Today was a quintessential “you can’t scout the stat line” kind of day, with Edwin Jackson’s final line looking a little meh after two inherited runners scored off of two different Cubs relievers. His stuff was actually fantastic, although he could have been more efficient – he was pushing 100 pitches when he was pulled with one out in the sixth. All in all, it was a very good outing from Jackson.
Of course, if he’d given up even one run – or the many that the bullpen and defense did subsequently – it was all going to be academic, since the Cubs were shut out for the second straight day.
