wrigley field from right bleachersGoing to the Cubs’ home opener this Friday, April 4 against the Phillies? Wanna be in-real-life friends?

If you’re going to be around Wrigleyville for Opening Day, stop by the Captain Morgan Club at Wrigley (Sheffield and Addison corner, essentially) before the game. I’ll be there at least a couple hours before the game (hopefully with Myles and some other BN’ers), and it would be fun if we got a little group together.

If you can’t make it before the game, but you’re going to the game, stop by the right field bleachers – all the way in the corner, by the LED board and that party patio – and we can watch some baseball. Look for the blue BN shirt and bright yellow/blue shoes. What I lack in height, I make up for in verbosity.

If you aren’t able to stop by during the game, but you’re going to be up for a beer after the game, stop by, oh, let’s say Yak-Zies (a bar on Clark, north of Addison). If that changes on the fly, I’ll make sure to let folks know where I/we are headed. It’s a great deal of fun to meet you fine folks, so let’s do some of that.

If you’re going to stop by one or all of these places, don’t hesitate to drop it in the comments, which might help rally up something of a cohesive group.

See you folks on Friday.

  • Fakko

I will be there in my military uniform. Going to be one of the service members on the field before the game.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

That is awesome for several reasons.

    • Jim

If you’re around before/after, look me up. There’s a beer out there with your name on it.

    • Funn Dave

      Very cool. Good luck.

    • Fakko

Dont know where my seats are but will walk around looking for some BNers!

    • Voice of Reason

Fakko, that’s awesome that you get to do that.

      And, thanks for your service!!!!!

      • Fakko

You’re welcome, it is my pleasure.

  • Jim

In. You can meet ALL the guest posters.

  • CubFanBob

I may swing by depends how soon I get there after leaving work

  • Coldneck

    Don’t forget your snow gear.

  • Fishin Phil

Brett, if you still plan on going to the April 23rd game, make sure you do something like this post again for that one.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      I do, and I will.

      • MaxM1908

I plan to introduce you to my wife and daughter that day. The Wife will be interested in meeting the guy who runs the blog that distracts me so much.

      • DrReiCow

I will also be flying in for this game. We should arrive really early and hang out in the park, so we can all get our sweet jerseys!

    • Hee Seop Chode

They’re giving away a freaking jersey for the first 30,000 people entering that game! I’m pretty sure I’m going to take a 1/2 day

  • http://fullcount1544.blogspot.com FullCountTommy

Gonna try to grab a bleacher ticket but stubhub is kind of ridiculous on price, so may just stop in before or after to grab a beer and hang out

  • Satch

Just saw the lineup for today’s game. Geesh, its another platoon year at third base. Last year Valbuena ht .218 and that was only against righties. For Christsakes, give Olt a chance and if he stinks it up bring up Villenueva. I have seen enough of LV…gonna be a long season I’m afraid.

    • Jon

Last year lefties had a .844 OPS against Morton with a .425 OBP

      Righties… .552 OPS .264OBP

      • Jon

The Cubs should light this dude up tonight, in theory.

    • arta

      another platoon manager!

      • Jon

Happy is sending up 6 lefties against a dude that can’t get lefties out. Would you prefer he not play the odds? There is nothing wrong with platoons especially when your everyday lineup sucks.

        • DarthHater

Everyone please take note. Jon is making positive comments today. 😀

          • Jon

I had my prescription changed recently……

            • DarthHater

Just make sure you don’t go near a grapefruit, try to drive while sleeping, or get pregnant. 😛

              • JakeMac

And if you are positive for more than 4 hours, consult with a doctor.

        • Edwin

This could be the Cubs best chance at reaching a .500 record this season.

          • Darth Ivy

    • DarthHater

Olt’s coming off a shoulder issue that kept him from playing 3B for most of the spring. They’re going to go easy on him for a while. Also, Valbuena’s OBP, OPS, and wOBA, while not great, are all quite a bit better than his AVG (which, of course, is also the least meaningful of all those stats).

    • http://bleachernation.com woody

Valbuena is better than average against righties. Notice who is sitting? Sorry Darwin!

  • cm

Flying in from LA tomorrow for home opener. IO Improv bar on Clark pre game.

  • http://obstructedview.net Myles

    I will NOT be there.

Myles, on the hand, probably will be.

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

      Silly confusing multiple Myleses.

      • Myles P

There’s a mile pun here somewhere. I just can’t find it.

