In the first of what should probably be a mile-long line of post-season awards, Kris Bryant has been named the Minor League Player of the Year, according to USA Today.
Well all know about Bryant’s ridiculous MiLB season this year, but the USA Today piece is a great read for quite a bit more on Bryant, including his and his father’s thoughts on hitting. They reference Ted Williams’ use of a slightly upward trajectory on his swing to create loft and distance (rather than swinging down to try and create backspin). There’s also stuff in there on Bryant’s history, future potential, etc. Fun read to start your day.
Bryant won the award going away, with Joey Gallo being the only other finalist to receive any votes. Bryant beat out Gallo this week for the minor league home run king mantle in 2014, 43 to 42.
