kyle hendricks iowa cubsDespite a good spring and a great showing against the Dodgers yesterday, Cubs pitching prospect Kyle Hendricks has been cut from Major League camp, and will head to the minor league version, according to multiple reports.

The 24-year-old righty was the Cubs’ minor league pitcher of the year in 2013, and is slated to anchor the AAA Iowa rotation until there’s an opening in the big league rotation, or he shows that the Cubs simply have to give him a look midseason. Either way, it’s a pretty fair bet that Hendricks will pitch in the big leagues at some point this year.

The Spring roster now stands at 53.

Glad they didn’t rush him up and let him face AAA batters. It keeps them on par with what they are doing with hitters so makes sense

I have no problem with this move. I do hope that if someone gets injured or just isn’t performing well that he’s the first call up. Although Jokish really impressed me this spring, especially with his command. I still believe Kendrick’s guile and work ethic is going to carry him far at the next level.

I really like what KH brings to the table and would rather see him pitch against the Royals than Shark. But it’s 80 in Surprise right now and I get to see how Olt looks in person. It’s all good

Would cut Olt too and then if he and Hendricks do well AAA bring up both mid season

That’s not a bad plan. I’d like to see both get a full complement of starts/PA’s up to the break.
