Quantcast

wrigley field from right bleachersRemember that time the Chi-Feds lost in humiliating fashion to the Packers at Weeghman Park? Good thing that has absolutely nothing to do with today’s game between the Cubs and Diamondbacks.

The Chicago Cubs will today go for their first series win of the year (coming into the series, there’s no way you wouldn’t have gladly taken a 3-1 win, right?), and they’ll face rookie Mike Bolsinger, who actually is a local Chicagoan. It’ll be a really nice moment for him, and one that the Cubs hopefully crush immediately. He’s making just his second big league start, and the Dodgers put it to him pretty good in his first.

For the Cubs, Edwin Jackson takes the mound, and you know the story with him: he needs to throw strikes early, and stay down in the zone. That’s the simplistic version, but it’s also pretty much true. The Diamondbacks are throwing him a serious bone with their lineup today, so hopefully Jackson takes advantage.

The Cubs’ lineup sure is interesting: with a righty on the mound, Mike Olt gets his third straight start. Luis Valbuena also gets the start … at second base.

    I officially hate E-JAX as a pitcher…terrible signing by THEO…and CO..
52 million for a below average pitcher…call IOWA bring someone up!

    • http://fullcount1544.blogspot.com FullCountTommy

YES hooray for RANDOM capitalization. It must BE fun to capitalize WORDS that have no BUSINESS being capitalized to get SOME kind of POINT across

  • newsguy23

Put Jackson in the BP. He will fill in nicely.

  • Pepitones wig

another hanging breaking ball for called strike 3. ugh

  • jason23

Who has come out for Edwin Jackson the last two innings? and Very nice pose by Olt on that hanging breaking ball with the bases loaded!

  • Pepitones wig

Olt just missed. Game of inches

  • jason23

wish he could have done that in his first at bat!

  • smackafilieyo

Gawd we suck….of course we make this guy look like another CY young.

  • cubmig

A lot of relatively soft pitches by Bolsinger ….and although one would think the Cubs should be teeing-off on that, it’s giving the Cub batters a hell-of-a-lot of trouble. shit.

  • http://BN Sacko

What f ing magic in taking pitches..swing the f ing bat

  • cubmig

I wish the Cubs had reliable, dependable hitters, not just batters posing as “hitters”.

  • cubmig

…………it’s getting late in the game………guess our guys are waiting to show they can pull the same kind 9th inning surge like yesterday’s DBacks. Mercy! I’m tingling all over just at the thought ! I can hardly wait!!!!

    …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………[snark]

  • Medicos

Everyday I check out MLB highlights and see other MLB hitters knock the hell out of some of the pitches they’re thrown. Cub hitters seem to bear little resemblance to what I see happening on other major league teams.

    • Jon

It’s all part of the “plan”

    • Max

This is too dumb not to comment on. There is a reason they are called ‘highlights’ … of course you are going to see hitters lay the wood during the 30 second recap.

Yes, the Cubs offense is anemic, but judging them against the SportsCenter Top 10 is idiotic.

  • ssckelley

Did anyone else find it odd that the Sarge could not sing “for the Cubbies”?

    • http://kempfintl.com pfk

He held the microphone out so we could hear the crowd say it. Harry used to do that too.

  • Edwin

    Edwin Jackson with a QS.

  • smackafilieyo

    LMAO @ VERAS…..this guy is a joke

  • itzscott

So let’s see… Does RR leave Veras in until the game is out of hand or does he notice that Veras still can’t find the plate and he better get him out of there while the game is still close??

    THAT is the question.

    • http://kempfintl.com pfk

Answered: Left him into let it get out of hand.

  • JL82

    Release this joker NOW!!!

  • Edwin

It’s a little funny with Veras. I mean, could he pitch any worse? Guy just can’t work a clean inning.

  • http://bleachernation.com woody

Happy pretty much just conceded the game when he put Veres in the game. WTF

    • jp3

And also put Barney in to pinch hit for Valbuena…

      • itzscott

Two runs down? Happy must’ve been thinking that’s an insurmountable lead with what he’s got to work with.

    • itzscott

I’ll leave it to you experts to teach me what would possess a manager to bring in a relief pitcher in a close game with only a couple innings to go that’s been nothing but “The Batter’s Best Friend” since becoming a Cub?

  • cubmig

I am being made to realize my masochism knows no bounds. This team is the shits. Thank you Theo&Co for all your hard work in fielding this most inept group of pretend ballplayers.

    • jp3

Come on over cubmig, the water is warm…😀

  • CubsFaninMS

Veras averaging two runs per inning

Someone cut the anchor on the Veras Ship, quick!

  • cubmig

Alright…………….now RR is bringing in the big guns!!!!……………………………………….[snark]

    • cubmig

      ……..ooppps!

  • http://BN Sacko

Hope we see a different RF tomorrow.

  • HislersHero

You know what I love most about the comments section here at BN?

The optimism. It just flows through your words. It is nothing at all like the ESPN boards or cubs.com

    /sarcasm

    • Jon

What should we be optimistic about ?

    • jp3

My apologies, I’ve been out of sorts the past week, I thought I could survive another year of no talent ball players but then I ran out of patience fuel really early this year… It’s not like I didn’t see it coming when the opening day roster was finalized…

  • cubmig

Rizzo……………….in an attempt to pacify 8+ innings of ineptitude. Serve me crow when 4 more runs are scored. Hell……make that even 3. I’m feeling no pride.

  • CubsFaninMS

I wonder if Tommy John knew he would end up being the most mentioned Major League pitcher in baseball history.

  • cubmig

The evil 9th has arrived. Question: For who will it be evil?

  • cubmig

Yep. It’s true. The devil is in the details…………and this Cubs team overflows in those “details” . “Oh death, where is thy sting?” …………..Oh Theo&Co WTF are you doing?
