cubs park shoesIt’s the first night game at Cubs Park, and the Cubs welcome the injury-ravaged Padres.¬†Carlos Villanueva will try to state his case for the rotation perhaps one last time.

No TV tonight, but the game is on WGN Radio if you’d care to listen.

Mike Olt takes a breather after playing in the last four games, including three of four at third base. Lot of regulars tonight, otherwise.

Justin Grimm is probably going to pitch in this one as he tries to lock down a bullpen spot. It depends on whether Chris Rusin gobbles up a roster spot by being in the rotation (and pushes Villanueva to the pen), but I’m not so sure Grimm is guaranteed to break camp with the big team just yet.

Lineup:

  2. Donnie Murphy, SS
  3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  4. Justin Ruggiano, LF
  5. Nate Schierholtz, RF

I noticed that. Renteria has a chance to look like a genius if he can patch together lineups and matchups that work. Good luck to him with that.

The Mariners released Scott Baker. Anyone think there’s a chance the Cubs might toss an offer his way? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/mariners-release-scott-baker.html#disqus_thread

Stick a fork in him, he’s done. We already wasted millions on him.

I figured as much. His spring numbers were unkind to say the least, but I wouldn’t necessarily mind signing him to a very inexpensive minor league contract and once Hammel, Villanueva and possibly Shark are gone, he can fill a spot. Just a thought, though I’m not sure I’d be on board either.
