will resume on Thursday. In the interim, obviously you are all free to discuss any and all Cubs/MLB/Civil War History tidbits in the comments on this post if you’d like.

And yes, yes, if the Rakuten Golden Eagles decide to make their Masahiro Tanaka announcement as I sprinkle powdered sugar on my tree-shaped pancakes, I’ll find a moment to let you know. But outside of that, I’ll be enjoying the holiday.

This fifth year of BN has been a fantastic one for me, and for our community. The site continues to grow – we’ll be home to some 2 million page views this month, alone – and we’ve leveraged our community into doing something really great for young Cubs fans. The site has added Chicago Bears coverage under the able direction of Jay Rigdon, and continues to feature the best Cubs prospect writing out there from Luke Blaize. I’m very proud of what we’ve built, and I look forward to another great year.

To you and yours, a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Thanks for being a part of this place.

Keep Reading BN ...
