tennessee smokiesAnthony Giansanti is closing in on a very rare accomplishment. While with the Tennessee Smokies this year, Giansanti has appeared at:

  • First base: Four games
  • Second base: Seventeen games
  • Third base: Thirteen games
  • Shortstop: Two games
  • Left field: Thirty seven games
  • Right field: Ten games
  • DH: Four games
  • Pitcher: Two games (with a K/9 of 13.5 and an ERA of 22.50, if you’re wondering)

A trip to center field and a day behind the plate, and Giansanti will have played all nine positions at Double A this season. During his career he has actually played both of those positions. He has forty eight career games in center, and appeared behind the plate twice for Peoria in 2012.

Other News

  • With yesterday’s loss the Smokies slid into a tie with Chattanooga atop the division. They conclude their season with five games in Chattanooga starting Thursday. Effectively, the Smokies are now playing a best of five series to decide the second half division winner. Tennessee has not yet announced their starters for the series.
  • If I’m counting right, Kyle Schwarber has now hit safely in fourteen straight games going back to August 14. In that span he has seven homers, four walks, and just eleven strikeouts. He has also reached base in every game going back to August 10.
  • Despite the loss, Boise remains two games ahead of Salem-Keizer in the all important overall standings.
  • The Boise Hawks are holding an online jersey auction to support the Jayden DeLuca Foundation. Bids start at $75. While the bigger names to pass through Boise earlier this season are not available, collectors or speculative investors may still be interested. A Boise Hawks jersey would be a quality addition to any collection, and should one of these guys make the Hall of Fame one day it could turn into quite the rare asset. That isn’t likely, of course, but fortunately contributing to a good cause is still a nice outcome.
