dallas beeler cubs featureThe Chicago Cubs are swapping out AAA starting pitchers on the roster today, sending Dallas Beeler back to Iowa after last night’s start, and calling up Kyle Hendricks for today’s┬ástart. (Carrie Muskat)

Don’t read too much into things here – with the All-Star break coming, Beeler wouldn’t have been scheduled for another start until after the break anyway. And given how taxed the bullpen has been, might as well keep an extra (actually, extra extra, since the Cubs are at nine relievers) bullpen arm up for the next four days. This isn’t explicitly a matter of Beeler having a so-so outing last night, and then getting the boot. He will, presumably, still be in the mix for a rotation spot coming out of the break, depending on how things shake out.

More on Hendricks, who makes his big league debut at 11:35am CT, later today.
