busch stadiumThe Cubs head to St. Louis tonight to start a four-game set with the Cardinals after just being swept by the Braves. That’s a tough draw, man.

Travis Wood will try to bounce back from an exceptionally rough start against the White Sox (probably his worst start since an ugly one last August against the Dodgers), and the Cubs’ bats will try to muster something against Tyler Lyons. He’s a 26-year-old lefty starter the Cards got in the 9th round back in 2010. He flew quickly up through the Cardinals’ system (because voodoo), and now he’s succeeding in the bigs.

The Cubs have lost seven of eight, and that stretch started against these Cardinals.

What is this alternate dimension going on tonight? Save a few hit for the next couple nights when I’ll be @Busch in the minority blue. Might even sport my BN shirt for good luck.

    My, my, my

  • willis

18 hits. Wow. Whoops, 19 hits. And Lake with the game of his life.

  • Cyranojoe

This is crazy. I hope they’re pouring it on with the goal of taxing the living hell out of the Cardinal’s bullpen. I fear the rage of the Redbirds the next couple games, if not the rest of the season…

    • itzscott

I don’t think they’re nearly as impressive as previous Cardinal teams

      • renegade4196

I think the baseball community as a whole under estimated the loss of Beltran. Add the regression from Craig and Carpenter, and the team isn’t nearly as good.

  • mudge

    I’m in fucking tears here.

  • Jason P

Brett, for your enhanced box score, you should just post it as is. No need to enhance this one.

    • Cyranojoe

      Hahaha truth!

  • itzscott

Olt has got to be licking his chops right about now

    Cubs tonight: 17 runs.
Cubs in 8 Samardzija starts this season: 15 runs.

    Timing.

    Just missed it

  • mudge

Damn, really wanted the skunk rule. Save a bullet for tomorrow, M.O.

Randy Choate’s ERA went from 2.38 to 6.75. In a lost, blow-out game. How glorious is that?

  • Jason P

And now we have a better run differential than the 20-16 Orioles. Good grief. Though, to be honest, tonight’s one of those games where run differential gets skewed a little bit. Choate had nothing, and he was left out there 5 runs longer than he otherwise would have been if it wasn’t a blowout.

But even before tonight, our run differential wasn’t that of a 12-24 team. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that’s reason to expect positive regression over the next couple weeks.

Ho Hum……….just another day at the old ball park…………….LOL!!!!!
    One down —two coming up.

    • Cubbie Blues

      It’s a 4 game series, just sayin’.

  • itzscott

This is kinda what happens when Olt & Lake don’t strike out as a rule, stop playing like they’re green behind the ears and settle in with confidence.
