wrigley field from right bleachersIt feels like it’s been a while since the Cubs just got flat-out whooped in a game. Their losses of late have all been of the coulda-woulda-shoulda variety, which only depresses me more.

Tonight, Edwin Jackson will look to hold down the many early-season-impressive bats in the White Sox’s lineup, while the Cubs will face Hector Noesi, who is trying to sub into the Sox’s beat up rotation. If the Cubs can be especially patient, they could have Noesi out of the game early, which could only help them today and the next two days, given how much the White Sox had to use their bullpen last night.

The White Sox’s lineup is a repeat of last night, while the Cubs change things up a bit, with Junior Lake getting a start in center field, and Chris Coghlan making his first start with the Cubs in left field.

This one is on the offense but these last 3 games the bullpen has taken turns fucking up.

  • Jon

I wonder if this bad outing for Strop counts or can we just “wipe” it from the slate when doing a bullpen analysis.

  • Bixler51

Nelson Cruz was available for the taking and our management someho thinks Schierholz and Lake are better corner options. (And before anyone screams at me about ruining the rebuild- he signed for one year and 7 million).

    • renegade4196

What rebuild? Our prospects all blow too.

      • willis

Haha, I wouldn’t go that far. But they are not doing so hot this year. That’s the danger of the all eggs in one basket approach. This losing will continue for awhile yet. Especially when they dump the pitchers for prospects. I wonder when the big supporters of the rebuild start getting restless? When this year ends in the worst record and next year is another near 100 loss team…is there still faith or do the pitch forks come out?

    • Jon

But but but..the 2nd round draft pick!

      • renegade4196

Yeah, so we can get another Corey Patterson.

  • renegade4196

Strop fucking sucks. Theo and Jed have got to go.

  • Darth Ivy

The Cubs now have a 1.2% chance of winning, after the Sox scored their 5th run. Too bad I didn’t start following this stat during a Cubs victory….or is it…?

    • Medicos

Does that mean the Cubs have a 98.8% chance of losing? There are only 3 players in the lineup that would have a chance of starting for a contending team: Rizzo, Castillo, and Castro.

      • wkranz

That’s good, cus those are the three most important guys in the lineup for our future.

  • ThatCubsGuy

At this point. Either RR let Olt play every day or they send him down. Something needs to give

    • Brocktoon

Olt came into today with a .162/.227/.353 with a .140/.191/.233 vs RHPs. Why on Earth would you want more of that?

  • willis

    Strop hurt. That’s nice.

The hits just keep on coming. But he looked nothing like himself tonight. Was all over the place and was maxing out at 94. Looks like we’ll get Veras back sooner than later. Hooray?

    • auggie

How was Strop injured? I was flipping back and forth between the Blackhawks and the Cubs?

      • http://BleacherNation blewett

He threw out his back trying to hold back a sneeze.

  • Bill

So, the bullpen is fixed even though it’s gotten lit up the last couple nights.

The major league team has the worst hitting OF in MLB and the team as a whole is terrible.

However, we have the prospects to look forward to because they are great. Oh wait, Baez is striking out more than Lake. None of the big prospects, outside of Bryant, is doing anything this year. Thanks, Theo/Jed. You’ve done a great job of giving us a crappy MLB product for now and likely for years to come. Who would have figured Jim Hendry would look a genius in comparison to the Boy Wonder?

  • Darth Ivy

The Cubs have a 1.7% chance here

  • mjhurdle

heh, the bitterness on the board is strong tonight.

    • Darth Ivy

      I was thinking the same

  • BlameHendry

What a shit show. Strop, Grimm, and Rondon, who were all starting to look dependable, have all shown their true colors lately, Rizzo and Castro have gone back to their 2013 forms, Olt has been a total bust, and we have the worst offense in the league. On top of that, all of prospects outside of Bryant have been average, worse, or injured this season. And the cherry on top is that the team has no money to spend. The state of this organization is deplorable.

I really need to find a way to force myself to stop paying attention to this team for a few months…

    • mjhurdle

“I really need to find a way to force myself to stop paying attention to this team for a few months…”

i concur, although i suggest go all out and find a way to force yourself to stay away for at least a couple years. That’ll really show them!

      • BlameHendry

It’s not about showing them. It’s about removing myself from the frustration of Cubs fandom.

        • mjhurdle

and i concurred. It is agreed that you should remove yourself from Cubs fandom.

          • Brocktoon

            LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!!!!!

    • cubbin

if what Rondon has been doing ‘lately’ are his ‘true colours’, then I’ll take them.

  • Medicos

Third period goals by Eric Haula, Mike Granluno, Steve Parisi, and Adolph Stankowski gave Minnesota a 4-1 victory. Ivan Bryzgalov’s 23 saves enabled the Wild to win their 1st game in the 2nd round playoffs.

  • Rebuilding

3 of the 4 teams drafting around us (Marlins, Twins and White Sox) have two things in common: they are all playing 500 baseball and they all brought in significant free agents. And I would arguably trade their core for ours if they asked today

    • mjhurdle

this post would only have credibility if it was more than 1 month into the season.
If the teams finish over 500 on the season, then it might be a valid point. But it is really early, and one of the teams you mentioned isn’t even at/above 500.

      • Rebuilding

The Twins will regress (and yes they are 15-16…my mistake), but the Marlins front of the rotation is ridiculous with Fernandez and Eovaldi. The Twins have Buxton and Sano (when he’s healthy) coming up and a lot more arms than we do from Meyer on down. The White Sox have Sale (whose arm might fall off) but they have replenished some talent through good trades and better scouting since Williams left. I’m just saying that there is more than 1 way to go about things and all of those teams are playing above expectations
