cubs park springNext Monday, I’ll be on my way to Mesa, Arizona to take in a week of Chicago Cubs Spring Training action, and to check out the new digs at Cubs Park. Hopefully I’ll get some solid shots of the new facilities, take in some good games, and see some prospects getting their work in on the minor league side.

If you’re going to be in the area from Monday, March 3 to Friday, March 7, feel free to drop a note here or on Twitter, and perhaps we can grab a beer or oggle some Javier Baez BP.

The games will have started by the time I arrive, so hopefully when I say that I’ll be seeing Anthony Rizzo and Starlin Castro do this, I mean in some games:

Oh, and hopefully they’ll carry that kind of solid contact forward into the regular season.

If there’s anything in particularly you’d like to see covered from Arizona – anything in particularly that someone without any kind of actual access can cover, that is – let me know in the comments. If there are some things several folks would like to see, I’ll make sure to do my best.

Please follow and report on Brett Jackson, Josh Vitters, and Matt Szczur.

    Brett:
Of topic, but are you driving and taking the family? I would love to have you guys over for coffee and eats but am loathe to post my phone number. I live off I 40. Have a safe trip!!

I hope you have a great trip and have fun. I was going to go to Mesa too.
I had my flights and Cubs home game tickets for March 2, 4, & 5.
Unfortunately, a sudden death in the family is taking me to North Carolina over that weekend, so I am having to eat the cost of the flights and those game tickets. I worked it out so that I will be traveling 3 weeks later, when my schedule will allow it.
If any one is interested in those game tickets for a discounted cost, please let me know. I would like to recover some of the cost.
I really wanted to see as many of the prospects as possible, maybe next year.

Never understood why the cubs don’t give a press pass to career bloggers like yourself Brett. I know if they did that then everyone would try and blog about the cubs to get a press pass but for the serious and talented Cubs blogs like BN should get a press pass, IMO

Anyone know what number bonifacio is wearing? Can’t find it anywhere

I had an awful dream last night about an impending roster crunch (it might have been a couple years from now). I had to make the cuts and couldn’t bring myself to do it. Soooo, I went out and got sloshed with my college roommates, submitted the subsequent cuts from my phone (while out) and read about it in the paper the next morning. I don’t know what to make of it, but I did make the cuts according to the degree of difficulty Harry Carey would have pronouncing the names on air…thoughts? ; )

You cut Alismendy Alcantara??? Jerk! :-)

      • ClevelandCubsFan

Yep. Hands down. Biggest immediate and long term impact for the Cubs.

      • farmerjon

You mean alismentary achalantura…yeah, he didn’t make it ; )

  • The Ghost of Brett Jackson

I’m repeating this but a first hand look at Olt would be nice. One of the biggest stories of ST for the Cubs, IMO.

  • Jon

The thing with Kolek, he’s not your typical high school kid in terms of physical development, he’s already 6’5 250. So he doesn’t have to grow in into his body. Already throws in the upper 90’s. I could def see the Cubs going after him.

    • Jon

He’s a big kid, but he isn’t fat, it’s not like he’s toned or ripping with muscles. You get him in a professional weight training program and who knows how hard he could throw.

    • Chad

Agreed, would have no problems with it if the cubs took him in the draft. I assume it will just take a little more time than Beede or Hoffman, but maybe not that much longer, I don’t know. A year, 2 years?

I am glad to notice Rizzo’s new batting stance. Had faith in Mr. Mueller. I tried to reach him through a couple of Tribune columnists but have no idea if my plea made it to BM’s mailbox. This is the best news so far this camp IMHO. Really like the signing of Bill Mueller and Eric Hinske.

Looks Like I will be making plans for a trip next week. Looking like the March 7th Game, I will be wearing my Red BN Shirt…