        • Joshua Edwards

I can see for Myles, and Myles, and Myles…

  • Darth Ivy

    No Homers allowed

  • NorthSideIrish

I assumed we’d all be going to Murphy’s…

    • Darth Ivy

      that’s a good one

    • DarthHater

      Probably not a good idea…

    • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

The bummer of all that rooftop strife is that Murphy’s, the bar, is actually a place I like quite a bit. I’m not going to take a stand on any boycott type stuff (I don’t think, as media (which, yeah, just a blogger, but pretty much full-on media at this point – just without the access), it’s my place to tell people not to patronize someone’s business), but it would be fairly tone deaf of me to say hey, let’s all go to Murphy’s.

      • DarthHater

I just re-read your description of what you did when working on the financial piece. I don’t think you get to claim lack of access any more.

        • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

Well, I suppose it’s fair to say that there are different kinds of access. I don’t have any traditional game, player, manager, or executive access (i.e., no credentials). I have some good relationships with some people, though, so that helps on a piece like that.

      • NorthSideIrish

I put down an unhealthy number of Murphy’s cheeseburgers when I lived over there in my 20s, but most of that came when Jim was still running the place and they didn’t have a rooftop yet.

Last five years we’ve gone to Merkle’s on Opening Day…close to the stadium, usually not too crowded, nice selection of beer, and a random statue of Colonel Sanders that drunk girls like to get their picture with.

  • Travis

Sadly, I won’t be making this game. Hopefully you have more hang-outs this year.

  • Jon

    US Cellular today

    Good grief…

    • Darth Ivy

at least Ventura moved Abreu up to 3rd. I don’t see Gillespie in the lineup, though

    • LEO L

they should let people in for free an hope they buy a beer

      • Joshua Edwards

    • mr. mac

That can’t be real, can it? It looks like 300 people.

    • Norm

That $68M free agent did wonders for their attendance.

  • http://bleachernation.com woody

    Gillespie has the flu.

    • Darth Ivy

I really hope Abreu stays in the 3 hole when Gillaspie (just checked the spelling) gets back. Is it obvious that he’s on all (3) my fantasy teams?

  • http://BN Sacko

Would really like to meet all you folks sometime in this situation. Great idea.

  • Hee Seop Chode

I’ll see you all at the CM club before the game!

  • Ballrock20

I can’t wait for the game, first ever opening day! I have a few questions for veteran season ticket holders…

    1. Is it true that bleacher season ticket holders get in fifteen minutes earlier? I was told this by the rep, but is there a certain gate that I would line-up?

    2. Can bleacher tickets get you access to the grandstand?

If anyone knows any of these answers, I would appreciate it.

    • Brocktoon

Half hour early I believe. There’s a VIP gate on Sheffield between Addison and Waveland where you can enter.

I’ve never entered directly through a grandstand entrance, so not sure about that, but I know I’ve been able to access it after leaving my bleacher seat through the Captain Morgan Club.

    • mr. mac

You cannot enter the bleachers through a grandstand entrance.

  • Ballrock20

Thanks for the quick response. Besides my tickets, do I have to show them anything else at the VIP gate?

    • Funn Dave

Be prepared for a full cavity search.

    • Brocktoon

      Just the ticket.

  • rlschroeder

I’ll swing by Cap’n Morgan’s and look you up Brett. Probably around noon.

  • Patrick W.

^ That’s kinda what I look like. I’ll be there. I’ll try to swing by CMC

    • DarthHater

And here I thought that was Zac Efron:

      • Patrick W.

A lot of people tell me I look like Zac Ephron

        ‘s fat uncle Larry

  • MaxM1908

Brett, are you not around for Saturday’s game? I have bachelor party weekend obligations on Friday, but we are all hitting Wrigley for Saturday’s game. Let me know if you’ll be around.

  • Kyle

I’ll be going Saturday. My son’s first trip to Wrigley, my first since 2002.

I will not be meeting anyone. If I wanted to interact with people IRL, I wouldn’t spend so much time on the internet.

    • TWC

      Larf. Have fun, man.

I broke a ~15 year no-Wrigley streak when I took my then-6 y.o. back in July ’12 for his first game. I enjoyed every minute of the 3.5 hour rain delay, too.

      • http://www.bleachernation.com Brett

        And you met me!

        • TWC

          In a bar.

While my wife and son stood on the curb across the street. Watching. In the rain.

I’m not real proud of that.

    • Patrick W.

I’ll be there Saturday and I will find you. I. Will. Find. You*

      *I will not find you.

  • Jason P

I’ll be there Friday! However, I will be sitting on the complete opposite side of the park (upper deck, behind home plate).

  • Ed

I’ll be in Section 108 in a Powder blue Santo jersey!

  • TimBeam

See you in a couple days, Brett. I’ll be there
