Although there was no large video board to replay any of it, the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals tonight behind another stellar outing from Jake Arrieta. When that happens next year, it’ll look a little different.

The win gives the Cubs a winning record at home this year – 41-40 – and nearly evens the final season series between the two teams (9 for the Cubs, 10 for the Cardinals). That’s a pretty great way to close out the 2014 home slate, even in a year that’ll still see the Cubs finish in last place.

Jake Arrieta’s performance, by the way, was emblematic of his entire breakout season. Overpowering. Mellifluous. Incredible. Great year, Jake.
