This kind of game could have happened at any time, because it’s baseball, man. But, since it comes the day after the Cubs traded away Jason Hammel and Jeff Samardzija – confirming that they were done this year – and after the Cubs were on a nice four-game ride (month and a half, really), it’s going to be magnified.

I’m sure there was a bit of an energy let-down, but I’m also sure that each player out there was giving it his all today. And a crummy loss happened. It happens to teams that have all the right “stories” going for them, too.

Just remember: the losses were always going to come, and we all knew the trades were coming, too.

And at least the Cubs’ frustrating run differential just took a hit.
