It’s still early in today’s series finale against the Pirates, but the Cubs lead 3-0, and there have been many opportunities for fun to be had. For those of you not on Twitter, I thought I’d share some of that fun …

Video of the Olt homer (look at that strength):

And, because I couldn’t help myself in the first inning, when Anthony Rizzo drove home a RISP …

  • mjhurdle

    just 5 outs….just need 5 outs….

    • Required

That’s what I said during the 03 NLCS.

      • KHRSS

No need to remind everyone of that, haha…

  • Jason P

Well good. We’re not the only team giving away outs by attempting to bunt.

  • Sandberg

Wow. I am soooo glad Renteria did not do that. But thanks, Clint!

  • andyb

I know its way early, but it seems to me RR is quick to pull Mike Olt. Let him play. He only hit a homerun earlier I suppose.

    • BlameHendry

yeah I don’t understand why he’s pulled Olt early in both games. The kid has to develop, sitting on the bench is not the way to do that.

      • itzscott

I’m getting the early impression that Valbuena is to Happy what Neifi Perez was to Dusty.

        • Kyle

Except more valuable and the PT is justified.

      • Dales Fired Ear

I was also curious about that but I’m thinking it might have something to do with his shoulder issues from the Spring. Maybe RR doesn’t want him to get hurt or over stress is trying to make a play, or maybe Valbuena’s arm is stronger (healthier?) right now so he’s brought in for his defense?

  • Kyle

    Lake with a quality TOOTBLAN

    • NorthSideIrish

But let’s give him credit, at least he didn’t spike himself.

  • Edwin

    Another TOOTBLAN.

Strop for closer!!!!!! End the controversy now!!!

    • TWC

A controversy only exists in the minds of the meatheads.

  • woody

    Whoopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Cubs win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kyle

Now we’ve got the crummy Phillies coming in with Wood/Samardzija pitching the first two games. Time to get over .500.

    • Jason P

Yeah, we have to win series like the one coming up if we don’t want to be buried by the beginning of May.

  • itzscott

    Vote For Pedro!

  • Picklenose

    nice finish

  • Rebuilding

During this series the Pirates really showed why 99% of the time a bunt is a bad idea

  • BlameHendry

No such thing as an easy win with this crew I guess…

Strop wasn’t exactly “lights-out” but he can definitely hold his own in a 9th inning 1-run save situation. I’d rather see Veras in the 8th and Strop in the 9th.

  • willis

Yes! A win. Suck it Veras.

          Keep running Lake!

  • MaxM1908

I know folks were down on the first two games, but if you think about it, the Cubs were just a few key clutch plays away from a road sweep of the Pirates. Given how good the Pirates project to be this year, I think there are a number of positives to take out of taking 1 for 3 and staying very close in the two losses. Here’s hoping the bad luck we saw in this series doesn’t follow the team back to Wrigley.

    • http://BN Sacko

Damn right. ST has been brilliant, BP will get sorted out, Boni is unbelievable. Castro will hit. AND Olt and Rizzo man we needed that!

  • Jamie Lannister

The game of closures is of most intrigue. Lord Veras better watch his back…one misstep and it could mean his head.

    • Brett

Holy crap, will you please post like that always?

      • Jamie Lannister

Aye, Maester Brett. Whatever is needed for the good of the realm.
