One of the big names in free agency, as of this week, is 23-year-old Cuban slugger Yasmany Tomas. Here’s the latest on the outfielder.

Noted there at the end is the principal question: are the Chicago Cubs actually going to be in on Tomas?

Well, our first solid report on that subject says nah:

Sharma is usually pretty spot-on with these things, so I’ll presume for now that the Cubs aren’t in on Tomas.

That said, following his story remains fairly important for the offseason: (1) wherever Tomas goes (or doesn’t) could create other opportunities in the outfield market, where the Cubs may dabble; and (2) if Tomas gets a huge sum, that could take the signing team out of the market for a second gigantic contract this offseason, again, where the Cubs may dabble.
