Enhanced Box Score: Marlins 4, Cubs 3 – June 8, 2014

Enhanced Box Scores

All good things must end (or some variation of valar morghulis, if you prefer).

So it was today for the Cubs and their erstwhile five-game winning streak. It stings a bit, not just because of the loss, but because the Cubs twice blew leads in this one.

Each starting pitcher today was nails, with Jake Arrieta looking mighty impressive in his six innings of work. The Cubs couldn’t do diddly off of Henderson Alvarez, but they scored two immediately after he left with an injury in the 6th. Brian Schlitter gave those two back (with some more BABIP help to the Marlins, who notched three hits in the inning, two of which were weakly struck) the very next half inning. The Cubs scored once the next half inning (could have had more that inning, and the previous inning, actually), but Pedro Strop gave the Marlins two the next half inning, and there was your final score.

I can’t hate on the bullpen too much, as they’ve been so very good for a very long stretch. This kind of stuff happens. It’s baseball.
