gods-wrathThere’s probably not reason for concern just yet, but …

Starlin Castro left today’s Spring Training game early today after a steal attempt on which he apparently came up a bit lame (but, many in attendance didn’t notice, so it couldn’t have been that dramatic). The Cubs later announced that he was dealing with a “mild right hamstring strain.”

It’ll be a little while before we’ve got details, in terms of a prognosis, but it’s so early in Spring Training, and teams treat players so carefully at this time of year that there probably won’t be a crisis here.

Evidence? Castro dealt with nearly the exact same issue last year, missing some Spring games, and still started the season on time. Maybe this is just one of those early year things for him, and a little extra rest probably won’t hurt him. The Cubs are hoping for big things from Castro this year, so he’ll be given all the time he needs to be sure this doesn’t linger or get worse.

Obviously there’s always a risk with any injury, so we’ll keep an eye on this. I’m tentatively not too concerned at this point, though.
